Being scared is understandable. If you're under warranty, definitely wait until warranty expires. You can buy your parts over time, check for online deals (fuelmotousa.com has online sales periodically). Start with the tailpipe (Torquer 450s) that is an easy thing to install. You'll get there....
That bike sounds great ! I have a 2019 107 Electra glide standard looking at a stage 2 and glad I saw your video. I need that sound & performance !!! 🤙🏻
Harley has recognized the problem and has issued a service bulletin to upgrade the oil pump with part # 62400247. If you are doing great, that's awesome! safe travels..... Thanks for watching.
@@newazhorizons9945 I do understand that they are not the greatest pumps but my experience has been fine so far. I am however planning on upgrading to the new style pump this winter.
As someone who’s had the sumping issue in my 2017, it’s a bad design. Even if you aren’t having noticeable issues, that motor is struggling, you just have nothing to compare it too. Updated to the 2020 HD pump and it completely cleared up.
@@freebehindbars8654 I ride it hard with guys that have built engines and it definitely is not struggling. Not saying that the pump is the best it can be , but it is doing its job.
I'm getting ready to do a s&s 475G kit in my 2018 fatboy 114 valentines week can't wait Just hoping after I tear it apart that the crank runout isn't over spec or ill have to run chain instead of gears too bad there isn't a way to check before hand without tearing it apart as I don't want it apart for a while waiting for parts I like to be prepared If I have to run the chain at least I can put the gears up in my man cave to look cool lol
Sounds like a nice project. My experience has been the runout is always in good shape, .001 - .004. In fact, I've never had one that was out of spec. My advice is checking the oil pump to ensure it's the upgraded version. 17s and 18s had the suspect oil pump. Easiest check is to count the lobes on the scavenge (gerotor) gear 8 vs 10. 8 lobes is the upgraded version.
That’s awesome bro I’m glad you got it done. I did the same research as you did and I also did it on a budget to save on labor cost. The o my difference is I let them tune it rather than the fp3 as I was told it was useless for anything more that a stage 1 🤷🏽♂️. I have purchased a fp3 before but It was married to another bike I sold. Good job and thanks for sharing the vid.
Nice, glad you had some success in getting your bike dialed in. Yes, a custom tune ( Dynojet) is better than a downloaded map. However, if you are on a budget, you don't lose a lot with a stage 2 and lower with a FP3 w/auto tune. Thanks for sharing....
No need for head work on a M8 Even the screaming eagle head that comes in the 131 kit only flows 10 CFMs more if you want more power change your exhaust to d&d billet cat change your air cleaner to a T-man no loss in tune with a power vision 💪🏾
Awesome! I'm considering that cam next year. I'm going to put a stage I on in 2 months but wondering is it worth the upgrade. I ride two-up about 70% I'm out on my bike and worry about a big fuel milege loss. How is yours? But you may not ride two up.
My 2017 stock would get 40 MPG ish, with my upgrades I'm at 38 mpg. However, I have a very rich tune to keep my engine as cool as possible. I live in AZ so keeping the engine is my priority. My rich tune is keeping my engine 12-15 degrees cooler. Is it worth it? My personal opinion, it's night and day difference with a stage 2. Especially when riding two up. Good luck!
I have same bike in gray denim, I just ordered a vance FP3, and I just installed the same screaming eagle air you have... I am still on stock internals and exhaust but I plan to do exhaust next and then considering a cam. I will prob go S&S cam plate, cam, oil pump and cuffs but this is a great idea too.... save me some $$ is the oil pump you used part # 62400247 as that's what I have written down as the latest to upgrade to
Yes, that is the oil pump upgrade. Sounds like you have a good plan, a few more dollars in the cam plate. Check out FuelMotousa.com, they have great service.
Looking to save money on my Stage 2 good info on the oil pump they have good prices. Wondered what brand of cam plate tool did you use I might not use it a lot but the price is reasonable, it's all about the money H-D Hundred Dollars
Attached is the tool that I purchased on Ebay. There are many tools out there, but you'll want the tool that sets the bearing to the right depth, without any question. The tool that I purchased has a hard stop when it's to the right depth. www.ebay.com/ipp/334191504293?transactionId=1935501053014&_trksid=p2047675.l48352
I also have the FP3 and just did the stage 1 on my 2018 RGS. Did you have any issues with dialing in the 475 cam with this tuner. Was hearing i may have to go to another tuner like PV3? Thanks for the video and hope you can help me on tuner!!
S&S cam is a very popular cam and V&H has a lot of data to provide the proper map with a large variation of exhaust. So, the FP3 is adequate for a stage 1&2 (cam upgrade). V&H has good customer service team to help as well. You can upload your data from your FP3 and they'll send you an update based on your upgrades and riding style. So, you won't have a problem with a cam upgrade using the FP3. Having said that, you'll never beat a custom tune (power vision) but it's obviously more costly and more appropriate with increased motor work e.g. head-work. Send me a message if continue to have issues.
Question. I have same year but an ultra classic and I ride hard with 2 up would you still recommend that cam? Listening to everyone I worried about the bottom end torque with 2 up . Your thoughts?
1st, I would say be careful with what you hear on youtube. I would say most youtubers are giving you 3rd hand info. Especially when they talk about a 2 into 1 pipe (trendy). Anyway, back to your question, the S&S 475 is a good balanced cam for torque and HP. You should get 109/110 hp and 115/116 ft/lbs. of torque. You could go with a "torque cam" and get a little more torque, but not a big difference for the average rider. I would recommend the Woods WM8-22x cam which is a torque cam, if you really want the best possible torque. You should get great early torque 117-120 ft/lbs but lose a little HP 105/106 HP. For me I wanted a balance of good rumble, torque and HP. Also, the Woods WM8-22X is very quiet.
Are these dyno proven, rear wheel numbers? I'm new to the Harley world, but have a lot of experience with other brands. In my experience, the "other guys" use rear wheel numbers, and most would trash talk Harley guys for using "estimated" crank numbers to inflate numbers. I'm genuinely curious, as I'm looking at possible buying my late FIL's '19 Street Glide. My last bike was a Victory with their "hot" factory 106/6. The numbers I'm seeing online show the 107 is making about 80-ish rwhp and 100 ft/lbs, which is lacking when compared to the 106. Just curious how well the M8 is responding to mods.
"Harley guys" have earned their criticism for advertising HP incorrectly. Even with RWHP, if not calculated correctly is suspect. I'm fortunate to have access to a Dynojet 250i and I've been testing regularly to get the best combo of rich mix/HP. So, I've not been after RWHP, but the best tune to keep the bike cool with the best possible RWHP. I would recommend visiting FuelmotoUSA.com, they have hundreds of M8 test cases. Thanks for watching!
The HD service bulletin M1450 states 2017 - 2019 Touring models need the upgrade. I know personally some 2018s have the upgraded oil pump. I've disassembled some mfg. after 10/2018 that have the upgrade. The upgraded oil pump has an 8 lobe gerotor vs 10 lobes on the older model. part number change and a tab on the housing. To tell when it was mfg. usually there are quality inspection tags on various parts on your bike e.g., gas tank, side covers, seat, etc... that have assembly dates. Not scientific, but close enough to tell approximately when it was built.
Great video! How’s the bottom end, like from takeoff with the S&S 475? I installed the S&S 465 on my 107 softail standard, and the torque from takeoff was insane. My friend had a 114 with the 475, and that thing was pretty lazy at lower RPM. Upward of 3K RPM, and in was FAST.
Yes, the 465 is torque cam. It's going to have a slight edge (5%) over the 475 out of the gate. The 475 sounds tougher at idle is more balance between increased torque and HP. The 475 has 10% more HP (top end) than the 465. So, it just depends on what you're looking for torque (465) or tough sound and HP (475).
@@newazhorizons9945 thank you for the reply. I just purchased a new 2021 Road glide in February with the 107, and looking to stage 2 the thing. Might go Zipper’s 468 this time around. Seems like an in the middle of the 465, and 475 cam. Keep up the great work.
