As a Spaniard living in the UK enamoured of Greek mythology, this chat was a real treat! You both have such a fun and vibrant approach to classics and I love how your friendship and mutual support came through during this conversation 💜🌷🌟 (P.S. for Isa - tus posts de los dioses griegos en el arte son de mis favoritos de la vida ☺️🎨💎)
I loved this talk with you and Isa!! I read this book earlier this year and I very much enjoyed it and I think my younger self would have absolutely adored it! After finishing it I read some reviews and I was stunned how much hate this book got because the story was so enjoyable!! So sad that the marketing was done so badly for it. I think it really is a great book to jump into the world of ancient Greece and learn more about it and pick up more retellings afterwards.
Going to read this book 📕 then come back and watch the video in the next week or so prayers and blessings for you and your family love your Aussie family friend John ❤❤❤
Completely fed up of the 'telling a greek myth with a different slant for some easy critic points and the Madeleine miller readers' slant in publishing at the moment. Theres some real rubbish outside of miller, natalie haynes (who has been doing classics stuff for a long time and not just joined the gravy train) and pat barker.
@@MoAnIncwhich is why they are good at writing believable characters from this period -they understand it and have a more realistic chance of looking at the world through their eyes and their moral values. It's not just ancient Greek fiction it's most historical fiction. If the author doesn't understand the era then the can't create something believable. If I'm reading a novel about the ancient world I don't expect women to be like me but a good writer can make you empathise with a character you have nothing in common with. A lazy writer just applies modern values to a character and it really doesn't work for me.
Well maybe people don't think she should sing lies to the sea. I think the sea deserves the unvarnished truth.

We’ll all the people you listed are literally trained classicists who can read and unpack the meaning behind the ancient languages
