This is a great representation of Psychoanalysis. I've done CBT and did not find it useful for me, very text book and I find the therapist generally lacks intuition, or empathy towards their patient - the just see a series of symptoms as opposed to treating the root issue, its very much like a bandaid approach. This is just based on personal experience. I have spoken to some people who do CBT and it works for them quite well.

a psychologist is not a friend you talk to. for that, find someone you don't know and listen to you, but that's not science. a psychoanalyst treatment could last for years, while your mind deteriorates due to psychological problems. be very careful with that

The belief that there is an identifiable "root issue" is a modern superstition.

I am doing CBT currently and I am terribly dissappointed. There is no room to go into my past, whenever I try to talk about my issues the same concepts apply. So after a couple of sessions you could use CBT techniques without a therapist. It is alsways the same: I believe XY, lets try to do an expirement changing my usual behaviour and see if it holds true. This does work, but why do I need a therapist for this. It was fresh and new the first couple months, but now it is tedious and predictable. All my problems stem from my past. All I need is a therapist to tell me, that my problems are valid in my situation. My CBT therapist doesnt do this at all. It feels very unempathetic. Everybody probably knows the feeling of just wanting to be listenend to, but than somebody offers you a practical solition instead. It feels very often tone-deaf. It helped me somewhat but we reached a point were we are just beating a dead horse. I still use CBT techniques in my day to say life and will continue to do so. But I dont need a guy explaining them to me over and over again.

It's a modern superstition that mental problems have some identifiable cause in someone's history or that you need to find something out about yourself to improve.
It's so deeply woven into our pop culture that most people really believe mental health is about some adventurous journey into the subconscious.

CBT has very good long term outcomes. Check out Fonargy 2005. A good CBT Therapist will appear fluid, at ease and it doesn’t feel ‘clunky’. Also no clinical psychology program in the UK or USA training incorporates psychoanalytic training 🤔. Also schema focussed CBT and/or schema therapy is a form of CBT and requires many sessions.

This video contains a lot of misinformation. E.g. Patients with chronic health conditions receive on-going CBT via the NHS in conjunction with their clinical treatment if requred, and CBT became populare after the mid 20th century following behaviourism, where it was acknowledged that language learning is innate, not learned, in humans, and therefore the empirical nature of Skinner's behavioural theories was shown to be limited in terms of its ability to deal with consciousness, and self-reporting (linguistics) of thought processes. Equally, Freud and arch-Freudians' theories have been shown to be vitally flawed over the years.

This is a misrepresentation of CBT

Definitely. CBT has much better long term outcomes than psychoanalysis on some mental health disorders.
