This is an absolutely brilliant vid! I've got NZ maps on Viewranger and was able to follow the route station by station; a real treat! I see from Tim's list that he covers this route in full (i.e. unedited) in two separate vids. I'm off to watch them now!
+Jim Cook Hi Jim, I am glad you enjoyed the edited version and hope the full version comes up to expectation. Its an awesome ride and wonderful way to start and end the day for the lucky commuters who use it daily.
Thanks for sharing beautiful vid, Its great New Zealand.i am from India and cant afford to see the New Zealand,But this is better way to visit by RUclips. Relay fantastic.
+HARBHAJAN SINGH Hi, I am pleased you enjoyed the video. New Zealand is a beautiful place and I am lucky to have visited some wonderful parts of the world, but one of my favorite places is India, the Taj Mahal Palace is awesome, as is a ride on the little train to Shimla. I look forward to visiting again one day.
I was on the tunnel lowering project and can see the many ground anchors that had to go in before the tracks were lowered. Four tunnels between Paekakariki and Pukerua Bay.
Hi, was that to allow larger containers to use the route? I can't think of a more scenic commute to work, I would never tire of the changing view, it must have been interesting just reaching the work site.
Thanks for the comment. For fun I typed 'iconic Kiwi song about trains into Google'. The result was a link to an old advert - New Zealand Crunchie Train. RUclips won't let me post the link. But if you type 'New Zealand Crunchie Train' into Google it should take you there. Thanks again. Tim.
Love travelling by train, lived in J,Vile in the 60s, always loved going into and from the city. Now when we go to the UK we often travel up to London by commuter train a great way to travel
Hi, the new Wellington suburban trains are pretty good, but there was something special about the old English Electric units to Johnsonville. I'm glad I was able to travel on one before they were consigned to the history books. My local railway runs to London via the Arun Valley (West Sussex), the commuters read their papers without looking out of the window, sometimes I wonder if they realise just how beautiful the countryside they are passing through is.
+Dermot Jordan Cheers, I have just listened to part of the trip and the train sounds as though it is crossing a joint in the rail, but stopping the video reveals no fish-plates, maybe they weld shorter sections of rail together and the sound is the train crossing welds that have been dressed by hand.
Hi Andrew, I use royalty free music from Jewelbeat or the music is generated with Avid Studio video editing software. The track you refer to is Good Positive Vibes from Jewelbeat. Type 'jewelbeat royalty free music' into Google to get there, then type 'Good Positive Vibes' into the Jewelbeat search box, that should get you there. Thanks for the feedback. Tim.
+Larry R Wendell Jr The regular commuters on this line look happy and some even look out of the window. If you've got to catch the train to work every day, it's hard to imagine a better commute ... Cheers ... Tim :-)
Tim, nice video and great landscape! Have you ever considered using your Go Pro camera in the latest drone technology? Last week I found a great video from Tennessee. If you want to see what I'm talking about, please look up the following video: HiDef: Drone Railfanning In Tennessee-July 2014 which is posted by CSX6900). Good luck!
Hi, I use several GoPro cameras and I have seriously looked at buying a drone cam, now they are more reasonably priced. I just looked at the clip you suggested, simply amazing, from high above everything looks like an incredible model. The Phantom 2 is the one I have considered too. I 'll be putting it on my Christmas list, although I think it will be a present to myself, with a my wife suggesting it's about time I acted my age and sat in an arm chair, stroking the cat watching repeats on television like other men, my age. Thanks for your comment .... Tim.
FERROVIE DEL TRENTINO Thank-you, I have just arrived home from another highly scenic coastline, this time not so far away ..... Cinque Terre on the Italian Riviera ..... I hope to post some videos of that trip in the next couple of months.
Timsvideochannel1 yes, i know the place, Liguria, a place that kiss the sea! I will follow your channel, and if you like i have some nice video too about my country-railtracks.... Trentino Alto Adige, one of the northern italian countries...
FERROVIE DEL TRENTINO Hi, I have taken a look at some your videos and subscribed. Last week I travelled by train from Genova to Milano where we caught a Swiss Railways train to Bern on our return to England. I love travelling through the Alps by train, the scenery is outstanding.
Timsvideochannel1 Sure! We have really nice views, i live in Trento and as you can see it's in the middle of all that beauties! :-) Austrian border and Swiss rail are wonderful too! I'm planning to go there this autumn, while in few days i will go and travel across Germany-Denamrk and Sweden! But for those i will open a new channel! More news at the end of July on my channel! ;-) This will go on with lots of video done in the last couple of years, i have tons of material! Thank you for subscribing! I did the same! :-) Alway nice to talk with somebody, even so far away, that share the same passion for Trains and routes!
Tim -- Loving your videos. My dad was a rail fan -- but I'm a newbie. How about mentioning which continent we're on, in your intro ? Keep up the good work !
Hi, thanks for commenting, I read through the description for this video, and your are right to mention that I don't say which continent or country it was filmed in. Which continent is New Zealand a part of? curiosity got the better of me, so I looked it up .... here is a link to the answer .... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zealandia_(continent) .... I will change the description to include New Zealand .... thanks for taking time to comment .... Tim.
Indeed, a nice video, thanks. However, which model train was used, the old or the newly designed train? Much appreciate the design of the recent model. In addition, love the scenic route, especially along the waterways. Wish the video was longer, capturing the entire route, not just excerpts. Nevertheless, nice video.
Hi, thanks for the comment. The train was one of the older Hungarian built trains as there is a forward facing view, easier for filming. The train crew were only too pleased to share their railway with me and helped me set up the camera. I have captured the whole journey, but I was not sure if people would want to see it all , hence the Edited highlights....Tim.
Timsvideochannel1 Tim, if you can upload the entire route I, for one, would greatly appreciate it, for the brief excerpts of the scenery is outstanding in addition to the train route. If you elect to do, thank you in advance.
I think KiwiRail would like the line to be double throughout, but the cost of installing a second track around the cliffs along the Kapiti would be eye watering.
H I'm glad you liked it., Waikanae is on North Island, with it's station on the North Island Main Trunk Railway between Wellington and Auckland at the limit of the electrified Wellington suburban network. A day rover ticket for the Wellington Suburban network is great value for money and you get a superb view. For those with enough time the Northern Explorer train between Wellington and Auckland is a great way to see New Zealand.
richardburns1560 Hi Richard, I think train drivers in NZ need nerves of steel at times, there are many places where the lines runs along narrow ledges cut high into mountain sides, then there are the river crossings and towering viaducts with no hand rails, not to mention motorists at unprotected level crossings. One of the train drivers grinned as he told of his days at school, he had been gazing out of the classroom window when his teacher told him he'd never get a job looking out of a window, he gestured towards the magnificent scenery and the track in front saying I 'wonder what he'd say now' !!!
I'd rather use the natural sounds, but it's not always possible, I don't think the driver and guard would appreciate me broadcasting their private conversations to the world.
@@MinecraftDelivery Hi, Levin has a nice station although the the Northern Explorer didn't stop there, it is good to see that the Capital Connect serves the station.

This used to be my commute from paraparaumu to wellington its a nice ride makes me miss home thanks for the upload
It must have been good to see the Kapiti coast through the changing seasons in all sorts of weather.
Great video! Interesting to see the stations in real time speed.
Cheers, it has to be one of the most scenic commuter railways in the world.
