    Try using a fine leaded crystal glass, which is more fragile and is more prone to resonance. Then you put a straw inside the glass. As soon as you're hitting the right frequency, you'll be able to see the straw bounce around. Maintain that frequency and it should shatter.
    Edit: Just saw your part 2. Toothpick also works well as a visual guide!

    put a straw in the wine glass. Make sure its crystal. Anyway, with the straw in the glass, the closer you get to the wine glass' resonant frequency, the straw will start bouncing around like crazy. Once you find the bouncy frequency, it's all about amplitude and consistency with your note.

    Maybe try putting a straw in the glass. When you have the right pitch you will see the straw vibrate and that tells you that you are on the right frequency. Then I am guessing it is just a case of getting it loud enough? On Mythbusters the guy had the glass actually touching his lips because getting enough decibels is key and the loudness will diminish with distance, so maybe get closer (if you are brave enough). I don't think going an octave higher helps, it's whatever frequency matches the glass's resonant frequency.

    If you really want to make it work :
    - Use a glass in criystal, not regular glass
    - Get closer
    - You have to match the resonance frequency of the glass (not just any loud sound).
    For the last part, it's easier if you put a straw in the glass. The closer you are to the corrct frequency, the harder the straw will vibrate. Then you'll have to keep the frequency and raise the volume of your voice.

    I think it's an octave lower instead of higher. Try to hit the glass with a wood stick or so, so the sound is more clear and lasts longer. Then you can check the modulations that the interference between the glass and your voice make. The mix of the two sound waves creates a wavy sound. When the frequency of this wave rises, your sound is closer to the glasses sound in terms of frequency. Also since the sound of the glass is at its resonance frequency, each wave that hits the glass on that frequency will be in phase with the already vibrating glass, therefore amplifying the movement of the glass making it vibrate more. You can see this vibration by just putting a light object like a straw inside it, which you will see bounce around the more the vibration increases.

    This will only work with crystal wine glasses. Its also a lot easier to break them if you hold the glass by the base and put it right up to your mouth. Singing into the side of it. Also, a good tip is to put a loose straw in the glass, it will start to vibrate when you are close to the proper frequency.

    Flick the glass with your fingernail gently and listen carefully to the ringing sound. This is the resonant frequency of your glass, and you will have to match and sustain this pitch to cause it to break. It may help you to hold onto the pitch if you hum it softly to yourself even after the glass has finished ringing.

    You need the sound frequency produced by the glass (vibration) to match that of your voice, you also need the wave length (note) to be the same in both, all at the same time. Now, when you tap the glass with your finger, the sound produced starts at a certain sound frequency and drops immediately. To do all this you have less than 1 second, you can adjust later but it gets even more complicated. That's why, although it's not impossible, it's extremely difficult.

    Step 1) Closer to the glass.
    Step 2) The goal is to hit the fundamental of the glass. Singing 46 octaves above the fundamental is actually reducing the possibility of the glass breaking. 😂 lower notes produce stronger waves then higher notes with the same amplitude. The closer to the resonant freq the better.
    Step 3)
    Hold the glass with 2 fingers instead of putting it on the table. The induced vibration is being damped by the table.
    Step 4) safety glasses

  • @cathyshepard253
    @cathyshepard253 5 месяцев назад

    You just need to match the resonant frequency of the glass, and do that at a high enough volume to get it to break.
    Explanation: The resonant frequency is the frequency (pitch) you hear when you tap the glass. This is the natural way the object (wine glass) wants to vibrate and have sound bounce off of it, which is why it makes that specific sound. When you match that natural vibration it cause the glass to vibrate the most, and if it has enough power (I.e volume) it can vibrate enough to break.

    You are probably able to, just find the right pitch and stay in a note for longer to increase the aplitude of the vibrations of the glass, which is what is going to make it break. Try to match the exact sound it makes when you strike it, don't try to go much higher

    Try putting a drinking straw in it and then gradually change the frequency of your voice to find the right resonance for that particular glass. As the glass vibrates, the straw will bounce off from its mouth. It gets more excited when you hit the right resonance.
    edit: For safety purposes, I recommend wearing goggles when performing this to protect your eyes when the glass breaks.

  • @daniebelfry
    @daniebelfry Год назад +64

    You have to match the exact note the glass emits. Even then if the glass doesnt already have micro cracks on a molecular level it will take forever to break it. The vibration breaks it thats why matching the exact note it emits is so important. Keep working on it it'll take a while but it will break if you do this.

    • @1stNickname
      @1stNickname Год назад +1

      She uses the wrong type of glass, breaking cheap thick glass like that only works if there is already a microscopic small crack in it, otherwise she'd have to use leaded crystal glass, because that works best, pure crystal glass also works tho.

    When breaking glass it's important to know how the glass is made to know its composition and finding the ideal pitch is crucial also, not only to make the glass vibrate but to eventually shatter it going too high or too low will be pointless.
