There is one slightly humorous aspect to this. Darth Vader lived out the dream of overprotective fathers... he put his daughter's punk boyfriend on ice.
2:12 I think that is the coolest transition ever. The tone of this scene is genuinely terrifying. Watching Han getting frozen, not knowing if he'll survive. The main character's fear, and that badass shot of Vader as the smoke rises.
06:04 is my favorite part. It's so beautiful and so sharp. Gives you the feeling that the hero is here to save the day which is fucking genius when you consider what happens to this hero.
In my honest opinion, the score from 1:30 to 2:30 at least is the best thing John Williams ever wrote. Everytime I hear it I get goosebumps, my hair lifts up and my eyes get little tears in them. Fantastic!
I feel John Williams is definitely more at home when he is doing emotional themes and transitioning between different moods. 7:34 to 8:11 is so well orchestrated. Particularly at 7:48 where it transitions into a feeling of hopelessness - chills. I've said it before and I'll say it again, nobody can or ever will replace John Williams in my opinion when it comes to making a person not just watch a film but feel it through music. ESB is his finest cinematic work and I've listened to just about everything he has done. Of course, that's just my opinion, yours may be different.
I always cry listening to this, Star Wars could be told without dialogue, the music tells the story. Han and Leia's theme is so beautiful. Thank you John Williams, you have changed my life. I dont listen to modern music. Star Wars music from the original trilogy is enough for me. I love you ♡ I know ♡ R.I.P Carrie Fisher, the world will never stop missing you ♡♡
It doesn't ever get mentioned, but I personally love the moment between @4:52 and @5:34. It's got this creepy, foreboding quality and I love the screen wipe to the overhead shot of Luke cautiously making his way through the hallway. Just goes to show how many great moments, large and small, this masterpiece has...
9:30 pure beauty, the height of Star Wars' story right here. Amidst a city in the clouds, a band of heroes desperately trying to rescue their friend from the loathsome bounty hunter While the last jedi, the last hope for the galaxy, enters the lair of the devil.
8:30 to the end is just perfect I love the small part of Boba Fett's theme starting at 7:30 too, it's so mysterious and evil just like the character, great work by John Williams as per
4:17 and 8:29 the wonderful and threatening theme of Boba Fett, I hope it returns for his series 9:54 Han’s theme from Classic Battlefront 2! I love hearing the movie tracks hearing the real origins
I remember hearing 5:30 to 5:50 whenever I'd play as Rebel on Cloud City in classic battlefront. And yeah Han's theme in classic Battlefront 2 gives me nostalgia chills.
The whole 'escape of Boba Fett' sequence has echos of the imperial march all over it, without actually playing its theme. Just like Vader seems to be around every corner in the cloud city without appearing on the screen. Brilliant!
That1Guy someone should realy extend that part of the score my fav part aside frim when chewy attacls the stormtrooper and han tells him to calm tfo lol
I really needed this, the soundtrack. Been feeling down lately and the music always makes feel better. I've loved this (I have the LP) from 1980 and love to listen to it. I'm moving so had to pack the LP's away but I can still listen to it thank to you all. 🙂
Reminds me so much of traversing gall spaceport as dash rendar in shadows of the empire (gall spaceport- that hour long level that ends with fighting a difficult epic battle with boba fett- followed by boba fett in his slave 1! That game was fuckin awesome!!) ig-88 was so scary as a kid in the previous level and instead of a breather, you get this in the next level.
IntellectualEgo no you’re definitely not. It’s some of the darkest, crunchiest Williams cluster chords mashed up with the stately and sinister “boba Fett theme.” Love that it comes up even edgier after 7:40, too. Seriously that part has some Bite to it.
6:34 Love the foreboding version of the Yoda theme. All Yoda's warnings of grave danger have lead to this pivotal choice that Luke must make whether to follow his friends into the dark unknown and still makes a final plea. 6:45 You must not go! 6:51 TOO LATE!!!
When Luke realized his Jedi training was less about force abilities and more about the mental and emotional discipline required to stand calmly against his greatest fears. Was this battle always a real world scenario, a part of that training which Yoda saw as a teachable opportunity?
To me, this is the best track in the movie, and I was delighted when the special editions came out in the late 90s...vinyl could hold only so much back in the day and despite the original vinyl edition being 2 LPs, it still did not feel complete.
I will never understand people who don't LOVE this movie. So great on so many levels and one of the best sequels of all time. SW was very popular when it came out and a lot of movies have a crappy sequel to follow up that kind of success. Not Star Wars.
One thing I've never understood about this scene is that when Han Solo gets lowered into the chamber his hands are bound in front of him in handcuffs that appear to be too tough to break free from (we would have seen it otherwise, I'd have thought). Despite this, after he is risen from the chamber and is shown to be in carbon freeze his hands are now either side of him, palms up, by the side of his head and there's no trace of the handcuffs. So, can anyone please explain to me how this happened?
Late reply but I was watching the film last night, the stormtroopers undo his handcuffs right before they lower him in, it’s a blink and you’ll miss it detail with all the emotion in the scene
10:27 *suspenseful jingle* *Luke realizes he failed his test* 10:28 *Darth Vader’s theme plays* Vader: Luke, you have failed me for the first time.... Do not fail again...
The score is so iconic I can see and hear the movie--dialogue, effects, everything--in my head.
Same with the Secret at the end of the film, because there was nothing like it in motion picture history.
Same

It's boba fett theme in BF2
Always reminds me of the trailer for RotS when Palpatine is giving his speech to Anakin about learning new power.

He also played an Imperial Officer who was present during Leia, Lando, and Chewy's escape. I've always found that SUPER interesting honestly.

Yes same! That part is underrated
People who saw this back in 1980 must have seen Darth Vader as nearly the most evil thing in the world.
