No, this is not a silly question.
Make sure you use an image if you want to access the "Shadow" button.

You'll probably have to juggle with multiple text boxes to achieve this result as there is no text effect that does that in Canva, at least for now 🤔

Make sure you are in a Presentation document. Layouts only work with Presentations at the moment 😊
