Love these stories. I worked with some SEALS on Guam (I was a Seabee. Built them a beautiful BBQ pit), and they treated us great. If you call scaring the shit out of us in a zodiac great.
You navy seals are crazy bunch I’ll tell ya. I was with the 82nd airborne and I wrestled a couple seals one night and I got chocked out in 30 seconds and to sum it up I’m 6’4” 250 big guy and the seal who got me in 30 sec was like 5’8” 175 crushes me lol the other dude was around my size and did a lil better with him maybe over a min haha . It was cool to hang with some of you guys so thanks for the memories bad asses

Same with a green beret who scored a 93 or 91 on his pft and eventually said fuck this shit and tried for special forces and made the cut. Anyone can do it you have to have the mindset.

Did any of you guys know Navy Senior Chief Special Warfare Operator Rob J Reeves? He was part of the teams, correct? He was from my hometown. They say he was a hell of a guy. I never got the opportunity to meet him but know people who did and they always had nothing but great things to say about him.
Rob talks about how he knew him and actually had dinner at his house right before Reeves passed on his next deployment. He actually talks about it in one of these podcasts.
I was in a Marine aviation unit with Cobras aboard the USS Trenton in the North Atlantic in 83. We had a SEAL Team aboard and some of them became hangar rats hanging out with us. They were all apeshit over the Cobras and wanted to sit in them all the time. Cool dudes. One was a former Marine, and one was a little bitty guy, about 5'7" and probably 140 lbs wet. This was actually the first time I had even heard of SEALs. Good times mooning the Russian bombers that flew over VERY low taking photos. I tell everyone there is probably a photo of my ass in some file cabinet in Russia.

You can bet any amount he did the swimming part. There are no free rides! Not even in the regular Navy. I was trained to swim. Let's say it might have been a rather hostile way for me to learn!! You do what you have to do when the pressure is on.
He doesn't push himself like he used to when he was in the Teams. It's easy to shrink down when you don't lift and run as much as you used too. Hell you can be jacked and if you slow down your training for even a month it's easy to shrink down and not be as strong as you used too.
I've only seen that shrinking effect with athletes and bodybuilders that use steroids. You look at Shannon Sharpe and Hershel Walker who played clean and they maintain themselves. Look at retired boxers, MMA fighters, sprinters or triathalon athletes. They maintain themselves. I wish those guys the best.

I've been around a lot of veterans and seen a shit ton of deployment pictures from Vietnam war all the way to guys from Iraq/Afghanistan war and they shrink down a lot because they were sick of running and PT lol. My Dad was a Navy Seal in Vietnam and worked with the CIA after he got out of the teams and once he/they get a taste of the civilian life they slowly start letting go. Cant blame them though! They sure as hell earned a break from being the best of the best for all those years.

Marine bootcamp you spend a week in the pools. It never occurred to me some guys dont know how to swim. A few of these guys in full gear, rifles etc would jump off the 10 or 15 foot platform. Literally bear hugging the railing as instructors pry them off. At the time i didnt realize they were only a day into learning to swim. Now theyve got all this weight and just freak out. Of course the instructors push them off. Ive never heard more fearful and desperate screams. There were a dozen safety swimmers, so they were fine. But i still laughed my ass off watching this.
