Jane Austen, who was an INTJ, wrote a story about an INTJ man who everybody types as villain at the very start of the novel, because he's rich and doesn't care about the feelings of people who is not in his inner circle. It happens also that he has very loyal friends, his family and servants adore him, an ultimately he learns that love must be earned, and he fixes all he can in order to make his beloved happy. I think Austen portrayed and INTJ with more depth and layers than the stereotype of Intj=evil because she knew what she was talking about.
I adore Darcy because in reading about him I wasn’t crushing on him, but feeling a sense of kinship, feeling understood. I know this person … I know why he is like this.
"Single minded focus". Completely spot on. Got a goal, its a strong one, willing to do what it takes to meet it, obsess until complete. Move on to next goal. Repeat.
A word of advice from a fellow INTJ to the younger ones. Start ur self awareness journey ASAP, and keep in mind that love is a spectrum. Romantic love is a dust cloud that u walk thru, breathe in, get high off of for a while, then when u find the meaning and logic of it, u move on like closing a book or changing ur underwear. Stop feeling sorry for urself and cut that longing feeling of wanting to merge with others totally so that someone understands u (unless it's a plan to get to another step). Noone will ever truly understand u for realsies, and THAT is ur superpower. That's what makes u be able to move behind the veil. If u do find someone, make sure they work well with ur values and lifestyle and keep ur deepest thoughts to urself and God. Smart ppl who may be like u will pay attention to ur actions and wonder 'why' and gravitate towards u naturally. Study game theory and change management, apply to life. Rinse, Repeat and Improve. Focus on stability and growth. Money is a tool, Intentions can be the root of evil, depends. U are to operate like the devil without the 'evil'. Hope this helps.🤗

Couple weeks ago I was watching this video explaining the differences between a narcissist, a psychopath, and a sociopath. After watching it I told my gf how I kind of identify myself with these traits which scared her a little bit. Today I learned I'm an INTJ lmao.
My brother would always complain that I'm too boring. He gets annoyed that I don't react to things the way he expects me to like whenever a serious situation comes up, I'm too calm as if I don't care. I remember my mom telling me that I act as if I'm in my own little world just sitting on the side without care of what's happening around me. I really wanna tell them that I DO care, in fact I care more than anyone to the point that I just already thought of any possible scenarios so many times inside my head that it doesn't faze me anymore when it actually happens.
I know I’m like super late but I just wanted to write down my thoughts on this topic. I, as a young INTJ, have found that due to our small population, less than 1% of the world population, have trouble finding role models and those with similar mindsets. Even more so for those like me who is in several minority groups. This then snowballs into being social outcasts or getting harassed. I personally have to worry about confiding in others and then getting caught in a hate crime. I think that living like this, where your idealistic and more optimistic outlooks keep on getting destroyed make people that fit extremely well into the villain and antihero roles very well. Even within my own thoughts I have described myself as an antihero or just a side character. I just can’t see myself as a typical young, naive, and impressionable hero. It’s so pervasive a thought that I fine reading more ‘fun-based unrealistic fantasy’ that I used to like to be horrible because my thoughts would drift to how unrealistic and idealist it was. Even though I am a teenager around the age most ‘heroes’ would be. I’m sorry, that was a rant and a half but yeah. My view on why INTJs seem to be good villains is that you could easily imagine what someone with such single mindedness could do if life just kept on hurting them, or something like that. Again sorry for the rant, bye.
I think we INTJ are often portrayed as villains because we have very detached attitude that is concerned with autonomy and effectiveness first. Heroic journeys are stories told often to teach people to respect one another and appreciate one another. Therefore the hero learns to rely on others and to let go of control, to embrace things as they are, live and let live, and taking action now. A bit of a reactive posture. The hero is spontaneous. We have the opposite posture. We are proactive creatures that rather prevent rather than react. We rather exert control than let things go on by themselves. We rather be autonomous than depend on anyone else. We think that good intentions and the power necessary to actually exert such intentions are equally important. While the common heroic story will tell you that power is a consequence of your intentions,we aren't like that. We rather create our own power. That is why, I think, INTJs are often portrayed as villains.
@@rithrius5384 Your inference is only partially correct. Yes, I'm a fan however to assume I did it for selfish reasons is incorrect. It could also be of interest to some beginner/intermediate subscribers to see fictional examples of the NTs and why they are considered xNTP or xNTJ. Death Note's prominent NTs would be great for this. More content suggestions can't hurt a small youtuber, and a video regarding Death Note would be a great choice for his channel in my opinion.
I'm not INTJ, but rather ISFP, but I find these discussions about INTJ interesting. We share all the same functions, just in a different order, and I think that's one reason why I sometimes sympathize with and always try to understand the so-called villains of a story. To me, a bad story has villains that come across as evil without any humanity whatsoever. Often I find that my favorite character in a book or movie is the 'misunderstood villain'. HAL 9000 from 2001: A Space Odyssey comes to mind. I also really liked Luv from Blade Runner 2049, Mystique from the early X-Men movies, and Emma Frost/White Queen from the X-Men comics. I like the heroic characters as well, mind you.
My friend once told me I’d be evil if I didn’t have such strong moral principles. Edit: also, I think one reason people think of INTJ’s as “spooky” is because Ni is so mysterious by its very nature. *I* barely understand it and it’s my lead function.
The concept of honor and some semblance of righteousness is the only reason why I have not become a villain. But I will admit I am largely tempted at times (especially lately) to just use ANY tools at my disposal to get what I want. Bc lately I’m getting tired of being “good” and not getting what I want. Bc I still get labeled as being in the wrong. Playing by arbitrary rules of society feels like living with one hand tied behind my back.
As an INTJ I think the society would have easily turned me into a villain but my father and mother are the reason why may be I can help the world to become better
While you were explaining why the INTJ qualities are an excellent match for a fictional villain personality, all I could think of was Vergil. Thank you~
I'm an INTJ, and I have always found myself relating much more to the villains than the stereotypical good guys but I never actually thought fully about why that might be. Indeed, it's because their planning, thinking, and goal behaviors are things that I tend to value in myself. Obviously for different ends, but it's an interesting point of reference.
I think because I'm an INTJ, I see things more as they are, than what they are painted as, which gives me more empathy. Most people don't think about the animals being slaughtered for their food, but as an INTJ, it messes with my head because people just overlook billions of suffering animals.
Intresting perspective. I'am INTJ too, and I do understand that fish and chicken are farmed to be consumed. And human body evoluted in need of protein. Which is why I'am pescatarian, but I eat chicken. No other red or bird meat.

Thanh Trung Le yesssss thank you! As I said myself, Moriarty was the quintessential INTJ. Even Sherlock said pretty much he’s the mastermind itself. ( read the book). I think Sherlock was INTJ too. Glorious disdain and respect between them.
@@annsmith936 Sherlock and Moriaty always sacrifice his life to get what they want. But Moriaty did plan and prepare everything, every details. I read all stories about Sherlock Holmes and also The Moriaty's Papers. That means Holmes is more an introverted thinking while Moriaty is introverted intuition. For me Holmes is INTP while Moriaty is an INTJ actually
INTJs have that Judging function. We often judge we should better do the things we are trying to do (other things don't make good sense for us), but that function does prevent us from being extreme in a bad way. Also, since we avoid draining ourselves arguing (and impairing our vital judgment due to that mental exhaustion), it seems we are blind or just don't have feelings.
A good INTJ villain quote comes from Viren in the dragon prince. "You're mistaken; i'm a pragmatist" And as far as things go, he is pragmatic. He finds logical, somewhat reasonable solutions to the obstacles he faces. And in his head he is doing the right thing for the good of humankind.
Same , also it's hard that we're always thinking about the future and when a goal needs immediate attention it's hard to achieve it with all the thinking about the future's going on .
Yes, everyone says of goals, but I do not have anything. Unachievables dropped, nothing stays. I know this world is wrong in so many ways, and I'm helpless/ hopeless to make it different. May be my environment is influential…
Imagine a world where you could have anything you want. Now make it reasonably obtainable aligned with how much you're willing so sacrifice and put your life towards that..
We INTJs tend to prioritize our goals and dreams over everything.... we prefer rational and logical thought and an organized approach towards our goal so much so that we overlook feelings and basic human emotions, making us look like stone-hearted or emotionless villains
As an intj we are just very very motivated people but we are most likely not going to not want to become a villain. Most hero types are ENFPs along with ESFPs, like with anime and cartoons and so on. ENFPs are chosen quite often usually as the hero because their dreams and imagination and idealism is appealing to people. But ESFPs get picked as well too. ENFPs and ESFPs are common for the hero type
I think something that terrifies people is that we INTJs tend to understand ourselves well and show remarkable self-control/self-mastery. When you don’t even know who you are, yet you meet someone who seems to know who they are, it’s intimidating. If you are not master of yourself, yet meet someone who at least appears to be, people know that that’s powerful. If you can master your closest enemy, there’s very little you cannot do. Ironically, the INTJs with the greatest self-mastery are the ones least likely to actually do harm, because they know selfishness and evil will never make them happy, rather self-sacrifice makes them happy. The bewildering paradox is that INFJs with their awe-inspiring empathy can actually sometimes make the most heinous villains, and INTJs with their seeming self-centrism can make the most selfless heroes. It’s all in how you use the cognition you’ve got.
As an INTJ, I had to learn how to understand that not everyone has logic over emotion. So I had to teach myself how to respect other peoples feelings, even if they didn’t make sense. And now, I can sometimes find it logical, when someone is being completely emotional and ignoring Logic. And the reason why, is because I understand that we are all human. Even tho as an INTJ, we are sometimes not human.
I'd suggest the introverted ENTJ and Fe-subdued ISTP variants are pretty common 'INTJ-like' (dichotomies-wise) villians too! Then there are the mastermind-like INFJs (I'm thinking Sephiroth with the Ni-Ti inner reality and puppet-mastery).
This is actually very interesting about the introverted feelings. The share house that i was staying got robbed 2 years ago, nobody was home and i was sleeping when the burglary broke into the house. I woke up when the burglars kicked my bedroom door open and i just sat there on my bed thinking what the hell just happened. They took all of my belongings and asked for money with knife pointing in front of my face but i just replied to them with my mother language which wasn't english to play dumb. After they realised they couldn't do anything to me because of "language barrier", they left. I called the police later and they interviewed me on what happened, including asking about my feelings but i just didn't really feel anything. i was shocked, that's for sure, but i didn't feel scared. when the whole thing happened, my brain just tried to think what to do which for some reasons, playing dumb and pretended that i couldn't speak english. i just blurted out to the police saying that i felt scared, blablabla, just because that's what a normal person would say and so the police wouldn't think that i am secretly a psycho.
As an INTJ who always says, "I'm a very dark and evil person." This video just adds to that. I identify way too much to this video. I hate having feelings, I like to be numb and have no emotions. I'm also really insensitive depending on a matter. I swear, I have a heart. My best friend keeps me grounded and have feelings.
Hello fellow INTJ - thanks for this discussion! My fam always jokes about this with me. When I was younger I used to be offended but now I’ve learned to appreciate my ability to understand events - often much easier from the villain point of view. I agree there are more broadly two “types” of villains and INTJs do seem best suited for the behind the scenes/pulling the strings roles. Interesting stuff :)
That Danganrompa t-shirt. Hmm. I wonder how people would type the villain there, because that one does measure on any scale of sanity anymore. If she even ever did.
I see a lot of villains who seem similar to an ENTP. The joker for instance, and maybe rumplestilskin from shrek. They seem to be the chaotic and argumentative types of villains. It would be a neat series for you to compare old folk fairytales to the mbti types since there are a lot of archetypes in mythology and folklore.
I could be seen as a bit villainish because I don’t show any emotion and because of strong pattern recognition I tend to kind of know what people are going to do and can orchestrate the outcome I want. I’m just being efficient but ppl can feel intimidated I guess.
DANGANRONPA HOODIE. Also, as a writer myself, I often poise the villain as the worse and most intelligent part of myself (crazy too), but I also create the hero with similar characteristics as me, sometimes
Reason that would make an intj a villain is if they get treated wrong, they might aim to take revenge. Vindictive nature and goal oriented ----depends, if the goal is something bad. The mental energy is so powerful and so active that the mind takes over the heart.
Hi, AP. I'm glad you brought up this topic. I suspect that the introversion and the rarity of the type have something to do with why they're easily used as villains. From the POV of the other 15 types, folks probably haven't met enough INTJs IRL to get a handle on what goes on behind the eyes of the quiet INTJs. (Unfortunately, this also means that it's almost too easy for writers to use INTJ traits when trying to write a school shooter, a sexual predator, or a patient terrorist.) Whenever the hero detective walks into that secret room with the red string connecting all the photos on the wall, it doesn't just show that this fictional villain is organized and mentally isolated, it unfortunately reinforces the myth that real people who are dedicated, sharp, organized, and loners are automatically doomed to be criminally-deviant masterminds by default. (Thankfully, schoolteachers in RL tend to appreciate the NTs' studiousness for learning, and this helps.) In terms of moving a plot forward and having exciting to-and-fro conflict in a story, an INTJ villain does makes it easier for writers to have an antagonist who is both mysterious and believably able to have a back-up plan for nearly-every eventuality. In addition to other commenters' examples of James Bond villains and Professor Moriarty, the two examples which struck me as probable INTJs are Dr. Frankenstein from Mary Shelley's famous horror novel (especially in the first chapters before his creation is successfully reanimated) and Elphaba Thropp the green-skinned Wicked Witch of the West from Gregory Maguire's novel Wicked. (Heck, even the live musical version of her is likely an INTJ, and it contrasts powerfully alongside the ESFP portrayal of Glinda the Good Witch of the North.) Thanks to you again for bringing up this topic in your video.
That being said, as superficial as I consider the DMC to be (style over substance and all that), the idea of a villain making ever greater sacrifices is dope and resonates with me. Plus, it gets a villain going for longer and justifies the power creep of a series for a while, whilst making the villain even more villanous every entry. I love it.
Ok, I just realised my favourite villain is the planning, quiet type villain of "The sword of truth". It's an epic saga. I could only stomach the first book, because I thought it was mediocre, but it had the best villain I ever loved to hate. Also, I learned gutural singing for extreme metal styles (black and death metal, for those of you who know) and I felt supercozy in the lower, calmer gutural songs, in which I pictured myself as this evil overlord ravishing in his calm, dark throne, rather than the all out aggressive mid guturals with thrashy riffs or the higher goblin mode chaotic evil growls.
We quietly go about our business, laying low and moving in the shadows. People can see we're working on something, but for some reason we don't share it. Clearly, we're hiding something. In reality, we just like peace and quiet to focus. We're prone to sensory overload and too much attention can induce it.
Reminds me of griffith from berserk except he’s an ENTJ. He quoted “I must keep winning to attain my dream. The same one they clung to, and risked their lives for. To realize my dream, I will perch on top of their corpses.. It is a blood-smeared dream, after all. I don't regret or feel guilty about it.. But to risk thousands of lives while never getting myself dirty. It's not a dream that can be so easily realized.”
Oh this explains so much. I used to think I was an INFP for the longest time. But I noticed as as I grew older I was closer to the INTJ/INFJ type. being stuck in a ti vs fi loop constantly. I guess I was working too much to notice it. But I do relate a lot to villains but that doesn't make me bad? I'm more of an anti hero if anything.

I am an INTJ and am not goal oriented. I have already set up my life in a good way and tend to keep it that way. I plan for the future to resolve any and all problems that may come up in whatever situation.
I'm not so lucky. I had my whole life planned out until i turned 20. Schizophrenia happened which cast my life into a constant detour to problems i wasn't prepared for. I'm now 38 years old and just received a clean bill of mental health by my highly trusted therapist. Sense then i simply blitzkrieg my goals into action to the point that my entire family are getting whiplash. I just can't wait any longer since i was forced to put my entire life on hold. Now nothing can stop me, not even myself.

@@yaakovbarrokion7650 Maybe at first glance, yes. But take into consideration that quite a few of the scenes in the movie are Arthur's imagination. He imagines himself in the audience of his favorite talkshow, being adressed by the host saying he'd want a son like Arthur. His imaginary relationship with the girl down the hall which he has a crush on, etc, are confirmed to be Arthur imagining these things. All things a neglected INTP would imagine doing. Furthermore, there's a popular theory going around that not just the confirmed things, but in fact most of the movie is Arthur's imagination. Him killing the guys on the subway. Killing his mother. Killing Murray Franklin, his former hero who he's grown to resent because of what he did to him. Being hailed as a hero in a city that previously resented him. Then his contemplations of suicide, rehearsing how he'd do it on national television, to instead killing the one who has caused him his pain, also on national telivision. If the theory of all this taking place in Arthur's mind is true, he's a closed case INTP, albeit a very unhealthy one.

I don't think Batman is a perfect match for the INTJ type, but it would explain some of his deficits or quirks, such as the fact that he's an Introverted eccentric billionaire who dislikes being in large groups of people.
He prefers to be alone. He puts intimate relations on the back burner. He's highly selective about who he trusts. He has a knack for pattern recognition, and exercises a "mind over matter" approach.
Batman is ENTJ Bruce Wayne is INTJ...
Catwoman did not understand this and that is why she preferred Batman to Bruce Wayne.

@@rithrius5384 I disagree. I think an INTJ wouldn't betray his principles, even for achieving a goal.
Batman is someone who changed his natural personality ( ego) onto his superego or subconscious early in his life, after the accident with his parents. I think he’s struggling with his true self big time. That’s why we can’t pinpoint him.
I don’t like him and his development of the character at all. But I’m sure there will be a movie that goes deeper into it soon. I mean come on, it’s a market gap.

Yup. Thought it would improve in my 30s... but now I relate to 50-60 year olds.
Repeat.
That’s exactly how my mind works.

Today I learned I'm an INTJ lmao.
the7th son same
My brother would always complain that I'm too boring.
Lol, what are you talking about. There are loads of role models as INTJs. Look at Jay Z, Elon Musk or Mark Zuckerberg for example.
Logically speaking prevention is better than cure after all.
Loved.." if they fail they double their efforts."

Rithrius Light is ENTJ. If you disagree, it only proves that there IS something to discuss.
I am an INTJ dubstep artist, and these videos help me understand myself and inspire me greatly thank you
I have long ago stopped giving a damn if people think I am evil. I consider most of them to be idiots, so we are even.
Well done well done 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 especially the stops at nothing to reach goals and makes sacrifices.
"Working under the radar to obtain their goal" resonated to me since its literally what I am going through right now.

I find it interesting that growing up I always had a liking for alot of villains.. and. Now I find out I'm a intj (Architect)
I always liked the saying...if there's a will there's a way!
I think because I'm an INTJ, I see things more as they are, than what they are painted as, which gives me more empathy. Most people don't think about the animals being slaughtered for their food, but as an INTJ, it messes with my head because people just overlook billions of suffering animals.

"You're mistaken; i'm a pragmatist"

And in his head he is doing the right thing for the good of humankind.
I have no goal at the moment and it's killing me. I feel so stuck not knowing what to do.

IMHO not likely since he gets over emotional when comparing himself to Reed Richard...
We INTJs tend to prioritize our goals and dreams over everything.... we prefer rational and logical thought and an organized approach towards our goal so much so that we overlook feelings and basic human emotions, making us look like stone-hearted or emotionless villains

ENTJ can make a good puppet for the INTJ who is smartly working behind the scenes.
You don't grab power! You accumulate it. - Grand Negas Zek
5:15 This is the most Intuitively touching statement.
Mr Freeze, Batman the Animated Series.
Heard Magneto was intj too. I liked him and I respected his pov
Cognitive Personality Theory I’m sorry but what? Would be nice if you explained it bit better for us non-experts.
Grand Admiral Thrawn from Star Wars is a great example of an INTJ villain

Griffith is a great example of INTJ.

New subscriber. Thsi summed me up to a TEE. Loved this video.
Reason that would make an intj a villain is if they get treated wrong, they might aim to take revenge. Vindictive nature and goal oriented ----depends, if the goal is something bad. The mental energy is so powerful and so active that the mind takes over the heart.
that danganronpa hoodie!
(Unfortunately, this also means that it's almost too easy for writers to use INTJ traits when trying to write a school shooter, a sexual predator, or a patient terrorist.)
Whenever the hero detective walks into that secret room with the red string connecting all the photos on the wall, it doesn't just show that this fictional villain is organized and mentally isolated, it unfortunately reinforces the myth that real people who are dedicated, sharp, organized, and loners are automatically doomed to be criminally-deviant masterminds by default. (Thankfully, schoolteachers in RL tend to appreciate the NTs' studiousness for learning, and this helps.)
In terms of moving a plot forward and having exciting to-and-fro conflict in a story, an INTJ villain does makes it easier for writers to have an antagonist who is both mysterious and believably able to have a back-up plan for nearly-every eventuality.
(Heck, even the live musical version of her is likely an INTJ, and it contrasts powerfully alongside the ESFP portrayal of Glinda the Good Witch of the North.)
Thanks to you again for bringing up this topic in your video.
Yeah, I've always known I was like Vergil. So edgy. Literally me.
I've often been described as a James Bond villain by others, and I've always considered it to be a compliment.
It really depends on what you are focused at... For me, the world needs to be fixed for good, so I would become a hero instead of a villain

There is always a way to get what we want.
And a way to get something beneficial out of even the most dire of circumstances.

Reminds me of klaus Mikaelson from TO who was a villain but loves his family and always had more than 2 plans , and one of his hobbies was painting and art is one of INTJ’s hobbies.
Suggestion of video: Analysis of a character using the MBTI. Alex Mercer, from Prototype, will be a good start. (I think he is an INTJ)
How about something more recent?
Arthur Fleck, the most recent version of The Joker, who i think is an INTP.
@@rithrius5384 I got the impression that he is an INFP
INFJ-Awesome video. Very informative.Thank you
I'm intj-a but I'm lazy and procrastinate a lot eating ramen and surfing the net..LOL
OMG this is sooo true. failure fuels the fire, so much that nothing nothing at all is worth it except for that 1 thing that has to be achieved at all cost. As if whole life depends on achieving it.
