Tip, if you have multiple electronics that don't have a USB charger option you can bring an extension cord that can change 1 into multiple outlets, means you only need one adaptor plug. It's really helpful to bring one when sharing rooms too!
Although my international traveling days are over I found this video to be VERY helpful for travel newbies!! I shot video documentaries in Israel, Brazil, Mexico, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand and Malaysia. I carried country-specific adapters and converters wherever I went and tried to use battery power whenever possible. You are absolutely correct to check each device to determine what is safe. It is rare to see travel vloggers share this important technical info.Thnx Nadine!
Extremely useful video! I remember trying to read through things online and struggling big time to understand but this was a much better way to hear this necessary, basic info. Highly recommend to those who are traveling abroad for the first time.
This video was super helpful! I watched one other video before your's, and your's was the most helpful by far. Now I feel confident traveling with my electronic devices. Thank you!
I loooooooved this video.. I'm a VERY frequent traveller and how now idea about this.. we did cause a mini fire in italy last year with a flat iron, but had no idea why it happened. besides that, i never had other issues. but now ill be sure to check my devices for sure! Thanks Nadine!
Very comprehensive, informative video Nadine! I've lucked out for all my previous travels since I didn't understand the electrical currents and such before but turned out all my devices had the range that let them work worldwide...now I know for sure. Thank you!
I love this video and I wish I saw it before I went to Thailand. I did bring a converter but I also brought a sub protector just to give myself extra outlets, USB ports nd peace of mind with my electronics. 👍🏾
This is the best video I’ve seen about this info! Thank you soooo much! You go straight to the point with all the important info and don’t miss anything like others that focus more on trying to be funny 👍
Wow I had no idea to even think about this! I’m going to study abroad in the summer can you do a video on what you took that you didn’t need to use or something that you felt you needed from the states that you didn’t take on your trip to study abroad? Guidelines on how to live outside your comfort zone so far I want to pack my whole room and bathroom with me lol
@HeyNadine :) Do you think you could do a video about airport rules and just break down for us what exactly you can and can't bring, how big can your carry-on bag be, how many luggage are you allowed to bring on the plane with you, and so on?
I'm from the UK where our voltage is 220 and brought my hair dryer to Japan only for it to run so slow it took me 40 mins to dry my hair. i have multi adaptor, but all of my devices are multi voltage except my hair dryer.
I'm jetting off to live in Czech Republic for a while and this is something that I heard about but it really confused me! This video was so helpful thank you!! :) What are your tips for traveling around Europe for cheap?
I have trust issues because the last day of my trip in London I plugged my US MacBook Pro charger into my adapter and it sparked, broke the charger, and blew out the power in my room 😅😭
Also JUST the laptop and phone needs to come out during security. Just...Just the laptop. And X-ray screenings can damage film, so either ask them to inspect it by hand, or just pack it really carefully. Cameras don't need to be in the bin in airport security. Just packed carefully so the xrays don't damage them.
The Chinese tend to use a plug socket that will take both the 3 prong NZ/AU plug as well as the 2 prong US and EU plugs. The only difference between the Chinese 3 prong plug and the NZ/AU 3 prong plug is that the Chinese install their socket the other way up with the earth prong at the top instead of the bottom.
Any chance you can recommend (brands) which plugs to get? We’re going to UK and France trying to get the best ones to use so we don’t fry our electronics. Thanks
Hi. Great info. We are traveling from US TO Tahiti and I keep going in circles about what to get. We’ve got an iPhone, insta360x3, go pro 12, charging bank for insta batteries, curling iron says 120/240v, ac 50/60 hz 125w. Not sure if I should get the small light weight square universal adaptor or a Ceptics travel voltage converter 200W? If I go with the converter then I’m sure I’m safe right? Even if the items are compatible either way? Only thing it won’t do is a hairdryer. Your help is appreciated. Thanks
Hey! I’m traveling to Europe in the summer and I’m only taking a carry on. I know that I’m going to end up buying something I won’t be able to take on the plane. Could you do a video about shipping stuff home and how to check to see if what kind of things can be shipped? (If I can find one, I think I might buy my husband a sword. It’s silly but we thought it would be fun.) 😆 thanks so much!
Hello Hey Nadine, I just bought a speaker from spain that has a europe type plug, and I need to understand exactly which type of device I need to buy to plug it in the United States? Do I need a euro to usa convertor, adapter or transformer? I'm confused. I labeled the power requirement with the details below. Name Of Speaker: LG Dj OL100 XBoom 2000W Portable 200 - 240 V ~ 50/60 Hz 170 W
So what happens if you have a curling wand at 240v but want to use it in North America where it's 120v? Would have been helpful to hear both sides of the spectrum.
almost every newer electrical device is able to handle 110-240v, as it is too complicated to produce two models, they just add different plugs at the end. if you have a 240 and use it at a 120, it will just take longer to get hot. you should only be careful when using a 120 on a 240v, that can be very bad, the other way round doesn't matter too much
Yes, typically 240v devices will just run poorly and not heat up properly on 120v outlets. Whereas 120v devices could get fried, trip breakers, blow fuses, etc. on 240v outlets.
Depends on your straightener. If it's only rated for 240v, then it would probably just take a long time to heat up and might not even heat up to the correct temp. Usually 240v devices just perform badly on 110v and it's less of a safety concern than when it's the other way around.

Don't you just love Nadine!! :)
I didn't expect to learn anything new from this video, but I did! Had no idea there was a difference between /dual voltage and -voltage range

Muchas gracias ❤
Handy video! Already knew about this, but this is a great reference that I can forward to others :)
Physics class flash backs!!!! :-D
Thumps up tho! Never thought about these things, especially the voltage part...
Ok this is the only video that I found that makes any sense! I was probably over thinking but still. Thank you for explaining in detail.
Thanks so much

Mistaya Marie We didn't need any coming from the U.S.
The Wallace Reboot thanks!

Wow thank you for posting this 😱 I don’t want to waste money. Also I love all of your videos, please keep up the great work
Wow, Nadine. You know more about electricity than the average electrician.
Can you add a link to a handy chart/info graphic showing what plug type is used where with what voltage??
Yeah something I heard about plug mobile Charger is different in Poland.
BRILLIANT!🎉😊
I'm jetting off to live in Czech Republic for a while and this is something that I heard about but it really confused me! This video was so helpful thank you!! :) What are your tips for traveling around Europe for cheap?
Best Video!
Wish I would have seen this video 2 month ago before I started travelling😀
So THIS is why my hair clippers vibrated so hard that they fell apart, when i was in Valencia!!

First thing I had to purchase when I was deployed to middle east was an electrical plug...
I have a nume curling wand with 110-240V 50/60Hz, what type of voltage converter do I need? Or do I even need one?
This is very useful! I fried my curlers in Korea a couple weeks ago ;__;
Can you suggest a combined adapter/converter?
So if I have 230V-50/60 Hz 750W would that’s mean I have to use EU 220V to US 110V Travel Flat plug charger adapter convert? 🤔
I really want that coloured adapter 😂 where can I get it?
This is like physics class haha 😂😄

So what happens if you have a curling wand at 240v but want to use it in North America where it's 120v? Would have been helpful to hear both sides of the spectrum.
my blowdryer, for example, worked very slow in that case, blowing 3 times slower than if it was in Europe..
It's the same answer in both cases - you would need to use a voltage converter.
almost every newer electrical device is able to handle 110-240v, as it is too complicated to produce two models, they just add different plugs at the end. if you have a 240 and use it at a 120, it will just take longer to get hot. you should only be careful when using a 120 on a 240v, that can be very bad, the other way round doesn't matter too much

Ok thanks everyone for your help was just hoping it wasn't a safety thing which it sounds like it isn't, thank you!
Legend
What do I use in Thailand and Vietnam?
I always try to buy international hair appliances so they’re good for all my travels. I just search amazon to find them.
Is the Philippines same as Australia in power
So what would happen if i plugged in a 240v hair straightener into a 110v socket?
Depends on your straightener. If it's only rated for 240v, then it would probably just take a long time to heat up and might not even heat up to the correct temp. Usually 240v devices just perform badly on 110v and it's less of a safety concern than when it's the other way around.
Whelp, I guess this explains why my curler got fried. D:
1:40
Not being funny, but, there is nothing I need to know about bringing electrical devices to other countries. I'm not stupid.
Thanks for this Nadine I found this super helpful!
Great video!
