Thanks to everyone who helped blow up this video. Made a new video with my recommendation on how to save the DCEU. Check it out here:ruclips.net/video/6_lOoJpws3g/видео.html
Lobster Magnet's Review: The Channel If I was DC I'd turn the TV DC universe into the Movie universe as well.
They could connect the movies to what's going on in the TV shows and use the same actors and actresses too.

You sound like Fred from Scooby Doo. I like it.
The DCEU doesn't need to be saved you fucking idiot.
I don't often find new (to me) vids like this that are good. This was GREAT. Good insights, rants and made me laugh my ass off! Thanks!
The way Heath's joker says "Look at me" is more intimidating than Doomsday and Steppenwolf combined.

@@banking8297 In the comics yes, but the movie made him a mindless pile of monster.
@Project Trade has to be deluded Marvel fanboys
DCEU killed itself with terrible movies, lack of foresight, and planning. Mainly trying to invest in the justice league without building those characters up first
Boom, right here- This man can save you almost 20 minutes of your life with a nail on the head statement that should be obvious to anyone that has ever seen a proper movie.
Exactly
Preach it, brother. In the end, this boils down to one thing that the fat cats at DC and Warner lacked: PATIENCE. Marvel took a freaking DECADE to build up their cinematic universe.
I think there ganna do a full reboot with the solo joker movie
They tried to be the Marvel Cinematic Universe but without waiting to put in the effort to be the MCU.
The Dark Knight killed the DCEU because Christopher Nolan set the bar way too high
Nah. Nolan doesn't want the "realistic" trilogy to be involved with the universe, which is hypocritical since all of those movies' third acts are downright cartoonish, impossible, and fantastical compsred to their first two acts.
Joe Martinez What was so cartoony about the end of The Dark Knight?
I could not agree more. I also think they pressed Batman back into service way too quickly. On top of that WB/DC failed to truly account for Marvel. That is they saw and envied Marvel's success, but they failed to truly grasp that Marvel moved the goal posts and with the release of The Avengers the whole paradigm of superhero movies had changed. DC thought they could still ride the Dark Knight train but they don't have any of the talent or ingenuity that made the Nolan movies work nor did they have the heart or humor that made the Marvel movies work.
@@thatcherfreeman, the transformation of Two-Face, his immediate rampage and downfall, is so cartoonish I wish the film ends with the Joker being defeated rather than him going down.
Joe Martinez I see where you're coming from but idk if I'd say that's anywhere near as cartoonish as most of what's in any super hero movie nowadays. It's still in a level more realistic and gritty than, say, Man of Steel.
I don't care. Christian Bale was a freaking awesome Batman
Green Beast79. Nobody's arguing with you.
Voice was shocking in the sequel. Batman is purely good writing good look good voice. Bale had good writing which wasn't him

Yes
christen bale IS BATMAN!!!!
I said it before and I'll say it again: The Dark Knight was so great because it wasn't made to be a superhero movie. It was basically a crime film.
No, it was great because it had good inspirations, excellent casting, brilliant directing and so much more. It's the people involved who make a difference, not the genre
Ya definitely a large part of the contribution.
But I tend to agree. DK was more crime Film than just superhero movie.
I couldn't agree with you more. That's why I say that Infinity War is the greatest comic book movie out there.
Because the dark knight trilogy are not comic book movies. They're crime thrillers with a razor thin wrapping of a comic book around it that could easily been peeled off and still leave a solid movie.
@@OnionChoppingNinja Batman begins and dark knight rises are pretty superheroish, but The Dark knight yeah it's a great crime drama about an anarchist causing chaos and cops + a vigilante who dresses up as a bat tries to stop him. Seriously if you took the batman characters out of it, it would still be a great crime drama and people would probably compare it with Heat Instead of super hero movies.
OnionChoppingNinja, let me explain why your point is wrong: 1. The Dark Knight trilogy are comic book movies de-facto. Comic book movie is a term that refers to any movie based on a source material that was published in the form of a comic book. It's an objective definition. So, The Dark Knight, A History in Violence, and Road to Perdition are all comic book movies. 2. The idea of putting Batman and his villains in a real-life-like setting and portraying their stories as an exaggerated, mildly realistic crime tales has been a staple of Batman's comics since Denny O'Neil's and Neal Adam's run on Batman. So The Dark Knight trilogy is perfectly in line with the comic book lore. 3. Infinity War was not even like the comics, buddy. The Dark Knight had more to do with the comics than Infinity War. Infinity War couldn't even get the motivation of Thanos right. The movie made him into a generic social-Darwinist. Thanos was not that in the comics. He was a madman, remember? That's his name - Thanos, The Mad Titan. The Dark Knight was so pedantic about respecting its source of inspiration, the iconic graphic novel The Long Halloween, it homages that novel by putting Two-Face in the middle of the third act. Which is exactly where Two-Face appears in the novel. The novel contains of twelve individual issues, and Two-Face appears in the last two.
The Dark Knight is the one movie I can't stop rewatching, it' so good
It was good trilogy
Batman Begins and Superman Returns should’ve started the DCEU.
Both movies were one year apart from each other. Both movies were fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Both movies looked and felt like they could’ve been connected.
Superman Returns referenced Gotham City. Not to mention, it grossed more money at the box office than Batman Begins.

Batman has always been different from the rest of the DC universe and a lot of creators fail to appreciate that.
This is probably true.
As someone who grew up watching the Batman Animated Series, I personally think Batman is better on its own.
You put indestructible aliens, superpowered Amazonian women and a group of intergalactic police force and it all becomes uninteresting to me.
AttackMyClone ikr, I never understood how people say DC is darker than marvel, I’m not saying Marvel is dark, being lighthearted is great, but apart from batman, what’s so dark about DC, I love both but for different reasons and apart from batman they’re not so different, both can be lighthearted and dark and work perfectly if done right, compare the dark knight and Spider-Man, then compare Logan and the original Superman movie, done right both tones are good, look at justice league and suicide squad, two bright and colorful movies that are horrible and Thor the dark world, they can do both and debating that one is better bc it’s dark is pointless and the other can do it too
@@JV-yq7dx DC is a lot darker than Marvel in the comics. Movies I say would be the same.
A example that comes to mind of DC darkness is how Dr. Light (If you remember him from the Teen Titans Cartoon) actually raped Elongated Man's wife when he was onboard the Watchtower. He was a serial rapist and extremely powerful, so the Justice League decide to alter his mind to make him a weak villain via Zatanna magic. They also alter Batman's mind as he disagree with this.
@@notexalted800 No, DC isn't darker in comics. They both have dark and lighthearted stories.
As for that story, it was a terrible story. Alot of DC fans think so. That's an example of being dark without proper reason. It doesn't help that that became the defining characterization of Dr Light.
@@parkerboy795 No, DC is more darker than marvel generally
A film like the dark knight could only work with Batman. Bruce Wayne is just a normal guy with some martial arts training and money, and so making it feel like a crime thriller worked because that is kind of what Batman is. An alien in neon tights? Not so much.
Samir Simo i was referring to the whole trilogy, not just the one movie

DC should embrace the R rating. That's how they can differentiate themselves from Marvel. Logan was fantastic.
Yeah, but Superman, Batman, and WW should be accessible to kids. Agree that side movies would do well with R.
Logan is Marvel though and so is deadpool, I doubt they can overpower those with R rated movies and besides, those characters are meant for kids anyway
@@twodogsandacat2573 the kids who liked those characters are adults now..... have you seen the state of the cartoons and movies? haha they should at very least try to replicate the justice league cartoon. the comics still have a dark and gritty feel to most their work even the original teen titens cartoon had adult themes and wasn't talking down to you like that those new ones that have silly fart jokes and feels very much like nickelodeon show than a DC show.
@@twodogsandacat2573 the characters are marvel, but they're fox movies. no way marvel studio would put out movies that aren't cotton candy
Well the comics aren’t for kids and these kids now a days don’t kno who Majority of these heroes are
I'm sick of people saying dark and gritty is the reason why the films were bad. No it wasn't they were just bad films that happen to be dark and gritty
I think what he's trying to say is that the films were bad because they tried to be gritty, when they didn't have the nuance to make it sophisticated, just campy.
Nah, Man of Steel and Batman vs Superman were bad because they were dark and gritty because Zack Snyder does not now, nor has he ever understood Superman and tried to make him too much like Batman.
Sid R Amen! I've said this to my friends, Zack neither understands nor respects Superman's character and you can't build up the Justice League when you can't even get Superman - who is a massively central character - right.
Right. Many of the DC animated films, which are dark, are absolutely great!! Provided Geoff Johns isn't writing Hal Jordan...
Rocco Angone, of all the legitimate criticisms DCEU have received, the dark and gritty wasn't at the top of the list. The most glaring issues were the attempts to copy MCU's overused formula, with jokes in inappropriate places, pointless worldbuilding, and pointless plot points that are meant to set up future movies.
You know what? Im gonna watch the nolan trilogy again

@@Pernection do we not count the dark knight rises?
steve Macaulay Dark knight rises wasnt as good as begins or dark knight, but it should still be accounted for
@@weasel4674 what was wrong with The Dark Knight rises 🤔
dragon stone It was a fine movie, but with the dark knight being a predecessor it just seemed kind of a let down, I still love the movie though
I liked Man of Steel as a stand alone movie. I like Wonder Woman as a stand alone movie. I loved Aqua man as a stand alone movie. I didn’t hate BvS but honestly i don’t remember much that happened... never saw justice league or suicide squad. Basically what I’m trying to say is DC tried to run into the universe thing too soon. Or the fact that they did it at all. Look JUST BECAUSE MARVEL HAS A SUCCESSFUL UNIVERSE DOESNT MEAN EVERYTHING HAS TO BE A UNIVERSE NOW! I realize that the DC universe IS a universe that already exists, but there is nothing wrong with stand alone movies!
The appeal is the same as the 'celebrity angel'. As Oliver Goldman said, celebrities don't sell movies, but they do open them. Thats the appeal of the universe thing, anything to give it a leg up. Its surprising because there are actually SO few movies that come out, yet its all tied to the first week it seems. You don't make money then and you aren't going to make money.
Apart from the batmans I didn't really like ANY of the DC movies, too predictable. I didn't mind BVS, it was pretty good, just too many dream sequences. The problem of course is Marvel and the nature of executives. With Marvel you actually have guys who can stand up to executives, who almost always give bad advice. DC has always been run by Warner, which is executive hell. Some marvels fall into that trap, but many have strong directors who executives just like, like Taika Waikiti. They saw some rushes, laughed and liked it, left him alone. You can almost always tell an executive 'suggestion' or demand in a movie.
Nothing wrong with a universe, but when all you can do is copy marvel you have a problem. I mean, there are decades worth of scripts, and thats the best? Crisis on Infinite Earths predates Marvels multiverse, but all DC can come up with is Teen Titans, and their animation movies are far superior to their other movies. But executives live to copy, not originate.
Also, Zack Snyder just doesn't get why people like Superman and Batman and why those characters work. It becomes blindingly obvious when you watch his interviews about both films.
it's a shame because their animated films and TV series clearly show they know how to make good content
EXACTLY.
Live action Teen Titans would like a word.
Well, if it ain't animated, DC can't do it Justice
I find it quite funny that people hate the DCEU but watch utter shite like the Arrowverse. Probably the most camp looking thing I have ever seen. The DCEU is by no means perfect but don't attempt to say the TV shows are any better. They're embarrassing compared to shows like Daredevil.
YES! But that's DC making those, with WB funding. The movies have WB executives up the asses of the writers or they just pick the dumbest story written. The WB needs to let DC Comics make their own decisions and make their own movies. The WB just needs to fund it and both studios would benefit in the end.
The dark Knight is simply the greatest superhero movie,no question
@laz kar Dark Knight didnt need time travel or 10 plus years of set up to be good.
@laz kar In 10 years, Endgame will be considered a good movie, but TDK will still be considered one of the best movies of the century.
@laz kar the dark Knight is still the greatest superhero film even after endgame has come out
@@xStealthPigeon Because its story was self contained. The Dark Knight didn't have so many characters to introduce and develop, but that's because it didnt NEED to. Endgame DID.
laz kar Wtf?! Endgame is the mess. Time travel is the mess. Wtf with nebula killing herself?
It feel like a lot of "DCEU defenders" think critisism of the movies equals critisism of the characters or source material. It's not, a lot of it comes from a place of love.
I must say I'm not a big comic book guy, I read a few but only after the MCU got me hooked on superheroes and their interconnected stories.
And as much as it may seem, it's never about which side of the coin has the best heroes, both Marvel and DC have a gigantic cast of unique and colourful heroes, people just want them represented in a way that's faithful to the characters.
It's a shame Warner Bros doesn't see it like that.
And by faithful I mean Batman not using firearms and Superman not letting people explode, burn or get crushed under buildings he himself knocked over.
Markamanic I was the same with the dark knight and Arkham games before them I did not read comics but now I really like Batman comics and now deadpool as well
I have a nickname for such defenders: Stockholm Syndrome sufferers. At this point, it borders on masochism in how they defend this shit, settling for the mediocre because they're so afraid they'll get nothing otherwise.
killbotone Many people would disagree with you on that because it's a pretty unpopular opinion. Not just fans, but the general audience and critics alike seem to agree that Infinity War was pretty great. The Marvel fanboys do get very defensive at times, though. Unless what you're criticizing is Iron Man 2, The Incredible Hulk, or Thor the Dark World, you WILL get bombarded by Marvel fans calling your opinions trash.
killbotone No, it wasn't. That is a blatantly wrong statement. A majority of Marvel fans these days are adults, and why yes, some get quite defensive, I've seen many respectful ones. And no, the general consensus is not that Infinity War was bad. Look at critic reviews, RUclipsrs, video essays, and many more. I don't care if you liked it or not, but it is a provable fact that it was well received by most.
That’s because the directors don’t understand that Batman’s atmosphere is just not the same as Superman, yet they try to make Superman somber and gritty and it just doesn’t translate well. Also, the casting…
batman isn't gritty either. They are just copying nolan
It's been said before and i will say it again but most of the dc animated movies are very good so why that kind of story boarding can't be adapted to the a live action movie screen is a mystery to me.
Yeah I just watched death of Superman and thought holy shit why didn't they do more of this in bvs????
I want a live action under the red hood thats got the feel of the animated movie
Cause the cartoony elements would not translate well into live action. In any case Man of Steel was done very well so obviously WB dropped the ball with DCEU.

Teen Titans Go makes fun of dark and gritty movies and then DC turns around and makes a live action teen titans that is dark and gritty. Is ANYONE at DC even paying attention at this point? They are laughably incompetent
The Live Action Teen Titans is pretty sad.
I was really excited for Titans. I then saw a picture of the cast standing together and all of that existing immediately drained out of me.
that doesn't need to be the case - look at Adam West's batman co-existing with Bales depiction, a successful light hearted take doesn't diminish a future serious angle on the material
This is where a multiverse works; you can have both dark/gritty/realistic existing next to more light-hearted fare.
I believe studio execs saw that episode and just assumed we all wanted a "brutal, edgy" Teen Titans rather than the original show which was able to effectively balance both light and dark moments. They're such a joke.

Lots of good stuff when he sticks to the source material, then he decides to convey some convoluted concept about the world not being ready for the second coming or something, so he makes him stand while doing nothing watching HIS OWN FATHER dying to save a fucking dog, just to protect his secret identity. Too bad that he already showed his powers to all of his classmates with the bus incident and he does the exact same thing on the oil platform later on, which makes zero sense. Both movies were one year apart from each other. Both movies were fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Both movies looked and felt like they could’ve been connected.

I Am Legend teased a crossover between them for May 2010. The billboard in Times Square had Christian Bale’s Batman logo and Brandon Routh’s Superman logo merged together.
The reason is because the Dark Knight focused on moral themes while remaining an action movie. Almost all movies since are just action, and don’t really focus on the genre I like to call “Superhero Crime Fiction”. Whereas superhero tells action, Crime Fiction means, well, crime, and morality being tested. Testing the audience’s moral standards (a great example is the most recent Orient Express movie) means that they feel more of an emotion connection to the movie, making the events stand out more.
DC and WB clearly got scared that Marvel was making B and C list characters as overnight rockstars. When a talking raccoon and tree become superstars, DC clearly did something wrong. I always felt DC should’ve made a Batman movie before the BvS one. Wonder Woman and the Flash after that. Justice League next, introduce Aquaman and Green Lantern in the JL movie. A Brainiac invasion would be the reason and revealing that Brainiac destroyed Kyrpton ( he wanted their technology). Green Lantern and Aquaman movies come after the League one.
Guardians of the Galaxy were already popular before the movies though. People loved their comics years before the movie was even a thought
They were beloved in their comic bubble, but your average movie goer was in the dark. Hell, I grew up on things like the X-Men cartoon and dabbled in comics but had never heard of them.

1r0zz After learning the context of this, I retract my earlier comment.
Thalanox
yeah... I mean, it's weird... I mean I guess they can hate the "anime" like Teen Titans previous series, but the group of teen titans is an interesting group and cast of heroes that you can use for many interesting stories...I mean, Raven alone could be the main character of a full big budget movie...
TTgo also "insulted" Young Justice series and that's where the whole "serious story" joke started...
The Dark Knight didnt kill the DCEU, it's the incompetent studio execs behind the scenes that are too lazy to research the source materiel and find the right tone for each character and movie. They'd rather slap a "Dark Knight" filter over everything in the hopes that it performs as well. What they don't realize is that the dark gritty look & feel worked for Nolan in Dark Knight because it's the essence of Batman. End rant.
@Antonio Valdivia Jr aaaaw dammit! You beat me to the comment! Lol
In this guy's defense the title says Dark Knight did, which is exactly what OP refuted
I agree. Batman Begins and Dark Knight were partly written by Goyer, who I believe confessed to being a total Batman fanboy. I could be wrong. Maybe it was Chris Nolan’s brother? I don’t remember. But it was written by people who clearly understood the essence of Batman.
Indeed, one who is lazy is right next to one who is destructive. If you want something worthy, you must put in the time and effort - mansions and castles aren't built overnight, but a cheap shack sure can be.
Noctis Caelum I disagree. I liked Ben Affleck as Batman, but I think the Dark Knight trilogy were the better films.
Dark Knight Rises was amazing. He wasn't done lol. He put a fantastic ending on a remarkable trilogy.
Cameron Rice thank you! He doesn’t get enough credit for putting a great ending to the trilogy which was very tough to do given the circumstances
*it’s a damn shame how the animated DC universe IS MILES BETTER than the live action dceu*
Compelling characters is what keeps the MCU going, getting a director that isn't good with characters was a bad idea.
Joaquin Phoenix will save DC.

The Gaming Ghost I know that it isn’t that hard to implement injustice to the DCEU.
What happened to Batman/Superman: Public Enemies?
DC rules the show side of comic books, But Marvel dominates the movies. Marvels shows are getting canceled. DC movies are bad
Tbh i like this idea but its too much to ask right now given that the DCEU is on shaking knees rn
Dear Warner Bros,
I need to be honest and clear. I’m going to watch Marvel movies. I love them and I want to spend the rest of my money with them. When I told you when the day would come when DC movies didn’t need to be the Dark Knight all the time we’d love your movies I meant it. But now I know the day won’t come when YOU no longer need the Dark Knight. I hope it does. And if it does I’ll be there. But as a fan, I’m sorry to let you down. If you lose your faith in me please keep your faith in DC properties.
Have some faith, besides I got bored of marvel films long ago myself, I just watched the spiderman homecoming movie and civil war, and ant man and the wasp because I was going out with someone and I didn't know what to watch ( it was boring and no one was in the theatre). The DCEU should be dark, and be different from the marvel films, but also include jokes at times to lighten up the mood ( not one liners though just comedic effect at times that blends in with the dark tone), but ofcourse not make it dark for too long or else it will be stale the film. The generic tone of Marvel movie bores me now since the days they felt original to me. Wonderwoman was a breath of fresh air, and say what you want I find batman v superman, not found it the best movie, but I enjoyed it going blind on the first screening ( and I have seen 10 or so analysis videos on it and do agree it was boring at a lot of parts, but still enjoy it for what it is). If the DCEU wants to attract different superhero audiences, they need to take advantage of marvel movie fatigue and give their own spin on superheroes, go deeper into the character and what their TRUE motives are ( not reading the killing joke and the dark knight and thinking you know all about batman). If you want to stick to Marvel and have a bad vibe for things warner brothers puts out, you won't see the good in the films, you will have a biased view with the mindset you have. So please be more acceptant, the name isn't what you should be blaming, with hundreds of employees in studio houses working 24/7
Sadly, someday never comes.
Just watch the animated stuff and you'll be fine.
new spidey game is sick
No one knows you, dont act important.
Couldn’t agree more dude, no matter how good the first two Nolan movies were, it set WB and the DCEU on a path of self-destruction.
Thx man
I disagree, I don't think the Nolan-verse destroyed the DCEU. Warner Bros.' incompetence is what killed the DCEU. I honestly think the dark and gritty tone could have worked for the DCEU, it worked for Wonder Woman. The difference is Wonder Woman was done by a legitimate competent director and not an overconfident ass kisser. One thing that exemplifies Snyder's incompetence is the fact he let the producers dictate what the next movie was going to be after Man of Steel. They wanted him to cram all those introductions to ALL those characters to set up Justice League to play catch up with Marvel. It could have worked. But not under the guidance of Zack Snyder. BvS hadn't even hit theaters and they hired him to do Justice League and had him start shooting. When BvS had it's ugly backlash they scrambled desperately. They hired some random music video company to re-cut Suicide Squad without the director's knowledge, and they CUT one of the biggest highlights of the movie (Leto's Joker, even if he clearly was trying too hard). Then they remove Snyder, and put Whedon in with not nearly enough time to truly fix the movie. WB had given up on their DC properties years ago, after they butchered it with Batman & Robin. They became interested again when Nolan made it profitable again. But when he was done they thought they had cracked the code on what makes these properties successful and they were mistaken.
How are you this incompetent?.. He literally just states why the Nolan movies killed the other DC movies..
Jared' Leto's Joker wasn't the highlight of ANYTHING. It was the WORST "Joker" portrayal of all time. Hell, he wasn't even TRYING to play The Joker; he was doing a Pacino impression or something. He was the only part of that film that I DIDN'T like. Let's just call him "The Joke" and be done with it.
The problem is that they first and foremost are trying to make a profitable movie.
If that's your main goal, then you're not going to get it.
You need to make a good story and then see how to make a profit from it.
Charles Bolanos...and I'm telling you WB could have kept the DCEU going after Nolan, if they just brought in the right people to do it. But their care of the material is so close to apathy that it brought us what we know as the DCEU. Becker I agree Jared's Joker was not great, but WB sold the movie with Harley Quinn, Will Smith and Leto's Joker. But in their post-BvS scramble they cut most of Leto out after promoting him for the movie. RogerWilco you bring up a great point. WB casts their movies based on the draw of the actor/actress and not how well they will do the role. It's how Affleck was casted as Batman. But it boils down to the collaboration between writers, directors and producers. The producers at WB have exuded too much power over the collaboration and we get BvS, SS, and JL.
TheMrBmurray right...!
Titans vs teen titans go was hilarious but it also filled me with pain because it is true
Same but with cringe instead of rage
Aqua man is going to flop
Selassie West and the Shazam trailer was embarrassing
DCEU should have just been patient like Marvel. Instead of trying to catch up with Marvel they should have learned from Marvel. Also the DCEU movies were tonally too inconsistent. This is the main reason why Justice League failed. Batmans character went from a dark killing vigilante to a joke cracking idiot. And now Henry Cavill apparently isn't Superman anymore? Gg DCEU.
Not good game, it's game over.
The problem is inconsistencies in the vision. Snyder already had 5 movies planned out. He had his conclusion for the universe written and he was gonna let WB go from there. WB said fuck that, greenlit Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman and the universe just simply became the case of too many hands in the cookie jar.
I don't think that justice league was technically a box office failure
I hate when people say DC tried to play catch up...So...introducing your big team up movie instead of solo movies is trying to play catching up..?? Wrong..it's their way of introducing characters... It also adds a mystery to why they are contributing to the team..
Also..the thing about Batman is that it's his way of dealing with the after effects after Supermans death... Batman is still the serious type..however Bruce can sometimes crack a little joke...
@@timothygalvin3021 I can't believe justice League 2017 flopped considering that it was screenwrote by Joss Whedon who did 6 MCU films.

Young justice was good
DC has a simple problem. Their heroes are based around their powers. Marvels heroes are based around their personalities. Iron Man is Tony Stark with a super suit, Spider-man is Peter Parker with super powers. The reason Batman works is because he has no powers. They've had to develop Bruce Wayne because he is integral to the character. Batman stories are detective stories with a Zorro-like character as the lead detective. Zorro stories are essentially Robin Hood retold with the titular character changed to a Spanish swordsman. Superman has no real connection to past works. He was created out of whole cloth by two Jewish boys who wanted a character who could solve any problem. His character arc is he's a super powerful alien who does good. That's it, you're done. And this permeates most DC works. Who is the least interesting character in Watchmen? Dr. Manhatan. Literally the only guy with real powers. If DC wants an EU, they are going to have to go back and develop the characters. And that doesn't mean waste time on their childhoods or make them all edgy. Clark Kent is not edgy. He is simply a good guy. And that doesn't mean he has to be a 1950's caricature either. You can develop him as a modern man who always does the right thing. Do that, and we will root for him as Superman.
Of all the comments in this or any other video about why Warner is so incompetent trying to adapt the DC characters in movies or tv series, I tell you: you nailed it perfectly.
I tried to tell this to my DC fans friends they just blocked me out. basically saying I'm Marvel nuts (even though I love batman :/ and want DCEU to work) and Warner Bros is at fault. but really, the core problem is how DCEU wasn't invested in character building. movie-goers loves character development.
Instead he became an idiot who will obey the government and ignore what is truly right and wrong.
At least in that one movie.
Not sure why you felt compelled to remark about the ethnicity of the two "jewish" creators, as it seems rather irrelevant to me, but I disagree on Dr. Manhattan. He has drama and he is conflicted, having a multi-dimensional insight on what happens (or is going to happen) around him.
Nite Owl was imho much more flat, kinda of a hard discount version of batman.
i dont think dr manhattan was boring, before he became that he was a normal scientist guy and even as dr manhattan he wasnt boring because in the whole movie he was like you said the only one with real powers, it made him unique in the setting, unlike other dc heroes where literally everyone has super powers, and its not like dr manhattan didnt have a character developed, it was literally the lack of character, the complete apathy that made him good, the other heroes just dont work like that

Literally no one gives a fuck
1) Isn't this the same mentality as blaming the kid who studied for a test and aced it because he made the rest of the class look bad?
2) DCEU failed because WB. Specifically, they hired directors who didn't know nor wanted to know the source material (the characters & world they exist in), they were poorly written, and they wanted to jump on the bandwagon of the MCU without ever doing any character or world building to earn the rapport of the audience.
I don't think the uploader actually thinks the Dark Knight is responsible for the failure of DCEU. The title is just short for "How the Dark Knight Gave Birth to the Killer of the DCEU." Basically the same deal with the Jason Bourne trilogy and the action genre of the following decade.
Actually, I was going off what he said in the first few minutes. The title is more of a TL;DW. He keeps basically saying that the Dark Knight was so good, it caused the DCEU to fail.
It's more like some other kid copied the test of the kid who studied and tried to use the same answers on a completely different test.
You can't put the blame for the failure of the DCEU anywhere but on senior management. They looked at marvel said they are our competitor we need to catch up with them in Expanded universe creation. They then rushed into making team up movies of characters that we hadn't been introduced to yet and built up an understanding of within the context of said universe. We didn't love bat fleck or aquaman or the flash or cyborg we didn't hate or have affection for the members of the suicide squad. So the film makers where tasked with building fan investment in an entire set of characters and having an interesting conflict at the same time and this is a setup for failure in my opinion. They should have looked to compete with marvel on a tit for tat basis following the roadmap for building a cinematic universe by starting with the individual characters then moving up to multi character movies. Hell they even had an opportunity to one up marvel by building a better rogues gallery cause the mcu's roster of antagonists isn't that great across the board.
So I keep hearing this over and over. Do you really think Batman needed a movie before facing off with Superman? Hell I thought the 2-3 scenes where they showed his parents dying in BVS was too much. Everyone on earth knows why Batman became Batman. Everyone on earth knows Superman's tale. You couldn't say the same for Ironman when it came out in 2008, or Black Widow. The Hulk had a long running TV series and a movie before the MCU, Spider-Man had multiple movies, thus why neither (I don't count Nortons Movie) needed an origin movie before coming into the MCU. People already knew there story. Who on the SS was important enough to have an origin? Aquaman is B level JL. I loved Batfleck, and those that hate Snyders movies still enjoyed Batfleck. I do agree the problem was with upper management. But it wasn't the layout, it was the interference they ran against Snyders vision. Cut this, change that, shorten this. It caused confusion, and incoherence. And that's what people mainly don't like about the DCEU. Which Ironically is what people love about the MCU.
the dark knight did not kill the DCEU, DC just could not get as good a director as chris nolan. simple as that

pittland44
no they actually confused WW1 with WW2...the big difference between WW1 and WW2 is that EVERY COUNTRY in WW1 was "bad"...the war exploded pretty much because everyone thought they had better weapons that could resolve in blood all the various gripes between countries...sure Germany could be said more "evil" for the use of chemical weapons, that said British, French and Austrian forces started to adopt them (and british use was kinda a failiure...). also the gas mask in WWI wasn't that great (so the whole gas-melting-mask in the story is kinda silly, also because it should also attack skin and clothes...I mean many WWI gas kinda attacked the skin anyway...)

Batman Begins and Superman Returns should’ve started the DC Cinematic Universe. Warner Brothers made a mistake not combining the two worlds together.
Both movies were one year apart from each other. Both movies were fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with fans and critics. Both movies looked and felt like they could’ve been in the same universe. Both movies brought the two most popular superheroes back on the big screen after a long hiatus.
Superman Returns referenced Gotham City. Not to mention, it grossed more money at the box office than Batman Begins whose sequels went on to hit the one billion dollar mark.
I Am Legend teased a crossover between them for May 2010. The billboard in Times Square had Bale’s Batman logo and Routh’s Superman logo merged together.
Underrated comment.
The problem was, that Nolan specifically said, not to join his movies with a universe, also Christain Bale has stated that he will opt make another batman movie unless nolan is the director
Mexican Boi - Yeah. If I recall, Bale’s Bruce Wayne was supposed to make a cameo in Superman Returns, hence the Gotham reference, but Nolan turned it down.

The answer is simple: the Dark Knight trilogy as a whole was just superior to the current DCEU. Better cast, way better villains (although the Riddler would've been awesome to see in Nolan's trilogy. Bale's Batsuits were way better (the Batman logo on Affleck's suits alone sucks) and is all around a better Batman than Ben (I would've picked Jim Caviezel). Heath Ledger's Joker is the greatest movie villain ever period, that alone buried the DCEU, considering how terrible Leto's Joker was (he looked more like a junkie pimp than a super villain).

Get away with it? Nobody over the age of 10 likes that garbage. I enjoy comedy shows too. So I am not hating. If something is MEANT to be comedy(Regular Show, Chowder, Spongebob etc) then it works, but forcing good characters to be comedic jokes and farting noises and poop jokes is not funny.

"The reason the DCU failed is that it was rushed."
Yeah, that might be 80% of the problem.

If the DCEU films were only a tenth as good as Watchmen then it'd be an amazing franchise.
No one asked Warner to copy the Dark Knight for their DC shared universe to compete with Marvel. So the Dark Knight did not kill the DCEU, Warner Bros did with their botched execution. As usual studios take the wrong lessons..."oh, people love dark, let's try to make everything dark!" "Oh, people love humour, let's try to make everything funny!" "Oh, people love the female superhero, let's force more female superheroes!" "Oh, people love the R rating, maybe let's make everything R rated!" So their plan was to wait for 19 movies and let WB/DC gain all the buzz of having the first truly relevant female superhero movie ever(the only very succesfull thing the DCEU actually accomplished so far), until they make a movie about an in the general public completely unknown characters like Carol?
Sounds like an amazing plan...
@surfitlive
Honestly, with how DC flops so much, I really don't think they care.
DC can try as much as it wants, but at this point, the MCU is an invincible juggernaut.
As long as marvel keeps on its way, they don't need to care for anything DC pulls out.
That comparison between the Teen Titans Go episode & the crappy TV series at 14:35 is so accurate it's freaking spooky.
The Dark Knight trilogy even better than marvel movies, im a marvel fan's.
I mean its definitely a matter of taste. I don't have an affinity for either DC or Marvel but Dark Knight's edgy broody nature gets played out after one rewatch imo, while I could understand that people may have a similar experience to the over abundance of quips and jokes in Marvel movies, for me its not the case.
Nah.. it depends on the taste of a person.. the dark Knight was really good.. but the other two were not really special.. and besides, the wonder woman was really good (except that it was like watching a woman captain America).. dc just suck at making movies..
as much as i love Captain's movies i gotta agree on this !
the dark knight had the best story of any superhero movie. One of the best plots in a movie ever.
Nah, it wasn't all that. Batman Begins was good, The Dark Knight was amazing, but The Dark Knight Rises was hilariously bad. Most Marvel movies are a lot better than two of the three.
Christopher Nolan, Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, Heath Ledger.

Comparing synder to michael bay really hits the nail on the head. The funniest part is that not only does snyder think hes smarter than he really is but so does his "woke" fan base. If you give any sort of reasonable criticism about BvS they all act like your just too "dumb" to understand his very basic story telling. Well done.
A bit like Star Wars
@@joesycamore2899 haha so true. Which is why i didnt get my panties over TLJ. I walk into every star wars film with the mind set that its a childrens movie.
Ben Espinoza THANK YOU someone has sense
Ben Espinoza Disney has pretty much killed Star Wars at this point, and they are now busy beating a dead horse. Batman v Superman was just plain garbage, and Snyder needs to humble himself.
Michael Bay is way more self aware then people give him credit for one of my favorite quotes is him saying "I make movies for teenage boys. What a crime"
So in one end we could have the best batman trilogy ever and an awful starting dceu, or no batman trilogy and posibbly a better dceu.
I choose the first
The DCEU killed itself by making terrible movies and no planning and not taking full advantage of what Dark Knight did. The tone of DCEU was fine. Dark and gritty movies sell even today. Even marvel had movies like that. The rush, no character development and the convulated plots were the problem.
In fact, DC's serious tone meant more serious stakes that made audience more invested and every loss would have a genuine impact. That's why infinity war was amazing. Ant man 2 after it was not so much
But dark tone is not the bread and butter of every hero. Shazam for exampls. Superman too. He lives in a dark world but himself is the ray of hope and sunshine and not an emo edgelord.
Ant-man 2 was pretty alright imo :) but regarding dceu the lack of planning I agree
Honestly bro you're so right. I agree 100% DC is supposed to be dark. But you see. Way too many people bitched and complained about how the movies were dark and how marvel was more lighthearted and funny so Warner listened which was wrong to do to those retarded idiotic dumb fucks and we got DCEU which was horrible. Except for Man of Steel and Wonder Woman.
That teen titans bit was hilarious.
@deenman23 Teen Titans Go!: Season 2, Episode 32 - Let's Get Serious
Some people say Teen Titans Go! is absolutely awful with no redeeming features. And yes, it's not the same as the original 2003 animated Teen Titans series that it's based on. But by _god_ it can be bitingly satirical when it wants to be.
It is somehow the dumbest and smartest superhero cartoon at the same time.
"...is absolutely awful with _no redeeming features_ "
"But by god it can be bitingly satirical when it wants to be."
Not to point out the obvious, but wouldn't the latter statement be a redeeming feature?
I think ArcaneAzmadi is not lumping himself in with the 'some people' who consider it awful and without redeeming features. Like it is hard to talk about the new show without a shout out to the fans of the old show who hate this incarnation, but legit this incarnation has so much to offer.
I'm still bitter about the James Gunn thing. The worst part is if he hadn't attracted attention to himself, no one would have cared. Disney doesn't care. But because he drew negative public opinion, Disney dropped him on his ass. Great video man, I lost it at that Teen Titans comparison!
Glad you liked that bit. I might make a video going in depth about my thoughts on that because I'm furious on a lot of levels because of it. For both sides.
Aaron Parker Man I hope James Gunn can still return and they are just overreacting because of some conservative opinions.
Yep. So sad.
You're all out of your liberal lunatic leftist progressive minds. Eat a big bag of boiled Shit. Then shove it up your hypocritical asses.
Aaron Parker I hate this narrative that people actually cared about what Gunn had said. It was that dumb alt-right idiot Mike Cernovich who redug that stuff to scared Disney of a backlash that never happened.
The Dark Knight is better than everything the DCEU has put out
I think the fact that you could tell this entire story without the Nolan story preceding it shows that you should be blaming Snyder for killing it, not Nolan. It's like saying the reason why xbone isn't doing well (compared to ps4 with customer satisfaction) Is because the xbox360 was such an amazing system and so far ahead of ps3. Doesn't make sense to me, just because someone set a bar, it's not their fault that everyone after them failed trying to imitate them. Either set a higer bar or find another one.
Good analogy...but the Xbox One still has more customer satisfaction than the DCEU.
Totally agree. Also nolan was never responsible for creating a universe, so why would he have taken that into account? He created a trilogy was self contained. Something to consider
...but the Xbox one isn't doing well because the Xbox 360 did so well they got comfortable and the PS4 is doing better than the PS3 because of the competitive drive from the PS3 loss. All you can hope is to innovate enough while staying familiar and hope to catch a break.
I say this with newer generations.
You never want to be first.
Ps3 then 360. 360 won.
Xbox One then PS4. PS4 won. Granted I think ps4 wins 100% due to their exclusives. God of War and Spiderman kinda just put the nails in the coffin. X1 doesn't really compare in exclusives. Got your shooters like Halo and Gears...but really those are like CoD, they get old after so many.
El Ski, didn't PS2 come out before the original Xbox? I think it just comes down to foresight and marketability. How focused on that era of gaming is the console? How long will that console last?
Bruce Timm and Paul Dini should be the executive producers of all the DC Movies
Too bad the former gave us The Killing Joke and Harley and Batman.
Let me rephrase you: Bruce Timm and Paul Dini should be executing all producers of the DC Movies
Paul Dini sure, Bruce Timm made Batman and Batgirl have sex and made Nightwing and Harley have sex. Dude's got a weird fetish it seems.
Sooo Bruce timm and Paul dini are still with WB and these are the movies we get. 😑
Timm just can't be in total control or we'll have to suffer through all of his fanfictions
Christopher nolan is like God of Movie Industry.... Give him trash, he ll turn it into gold
Like insomnia.
@Abhijeet Yes... the god of biting other's ideas.
Cough *Intersteller
*cough cough* Interstellar was his brother's script from 2007. He jumped on that bandwagon too.
JayGriffinblaze thats not really a “biting” example directors usually dont write completely original scripts, my point to the original commentary is that its a failure of a movie and the script is trash which he didnt save
"It's not about how good your CGI, it"s about telling a good story"
I agree 100% with you. Snyder didn't even tried to understand the core of the DC characters he was supposed to adapt on the big screen. A lot of his story in both Man of Steel and Batman vs Superman is based on the assumption that Superman is capable of killing. Nothing could be more wrong. The real superpower of Superman in the comics is to be an pure incarnation of justice and good. He can't kill, period. Not for Lois Lane, not to save his mother, not even to save Earth. He will always find another answer and that should have been the road taken. He's described in the comics as an antithesis of Batman, the latter being more enclined to use any means necessary. From there, even the choice of color grading in Man of Steel is wrong. Superman should've been much more colorful. These characters are archetypes, some scholars compare them to ancient heroes such as Hercules or Ulysses. You can't tell their stories if you don't know what is their fundamental character trait.
@Santos Lewynn i agree
Exactly! It would have been fine having a Superman or Batman movie where they kill and are extra dark, but NOT in the first movies! First build up the characters, and TRUE to their actual personas, then in sequels, preferably later then sooner, show them going through dark times/character changes/moral conundrums. Did the mcu start off with Ironman fighting captain America for a random dumbfuck reason? Did they start captain America off as a dark brooding mercenary? Imagine starting Peter Parker off as a criminal branding gangbanger who just doesn’t give a fuck or something (roflmao)? DCeu’s not dead just set back in a coma for years. Only a fresh remake will truly save it and bring it the glory it deserves. Start with good origin stories which are going to be even more boring now since we already know them. Tease team ups. Tease heroes knowledge and opinions of each other. Establish their motivations, personal views in the world and m.o.’s. DONT fuck up or waste MAJOR storylines (death of Superman 🤦🏽♂️) Showcase what makes us love the characters in terms of their personalities and powers, and hit this hard, dc shows particularly excel here (the hulk, cap, and spidey are marvels excellers in this area). DON’T fuck up or waste major villains (like doomsday smh 🤦🏽♂️), and everything I wrote above pretty much applies to villains too. I remember watching the last episode of jlu where Superman reveals just how insanely op and strong he is if he removed all his mental blocks and really knew he could hit someone (darkseid) as hard and fast as he wanted and they wouldn’t die. Super powered fights are always cool, but what made it stick with me for so many years and so amazing is that it was slowly and meticulously built towards. Peaceful by nature Superman slowly showing his real strength, Batman knowing all along what a monster he really is or could be, darkseid constantly pushing him to the edge morally. We all felt invested because it was written well and true to the characters. If Superman had killed darkseid out of necessity in that episode or when he killed dan Turpin it would have been 100x easier to swallow than in man of steel. Batman being dark and super brutal to the point of mindlessly killing because of Jason Todd would have been fine too if properly and patiently executed.
The problem with Snyder is how he cut his superhero teeth on Watchmen, which was a fatalistic deconstruction of superhero mythology. Once he popped that cherry, he couldn't revert back to a pristine vision of superhero integrity that he'd never experienced in the first place. He's a destroyer of empires, not a builder of universes.
you know the problem with characters and not killing is? It requires the writer to give the character a choice. There is always some deus ex machina sollution to characters like that. It works quite well with batman these days because batman is an interesting hero overall. He has weaknesses and flaws. Superman does not. I hate snyders batman. It goes against everything batman is because batman had a choice in the killings/murders. It bothers me alot because you can make batman fight brutal without killing. To show a brutal version of batman he just need to break bones. The last fight in BvS was done well except bats would have saved the grenade guys.... I am not sure if the guy he stabbed in the shoulder survived or not. At least he put superman in a no choice scenario. You can argue that superman could do this, that or whatever but I think it was done ok. The only thing in Man of steel I hate is the way Jonathon Kent died. Man of Steel was an enjoyable film but BvS and JL are pure garbage.

Yo also watch:
Batman Does Not Kill.
Its inspiring af.
The 1978 superman movie is bright colorful and hilarious. After all they are COMIC books. That movie stands up wonderfully even with its noncomputer effects.
Plus Christopher Reeve played Superman as he should be played, as a glorified super-powered boy scout. It was corny, but at least watching those Superman films were fun (though Superman III took it too far with Richard Pryor), not the depressing borefest that was MOS.
When I go to the movies, I want to feel happy, not like I want to blow my brains out afterwards.
Reeves Superman is a nice guy who grew up unnoticed in Kansas. He wants only to do the right thing by people. We really like him (and Clark). At one point Reeve goes from Clark to Superman and back to Clark in one long take, no effects at all. He simply changes his posture and facial expression. Its great.
About the "nice guy" thing. The best part of Superman III was when Superman became bad, and battled his "good side" Clark Kent in a junkyard.
fun fact: nolan said the long halloween served as further inspiration for the dark knight than the killing joke
Makes sense to me. I never saw any particular elements of The Killing Joke in Dark Knight - Not a trace...
the jokers plan was apparently straight from the killing joke, but instead of driving gordon insane and failing, he drives harvey insane and succeeds
Sorry, can't agree. Both plans involved trying to make someone crazy, but that is the only similarity. _Every other detail_ is different. You might as well say that any movie with the Joker is "straight from" any story with the Joker.
(Aside from which, Harvey Dent in Dark Knight is already half-crazy. He's perfectly willing to kill, already using his trick coin to decide such matters even _before_ Rachel is killed and he is disfigured. If you pay attention, he's an unstable character and "driving him insane" isn't a long trip. He's sort of a less well-adjusted version of Batman, if that makes sense.)
i dont super agree with your analogy but yeah fair
The best thing that happened to DC was Batman trilogy. DC killed itself by trying to make Batman vs Superman dark
That story is dark originally wdym ???
Correction: Batman trilogy was the best thing to happen to DC movies, not in general, though it's one of the best along with the Arkham games and animated series.
@Bradyn Kerr I agree that DCEU is bad. But nowhere MCU is masterpiece lmao, they are 'fast food of cinema'😂
The dark knight rises destroyed their chances because they set the bar so high.
@Sammy Smith DKR is overrated
@@southwestdairyfarmers2952 I don't know, man. It seems pretty equally loved and hated.
@OkyDooky you pretty much got it down
Nolan made you care for Bruce Wayne and Batman the same which is not easy to pull off.
no he didn't
@@jackadoni stfu
If they wanted to fix the DCEU, then they need a flashpoint movie to hit the 'reset' button and start from the beginning.
