    I'm happy that you mentioned that usually we shouldn't used anti-diarrhea medication. I'm a nurse and I do travelling vaccination and we do not recommend that type of medication because the bug that cause diarrhea needs to get out. instead we recommend that people consults a doctor or a health care specialist and get a antibiotic that they can use when they have there first signs of travelers diarrhea. But I get if you get sick before your 14 hours flight back home anti-diarrhea medication wouldn't be to bad... :)

      You put tea tree oil directly on wounds? I thought that could be harmful?

    • @Dawn_Hannah
      @Dawn_Hannah 8 лет назад +3

      vonHintenHorst The only way it theoretically could be harmful is if it wasn't a pure oil. It's not considered a "hot oil", but if you were worried, you can always use a carrier like coconut or olive oil. It is considered antiseptic and antimicrobial due to high levels of terpinen-4-ol. It's also antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, antiparasitic, and anti-inflammatory.
      If you're interested, there are articles on PubMed regarding the use of Melaleuca Alternifolia(tea tree) medicinally.

    Things to add: Superglue! So many uses, but for 'field medicine' can be used to keep a cut that requires stitches closed! You should also add a bottle of sanitizer or a small bar of soap. Lastly, you need some kind of blade/multitool which can be a lifesaver when it comes to first aid applications - and just general usage.

    A first aid kit is so important-especially if you’re traveling to a country with a different native language or rural areas.
    For carryon travel, I put my first aid liquids and creams in a sandwich size baggie in my 3-1-1 bag, with a card listing the items that go in it. I leave the baggie and card in the 3-1-1 bag, so I never forget to put them back before flying!

    Oh, I just thought of another. I always carry a little bit of duct tape because you can use it in a pinch on cuts and scrapes or use it to tape a finger up and if you get a hole in your bag you can easily fix it too! I wrap tape around a sharpie that lives in my bag. Came in very handy on a trip to the US when my husband's NEW bag ripped at King's Cross...we hadn't even got as far as the airport!

    @nz911911 8 лет назад

    I work as a remote/expedition Paramedic and I am honestly rather impressed with what you have in your kit for a basic first aid kit. I think some additional things to think about: Benadryl... it is a wonder drug. It's also great PO for nausea/upset stomach, insomnia/sleep loss, and even sedation if you need it. The iodine/betadine you have can also be used to treatment questionable drinking water. Other additions to this kit I would l look into is some anti-fungal cream. Things to think about taking your kit further depending on where you are traveling are some dental care items (clove oil, dental cement), a trauma kit if you are out trekking, and your own set of IV tubing/needles as many countries still re-use that type of equipment.

  • @RymVri108
    @RymVri108 8 лет назад

    The superglue is a great suggestion. I usually end up bouldering, which tears up my hands, so I use a hand salve specifically meant for healing (made by Joshua Tree) and I also carry Tiger Balm around with me. Not only is it great for sore muscles, but a little dab under your nose can help clear up sinuses too. I also have a snake bite kit, which most people probably won't need, but for me, it lives in my outdoor bag.

    I actually have an emergency tent in my first aid kit for when I go hiking. Hi Nadine, great video! I would like to suggest if you have an injury/burn/cut, do make sure the area and your hands are clean before applying tegaderm dressing or you will trap and incubate bacteria into the wound. Also, do not forget to monitor the area of trauma and surrounding skin for spreading infection, or if you become systemically unwell, like cold or flu, this could indicate infection in a wound too.

    I take the empty Tylenol travel bottles, take off the labels {put on prescription labels, diarrhea meds, OTC antiacid, Excedrin migraine label} a small bottle of witch hazel & aloe vera for burns, moleskin, medical wrap as I'm allergic to medical tape & band aids.

  • @TinaJackson

    Tegaderm is used to cover IVs in hospitals. I don't believe it's the same "brand" but it is the same "stuff". I used to have to use Fentanyl patches and those suckers just wouldn't stay on. With the help of my pharmacist, he recommended these Tegaderms to help cover the patches and they stayed on through showers and everything!! Warning - check to see if your patch (nicotine or otherwise, needs ventilation before using!!)

  • @besthungergamesfreak

    Don't put a tegaderm over a burn, or any wound. You are just trapping in any germs and not letting your wounds breath! Definitely don't leave them on for a week!

    I know it's for what if situations, but I really don't see how one would need that much with them... maybe it's because I don't do all the things you do or travel a lot outside of cities outside of Europe.
    I would keep the band aids, medical tape and pads, some stomach meds (i think I've had some that has like bacteria to help with an upset stomach), ibuprofen (and like a couple others we have in Sweden called Alvedon which contain paracetamol instead of ibuprofen), and maybe some antibacterial wipes.
    Would add an hydrocortisone salve that would do for a lot of the things you packed!

    Double check that the meds you intend to carry are legal/uncontrolled where you are going..Pay attention to any limits on strengths/quantities....Also be aware that repackaging meds can potentially cause issues if you are searched by Customs etc...In some countries, even in Europe, certain types of common meds such as antidiarrheals and antihistamine are very expensive, so make sure everybody in your party has their own..Finally I would add some clove oil for treating toothache...

    Great video and so nice to see that you have put some energy into knowing what you are keeping in your first aid kit. Here is my ideas about adding stuff. Tweezers, and you can put some cotton pads inside the pill containers to keep them quiet. I always keep some latex gloves ready if I need to assist others and l also keep some Vaseline which is good for closings up small kuts and brushes and a small bottle of vodka (you know the airplane/minibar size) it's for moral and keeping a situation under control.... It more to ad but I choose to think of this kit a dedicated firs aid and I'm assuming that you have a hygiene bag somewhere that will cover the rest. Like nail clippers and some general cleaning supplies Pluss pluss. Happy travels and a great weekend 👍

    Gloves! Antibacterial wipes to was your hands before you touch an open wound. Maybe an elastic bandage for sprains?

    I'd get antinausea prescribed at the walk in for planes and boats in case and chewing gum for altitude/ear issues.

    You should add superglue. There have been times when my family will get really bad cuts and after 6 packs of gauze just close it up with some glue and bandage it.

    Have you ever had issues when bringing the clear containers of pills through airport screening? Just curious, I always thought they had to be in its original packaging.

      +Jamie I put it in check bagged , I've never had issues. But it all small quantities. I keep the more obscure ones in the original packaging.

      +Jamie I travel with a little pill container (it's like one of those weekly organizers for medicine) in my carry-on and it's filled with things like paracetamol, ib, immodium, pepto, etc and I've never been stopped or questoned, but I also took my label maker and labelled each compartment.

    I got a bad burn on my leg from a motorcycle tailpipe when I was out in the rural Philippines, definitely wish I had that second skin stuff at the time.

    I just discovered your channel and I love it! I love traveling and your travel video's are amazing and your tips are also really helpful. Something that's really weird yet special is that I discovered your channel after one of my best friends died... Her name was also Nadine, she loved travelling as well and you just really remind me of her😊❤️

    What about oil of cloves, for toothache and a cold sore cream, the change of diet brings these problems on.

    I would add some hand sanitizer and rubber gloves and tweezers if they're not in your make-up bag. A tiny pair of scissors can be helpful too.

    Amazing video, however I would be careful when using alcohol pads to clean wounds, this can actually destroy good skin cells. Usually rinsing it with sterile water and then applying an anti-bacterial cream is the best first aid for a wound
