@@juniper1350 lol no he rlly didnt, MAYBE at first MAYBE but I doubt that too. He saw her as if she was his daughter just like Vander thought of Vi, Powder and everyone else as his own. Later in the series you even see Silco finally understand how Vander felt and why he was willing to give up on Zaun. He too couldn’t just say yes when his wish was right in front of his eyes, because he cared about Jinx. Everything he said that people think he was saying just to manipulate her, were all things he himself as a person believed in and thought of to be true. He himself also told himself the things he was saying to Jinx, when Vander “betrayed” him.

    • @anderzdraconian1276
      @anderzdraconian1276 Год назад +10

@@juniper1350 Silco's goal with this plan was to kill Vander and all the kids so he can take over the undercity. "Vander the coward fled town with his kids and was never seen again" That plan fails if any of the kids get back and reveal the truth to the undercity as a whole. The only reason he didn't immediately kill Powder is that it seemed like she might know where the last surviving target went. Then he heard what she had to say, recognized that she was in the same situation and felt that bond Ed mentioned earlier with the "brothers" comment.
In that moment he was no longer capable of killing her so long as that bond remained intact. Yes he also manipulates her, but that's just because he manipulates EVERYONE. It's part of who he is now, a manipulator. It's part of the result of his own untreated trauma. I'm not gonna defend him or say he is a good dad, he's not. But I truly believe that moment specifically was a moment of genuine care and affection for someone in the same situation as him, with no ulterior motives (yet).

Regarding Vi and Powder's interactions, both early "you're not ready" and later on, I really identify with the avoidant attachment vs anxious attachment conflict they are depicting. Vi doesn't deal well with the intense emotions Powder experiences so she tries to be compassionate in the arms-length sort of way she's able to process but Powder needs more emotional connection so she pushes for more, and Vi gets overwhelmed and pushes back hard and Powder gets hurt.

  • @visitinghours420
    @visitinghours420 8 месяцев назад +7

I hate how people say that Vi is a child too when you say she shouldn't have done that, but are okay with saying and recognizing that Powder shouldn't have done what she did even though she is a child too. The point isn't that Powder did nothing wrong and Vi did, the point is that they both did things wrong. We have already established that Powder shouldn't have done what she did, just because the last thing we point out is Vi not doing what she did doesn't mean it's like, "the last say" or "the worst" or something. I feel like defending Vi or saying she was "in her right to react the way she did because of trauma and emotions" would be the EXACT same thing as saying that Powder had a right to go in and help with a plan that she knows nothing about because of her trauma and emotions. I get people are mad at those saying Vi is evil or whatever, but that does NOT mean that you should swing the other way and say that she had a "right" to further traumatize Powder, especially because Powder also just lost them too, and even worse, she accidentally CAUSED it, (which I'm sorry but as someone who has experienced the side of accidentally causing the harm, it's MUCH worse). BOTH did something wrong, and BOTH had trauma and a lack of knowledge and understanding that caused those mistakes. Neither is evil or bad people, they both fucked up on a major scale, and like we can't ignore the trauma that caused it, we can't ignore the action either. Please give both characters the empathy and understanding that they deserve, there is no need to attack one for mistakes, and there is no need to defend one from the reality of their actions.

  • @visitinghours420
    @visitinghours420 8 месяцев назад +3

It's funny when you were discussing Powders first meltdown in her room, you mention how the tears of childhood are the most vulnerable. There was this poll I encountered where the question asked was which years are the scariest as a parent, infant child or teen. Most people said teen and I believe second was infant and this REALLY bothered me because it showed a lack of understanding in something I've noticed (I am not a psychologist, just think about it more than anything else); the childhood is the most vulnerable years in determining their stability.
People said infant because they are have the least defenses. People said teen because they are the hardest to control and they ask more questions that are hard to answer, but the more they explained it the more they proved that the only reason that teens were the hardest, were because they were imagining parenting the child wrong. Teen never comes to you, because you never made them feel safe. Teen rebels against you, because you never gave them freedom. Teen goes against what you tell them not to to, because you never explained anything. Teen is struggling with emotional regulation, because you never taught them how. Teen is having an extremely difficult time with their identity, because you never gave them the tools, safety, freedom, or language to know how to explore that. The list goes on and on and most of these things are things you teach in childhood. What's so terrifying about having a CHILD, is that you won't be able to see exactly how that has messed with them UNTIL they are a teen or adult. People think teens are the scariest because they think they are seeing immediate feedback, but they aren't, they are seeing the moments in their childhood that you have failed them, whether on purpose or not.
It really bothers me when people dismiss or invalidate the importance of what you say to children. "It's just a kids show, why should it be well thought out?" "They don't even understand, what does it matter what I say?" These kind of attitudes terrify me. And people dismissing the importance of semantics REALLY bothers me, especially as an autistic person. "Why does it matter, you know what I meant" okay but no, I literally thought you meant EXACTLY what you said, you can't just assume everyone has your definition for everything and your schemas or connotations for ideas. "Belief" doesn't automatically mean "personal preference" to me (yes someone has used it like this and expected me not to misunderstand), and you can't get mad when I think you are discriminating because you didn't communicate properly.
So what is the answer? Which is the most terrifying? Infant, child, or teen? To me it's a trick question, because often times, it's the parent.

Oh, on top of all of what you just said that's top tier in Arcane (animation, voice acting, story, characters, setting) wait until you start connecting all of the parallels, foreshadowing and themes in the show that tie episodes and storylines into a complex web beneath the surface.
You mentioned Powder's eyes becoming purple - it's more important than you think. Her eyes are blue-ish grey, but notice they glow bright blue when handling the power stones and just now turned pink (from crying and smoke). It will come back in the next episodes as well.
Also, the scenes of Powder falling from the explosion and Vi holding her jaw in anger are perfect recreations of Silco drowning from the intro and Vander holding his neck at the bridge in the factory. This is just one out of a 100 or so moments that you only get after repeated viewing.
There are NO filler moments in Arcane, it's ALL deliberate.

The writers of Arcane are really the most evil of cooks, they got the entire trauma salad on deck for each of the characters like "how about a tinge of abandonment, death for seasoning, guilt for substance and just a little bit of betrayal for flavor?"
Seriously. Arcane's writing treats traumas like you'd treat ingredients for a fucking 5-Michelin-star, gourmet ass dish, with its intricate study on the ways they blend together. It's scary to imagine what these writers could do if they had chosen to become evil politicians instead. I wouldn't want these skills applied against my worst enemy, because they know how to shatter a human being to pieces.
Shows like these often get me thinking about the nature of storytelling and writing, and the sort of power we have as the de facto gods of the worlds we create. If these characters could escape the confines of their world and realize all of their struggle, all of their pain was concocted and engineered by a single higher-order entity, what would they think?
While we're at it, ever thought about checking out Re:Creators?

"I thought..." well, that was your first mistake. Your second would be thinking that anything with "arcane" in the title or about any kind of "legends" wouldn't involve some kind of horror elements.... Don't you remember your mythology?
Lore note on the river: they poisoned it ages ago trying to open a canal through the isthmus that Zaun sits on. It technically succeeded, but the bomb technology used was either more powerful than they expected or they overestimated how much they needed, and destroyed the entire isthmus instead of just poking a hole in it, in addition to being highly toxic and poisoning the area as a result (which is part of why Zaun is how it is). (And no, i have no idea why they didn't just... dig it out like the US did in Panama....)
About Vi's fight: it's worth noting that Silco's crew there aren't really fighters. They're brawlers at best, used to street fights. So when they don't have a guard up or don't follow through properly, that's why. They never learned. And while Vi doesn't exactly have a dojo or teacher proper, she does at least have some training compared to them.
Also, you keep pronouncing Vi's name as "v-eye or v-eee or whatever", which it's clearly pronounced "six". ;D

i think alot of people don't realise in the scene where vi hits powder that vi realises it was her own mistake this happend. In the first episode vander holds vi's blody bandaged hands and tells her about responsabilitys and in the scene where powders blood gets on her bandages she looks at it and probably realises what vander meant in the first episode.

each episode will come to recomend
some "happy" shoes that i recomend.
    "Puella Magi Madoka Magica"
One of the most beautiful stories I've ever seen. A nice story about girls, who desperately wished for something, worked hard and thanks to that and some magic finally achieved their goals.
Personaly i recomend the movies version, far form being just a compiled recap they had sound desining, ost, backgorunds and evem many animations remade from the ground to a top notch quality, the only loss is the amasing OP and EDs.
    "Gakkou Gurashi"
Cute school girs doung cute things and theyr best to uphout the rules and values of theyr school club.
While i have my problems with they leaving some of the more dark undertones ou still a very copetent adaptation that close very whell the circle on the themes of the manga first act
"Made in Abyss" (EDIT: done already but i don't want to delete my love letter)
The probably one of the most amasing storyes out here of exploration both of amasing deep and breathtaking world as whell exploration of the MCs child innocence and ingenuity.
no caveats here toguether with oshi no ko are my top ongoing mangas (and candidates to top of all time) and the anime manages to elevate this works to the next level with golden marks.
Honorable mentions: Ousama Ranking, Steins:gate, Mushoku tensei, Seishun Buta Yarō(know on the ocident as "bunnygirl sempai" but this one can be a hit or miss to you model of content)

Please note that Vander drowning Silco is younger (!) than Vander on the beginning of Episode 1. This mean, that he led rebellion AFTER fight with Silco. There is a fan theory that in the very beginning, Silco was a peaceful one and didn't want the war, and that was the reason of clash with Vander. Being drown, he had a revelation that changed his position, and in the meantime Vander led people against Piltover - which changed Vander's position. Thus they landed on the reversed positions.

I know a lot of people give Vi shit, as she causes a lot of the issues powder has, but as you have said multiple times, she is very realistic character.
One point I like to defend Vi on is when she explodes at Powder she looks at the blood on her hands and regrets instantly hitting her and just needs to separate for space so she doesnt do anything else she regrets. She doesn't understand powder's attachment needs and the feeling of abandonment at that moment. Or the fact the second Vi sees Silco, she wants to run back to defend Powder.

    Notice a couple things...
ep1 When they see an enforcer clearly the scratchy scribbles first appear. Undefined and brief.
ep1 When the girls see their dead parents, Vi reacts with grief and tears. Powder doesn't react to the parents, no, she reacts to Vi's pain and seeks to comfort her.
ep3 When Vi is departing to rescue Vander, Powder isn't taking it all in. Her eyes are only on Vi.
ep3 Vi is standing over Vander's corpse. Powder doesn't react to the body at all. She is only dealing with and reacting Vi.
Powder was not right long before Silco.

She`s a Zaunite. In Zaun, kids grow up fast, die young and develop untreated mental illnesses all the time because Piltover doesn`t give a fuck about Zaun except when the "Trenchers" are causing trouble in their beloved "City of Progress"(A name they stole from Oshra`Va Zaun in the first place.)

@@aspieanarchist5439 Oh, not disputing that. Just that while the split with VI and association with Silco might have locked in her issues, Powder was in trouble long before that night.
With her lack of reactions to other deaths, I am believing that her unhealthy fixation on her sister may have her 'guilt' be giult at Vi's disappointment in Powder. So the guilt is borrowed guilt as Powder reacts as she thinks Vi might want he to.
A couple of Psych classes 50 years ago doesn't make me qualified at all, just that it seems inappropriate for Powder to feel such guilt over second hand stories that she had no contact with. What she did have contact with was her action angering Vi.

Here's a note: after getting the info from Ekko, did Vi just... abandon him in the bloodstained house beside his adoptive fathers corpse? Where TF did he end up during all this? Why didn't she just bring him back to the The Last Drop with her? Then she could have left him with Powder, providing much needed emotional stability for both of them, given powder a task to feel useful "take care of little man, he watched everything go down and needs your help a lot more than we do right now". Would have solved everything and we would have the happy story everyone pretended this was going to be. But no. Instead we got this. passing out free trauma for everyone. You get some trauma! you get some trauma! Everybody gets some trauma!
On a separate note... I want to know what Isekai cleverca22 was talking about at around 39:00 ish. I kinda want to read it...

I’ve been rewatching arcane through other because it make me feel like I see it for the first time again.
Your take on Powder’s heavy emotions (2:11:20) have created some insight into my own childhood and made me realize why I resonate with Powder and especially Jinx so much.
I’ve already had a lot of therapy and emdr, but I still struggle with so much. Couple of months ago I had to call my mom and friends multiple time to ask who I was and if I remember/ view things correctly. It made me think I was maybe even going through a psychosis. I keep self manipulating who I am and what happened in the past. Everything is so abstract because everyone has their own perspective of events and their own interpretations of the truth/facts.
I still struggle, but luckily not as much as a couple of months ago

What counts as major trauma though? My mom used to hit me sometimes as a kid. Does that count? (Not gonna remove a point for this one yet.)

Originally was gonna have this as a reply to one of the comments but I think I'll just put it here:
Silco stans really out here in denial about him being manipulative to Jinx.
Not saying he was like that to her all the time, but there was one scene in episode 7 where he does it intentionally (out of fear of losing her, I know, I know). So, who knows how many times he's done it intentionally before episode 4?
Molding her into becoming like him was not a good thing either. I think that contributed to making her worse. He tried to help her, that was his way of helping her, but she is not him. They relate to each other so much with that trauma which made him think that he can help her the way he had helped himself.
Silco loves her but he was not exactly a good parental figure for her. There was potential for their father-daughter relationship to become wonderful, but this is not that kind of story.
