yingandyangliving really lovely recipe Moon. I like my soups also lightly flavored with soy and sesame oil. I will have to keep an eye out for this seaweed at the market.
My mom had 6 kids, and whenever she gave birth, she ate this seaweed soup for one month straight, every day -- that's the Korean way! Dearest Moon, I just ADORE you and your mom! I am probably biased because my mom is from Seoul and I'm half Korean, haha, but still, your seaweed soup brought me back to my childhood when I ate seaweed soup all the time!

I love this soup and even though I am very Americanized, I grew up eating this soup. We ate it almost every week, and it's still one of my all time favorite soups!
This is really delicious, simple recipe but very healthy. Soy sauce gluten free is what my mom like because she has an allergy with gluten and taking medication. This is perfect. Send my regards to your Mom. She look gorgeous!
hey, I just saw some dried seaweed in a store today, it looked a bit like dried herbs like parsley or something. what is that used for? can you use that just like other herbs in a meal? or does it have some special "purpose"? :)
like parsley? Himmm....I am trying to think what seaweed this might be? I wish you can send me a pic... I have a show coming up where I talk about different kinds of seaweed!
Yeah it was like small pieces of dried seasweed... It just reminded me of parsley or other dried herbs. I don't know when I can go to that store again, but when I do I'll look what it was :)
Please tell me what Brand of Wakame seasweed to buy. The kind i have gitten the last couple of tumes have been SUPER SLIMEY no matter how many times i wash or cook... still EXTREMELY SLIMEY :(. I dont mind somewhat slimey. But i am talking about wayyyy too much. That cant be the way its supposed to be.

Trading My Sorrows I understand that for those who did not grow up with seaweed, it would be slimey. I never thought of it that way because I have been eating it since I was a child so I guess it’s all in our experience 💚😊❤️
Yin & Yang Living Soo so true... i live in South Mississippi soo i do understand what you are saying. We LOVE our pots of boiled Okra also a very slimey vegetable... i also love Okra stir fried w onions till brown and tender... a bit less slimely that way but sooo good as a side dish 🤗💝 that why i love soo many different cultures of cuisine.. i hope one day to try mealworm tacos from Mexico 👍👍. I could soo sooooo live in another country just fine because i dont mind trying different foods... anyways. Thank you again for my answer about Wakame. Great shows as always and have a blessed day 🤗👍💕
Trading My Sorrows I like southern food but I admit that I am not into ochre for that very reason. Give yourself credit for being open minded about other cultures and foods 💖😊💚
seeweed contains a lot of Jod, which could be a problem for people having inflammation of the thyroid gland. this is the same seeweed used for suchi california rolls, right?
+maryam gransar I am not 100% sure if it's that seaweed because the sushi sheets are flat and pressed where as this seaweed comes in loose leaf style but it might be the same kind. Unfortunately in the package, it doesn't say what kind of seaweed, but will look into this and if I find answer, I will let you know.
maryam - no, they are different. This seaweed is much thicker and has a different flavor. It's English name is Sea Mustard. The seaweed used in California rolls is also known as laver in English.
I need to scale this down, as I can't eat so much soup by myself. In addition there is a problem. The high amount of iodine in seaweed isn't very healthy, when your body isn't used to it on a regular basis and alas mine isn't. Still I love the taste of wakame.

I'm a male and I'm 33. Is this soup good for ME as well or is this best just for women to consume?
good for men too
