Does this song make anyone else shed some tears? Divorced last year..really messy situation. I've lost a best friend, many beautiful women, and am at odds with different family members. Does this make me a loser or is this just life and the human experience? It's a painful one. I remember the more innocent and carefree better times...always in the past it unfortunately seems.
Sorry man. I went through it too in my 40's. Anxiety and loneliness through the roof and no one understands. Just don't isolate. Get out and enjoy just being with yourself or you'll grab hold of the wrong person to comfort you. It takes about 2 years to get over a divorce. Same as a death. It's the death of your marriage. It's a whole change to your life. Hang in there it gets better.
It’s a fantastic song. I was only 2 when it was released but somehow missed it during my teen years but recently discovered it and fell in love with it. Trying to learn to play it on guitar. Great campfire song. Great lyrics. Sorry to hear about your troubles. You are definitely experiencing life and it’s not unique, unfortunately. We all seem to go through something. Just try to remember that what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. If it’s too painful to listen to it then maybe step away for awhile. Time definitely heals all wounds. Good luck.
Duane Allman once sang that, " I've spent so much time feeling guilty". No doubt all these events, and feelings can give you the blues. You can't go back and change it, if you could, maybe you would. I also heard someone say, all you can do with the past is "keep bringing it up". All being said, don't beat yourself up over it. You are gonna have better days . Hang in there!!
Danny O'Keefe did it great. He should, he wrote it. My ELVIS did it too. In fact, my ELVIS lived it. Have you ever heard ELVIS sing this? You should if you haven't. RIP ELVIS. I love and miss you every day for 47+ years now. Good Time Charlie... 🥺🙏💜⚡️⚡️
This song when it comes to the chorus, I practically feel a breeze touching my pale cheek and I get chilly in an euphoria. There is no other song that gives me the feel I feel, so this is one of the most important songs in my life.
What a beautiful soul so thankful for discovering you in 1973 and have followed you ever sence!! My heart and soul are bigger and brighter because of you. Thanks my beautiful soul brother
This song was on top 40 radio fall of ‘72 when I was 13. It left an indelible impression on my young soul. There were so many great songs on that AM radio: Superstition, The First Time ( ever I saw your face ), it never rains in Southern California, and many more.
This is one of the most memorable, poignant songs ever. I grew up listening to this beautifully simple, potent song and have never stopped loving it. Thanks for writing this one, sir. It's a classic.
This song takes me back to the 70’s, out of high school and going to college. My mind was in a wanderlust though about going to New Mexico. Crazy time.
This song takes me back to exactly a warm summer afternoon, playing with friends - one kid had his dad’s transistor radio and this song would play. Peaceful, care free ! Beautiful.
I’ve seen all kinds of performers, but Danny is about the finest I’ve had the pleasure to watch and listen to. The lyrics, the guitar and the presence of the man are inspirational. Come back to Australia Danny.
In Seattle in the early 70's it was so depressed there were signs that read "The last person to leave town Turn out the lights" Danny was living in Seattle at that time...go figure! What beautiful music!
Thanks for writing this, Mr O'Keefe. This song has helped me through some rough times and I think that it's cool so many people have seen fit to record it.
I remember when this song first came out. It was my 5th 45 I bought for our record player. I Played it over and over. Of course I was singing some of the wrong lyrics, but it sounded good to me lol. The 70's was so laid-back and peaceful. What a Great song. Rock on Danny O'Keefe!,✌️
This song is also one of my best friends, Danny. Although I was born in 1956, I still believe that I have known it from the cradle. So many legends, like you, have cut your song, but NONE can put it out there like you. It is hard to imitate the master sculptor.
When I play for my personal friends I ask for requests and every time first two songs they ask for is goodtime charlie and the road. All of em hate country but love those songs
Hey Danny, I've always loved this song since I was in my early 20's. Now I'm 70 and I have come to feel that the "Town" is "Youth" and the fact that some people have trouble "leaving it" behind. And they suffer for it.
One of those songs that just stays right there in my memory, so great, it's got to be by Danny too, , , his voice, great performance here, that Larrivee guitar sounds wonderful and his fingerstyle playing is nice. I play guitar and tried to learn this by ear and boy did I ever have it wrong, , , gonna have to study up to this video now!
I got the blues too. I can say this does make me feel better in the aspect of how much better a place the world was when this song was peeking. Thank you for the post and most of all thank you Danny.
Priceless
I knew Danny when he was writing this. He was seeing my roommate. Great song.
Sweet memories of life.
I'm kinda pissed that today was the first time I heard of this guy and this song. Better late than never.
Danny O'Keefe is a national treasure. Singer, songwriter, humanitarian.
Agreed. This song has such feeling. With things the way they are now. This song hits hard.
@@just2muchfunfun Agree 💯and things are worse today than they were nine months ago!
A masterpiece: Then and Now.

One of my Dads favorites.
God I Miss Him :(
You had a good dad then....I cried like a baby when my father passed, you never know how much you miss someone until they’re gone ❤️

Kudos to Danny for his opening words. Very refreshing after so many prima donna "artists" who complain about or even refuse to play their hits.
