Hey Angelica... I just put this casserole in the oven. I made a few changes. I added a half of bell pepper to the onion ground beef mixture, I used milk in the sauce and I added black olives on top of the cheese layer. Can't wait to eat it. (Mouth watering) Thank you so much for what you do. I love your videos and your recipes!!! ❤
Hi A.!!! Your casserole looks really delish. My friend Bonnie ♡ made one similar to your recipe but she used beef broth with tomato soup. Anyways I would give your recipe a try...YUMS!!!...Nice Video!!!...🦋
Angelica, these days I always have the Knorr chicken bouillon powder around thanks to your example. So I'm never without chicken stock in some form or other. Anyway this looks awesome! I'll have to try it ... I'd even eat it with biscuits and either a salad or some sauteed green beans on the side. I have potatoes I need to use ... gold but I'm sure they'll work here. Gonna have to try this this coming weekend!
These beef and potato casseroles are easy, delicious and comforting. Done one about the same but for ease, just put in a can of cream of mushroom, chicken or celery...whatever ya got on hand in it, spice it up and add plenty of cheese and YUM!! In this terrible heat, I don't cook anything in the oven. A crockpot or Insta pot would definitely do the job too! Hugś from Texas!😍😊
Your dinner looks amazing! My mom used to make a dish similar to what you made. She would par boil the russet potatoes slice up enough to cover the baking dish. She would leave the remainder of potatoes in the pot to continue cooking. She would cook the ground beef, onions and garlic in a skillet. When the ground beef was almost done she would cut up some stewed tomatoes in the skillet and finish cooking the mixture. Lastly she would take the remaining potatoes from the pot and make mashed potatoes. She would then put the mashed potatoes on top of the mixture and place in the oven. It so good! I don't know if the dish was called shepards pie during the sixties....but that's what it's called today. Keep on cooking young lady, your an excellent cook. I sincerely hope a lot of young people are tuned in to your channel to learn from you. God bless you ❤❤❤
Hello Simple Mama, thanks for sharing . Your delicious potato and beef casserole . So simple to make . And delicious looking . You and family enjoy your dinner .
Beef and potatoes casserole has been a family staple for years. But instead of making a cream sauce, we just used a can of cream of mushroom or cream of chicken condensed soup with milk. And add in a dash of worscheshire sauce to the soup mixture just before pouring over the meat and potatoes. Also, rather than just cooking diced onions with the meat, we would layer sliced rings of onion with the potatoes, then add the meat and the soup. Cook in the oven until the potatoes are cooked through and fork tender, then top with the cheese, put back in the oven until browned on top and bubbly all around.
I make something similar with beef cubes simmered in beer and onions until tender and alternate potato slices with beef cubes,Béchamel white sauce and grated cheese in 2 layers ,bake. It's a family favorite comfort food
Growing up, my Mom would make this at least once a week, served with home made flour tortillas! And the tortillas were not 4 or 5 inches they were always 7 inches diameter! Miss my Mom.
I love these kind of potatoes haven't had them in over 35-40 years. Basically I was a little girl my grandmother and some of my aunts periodically would make these kinds of dishes I love Morton's nature's seasoning blend is really all purpose you can season any type of meat or any kind of vegetable dish it's a lot better but not over salty. Specially when doing ground beef turkey lamb chicken fish curry goat if you're into that. I love saltine avocado oil or macadamia nut oil just to give it a sense of butter in this naturally
Ground beef and potatoes make a good breakfast burrito, too. Brown meat one pan, cook potato another. When both done, add one pan to the other, season salt, dash cumin for background taste, onion & garlic powder, couple tablespoons tomato paste, maybe half cup water at most. Stir all ingredients together, simmer till most water absorbed. Roll it up in a burrito to whatever size your appetite is at and enjoy! Just like 'ama used to make.
I made this the other night. It was soo delicious. Everyone in the family loved it. Most definitely making this again. Thank you Simply Moma Cook for sharing.
off topic but i just found your other channel and watched the ghost story video😮 it was so great. thanks for sharing! 😁 it scared me in a good way lol 🙌🏼😂
When my kids were still home & I was babysitting my nephew, I made this meal a lot. It was easy, inexpensive and they all loved it. That in itself is a miracle 😂 The only thing I did differently was add a can of cream of chicken soup to the sauce. I did try it once (kids thought experimenting with our food was great😂), with a packet of beef gravy👎🏼yuck was the verdict on that. They also didn’t care for the gravy made from Better than Bullion. So they’re still hooked (all in their 30’s now too), on that Cambells Cream of Chicken, it just goes good with lean ground beef & a lot of onions. Now if you french fry your potatoes and use hamburger & onions w/beef gravy👍🏼 That’s a winner. All the crispyness of the french fry must be what makes the difference? Oh and it doesn’t get baked. Just pour the hamburger gravy over the finished fries. Like poutine only I could never get cheese curds😟
Wow so why are there any negative comments? This is a nice SIMPLE recipe that literally has things we all have in our kitchen. My sister sent this to myself and my mom. My mom LOVES this and so did my brothers. My sister added a scoop of sour cream on top of hers when finished. I’m trying this tonight, if you can season food this will turn out good. Thanks for sharing this simple recipe ❤
Myself that looks really good, but what I would do is, I would cook the potatoes like you did cooked the ground beef like you did then I do a layer of potatoes, a layer of hamburger and so forth as a cream and the cheese all don’t forget about cheese and then Wala Put the cheese in between everything thanks this is cindy from Scarborough Ontario Canada
Mama...I live alone so thilose small recipes are PERFECT for me personally, but I also work in an Assisted living facility, we have 16 residents... My question is: can you show me recipes made for a larger crowd? I live by your small ones, but need big ones too. No problem if you can't. 16 plus 2-3 staff...so, 20 people everyday..it's HARRRD TO JUDGE AMOUNTS, jussayin 😮
Looks delicious! But why dirty up a casserole dish? Put everything back into the cast iron pan and cook it in the oven. Why dirty up q casserole dish? Maybe for presentation purposes? Cast iron is so much easier to clean. It needs to soak for a little bit, but I cook all of my casseroles in my cast iron skillet. The leftovers go into a smaller dish.
This looks delicious, but the high fat content would make my gallbladder very angry! 👿 I have had to cut out delicious casseroles, my beloved Tex Mex dishes (very difficult for any native Texan!), fried foods, and all those great cheesy, creamy dishes. Sadness. 😭
MAMA (OY THAT FEELS FUNNY CALLING SOMEONE YOUNGER THAN ME MAMA)..... DID YOU AD A PINCH OF NUTMEG TO THE WHITE SAUCE? IT DOES ADD A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT FLAVOR. 😉

I really like that you tell people to use what is on hand bc that is what real cooking is about.
Thanks for saving my dinner tonight… great meal for those of us on a budget and needing to use what’s on hand!
Looks yummy! Like a spin on cottage pie! 😋
One of my faves, never made it with the cream sauce,a must try.
I have all those ingredients..Most definitely gonna give it a shot.😊
Reminds me of a simple shepherds pie! I’m going to try adding a layer of carrots and peas 😋
I made it like that once, it was yummy
I love her recipes she’s very inspiring. She cooks real food.
I've always thought that baking dish is so gorgeous.
It is!

You think some steak sauce or BBQ sauce would be okay between the beef & potatoes?
It's great to add a splash of soy sauce to ground turkey or hamburger meat .. it adds flavor! Season as normal... You're welcome😊
Looks marvelous! Thank you!

I made this and it turned out EXCELLENT! The only think I would change is more seasoned potatoes.
I’m making this one , yummy thank you

Simple, looks good. Will try. Use less salt. When sautéing onions I would add few mushrooms, celery and bell peppers. Colorful. Be creative

I made it! It was good🎉I added in bell pepper and cilantro.didn’t have cream but 2% milk worked since my roux was kinda thick. 😊
This looks so yummy. And if I use gluten free flour my whole family will be able to eat it. 😋
Love potatoes and hamburger, this is a keeper .Thanks! 😊❤
Look so delicious thanks for the recipe!😋✅✅ 6:33
Hrmmmm.... very different than the original version of this you did a while back. I think I like that original one better. It was much saucier.
Re Wala - think you mean Voila, which means “there it is; there you are”.
If I want to bring this to a potluck, how long would I cook it in a crockpot for?
Do you have an Amazon store where you get you spices? Or info on where to buy them
