    In this 4th episode of Helix: In The Studio, I take a look at the difference between stereo and mono presets and when and how we should use each. I also take a look at how we can handle them in our recording productions. I really hope you enjoy the video and find it useful. As always, thanks so much for tuning in :-)

    I'm starting to think that the existence or collapsing of stereo or mono signal would be made FAR MORE CLEAR the lines were doubled when the signal is stereo. That way you immediately see between which block or input/output the signal becomes mono or stereo.
    Maybe I'll suggest the idea to Line6.

      I posted on their forum with a mockup: line6.com/support/topic/55942-could-helix-hardware-and-software-display-show-stereo-signal-path/

    Okay but if you don't want to use the mono block at the end. Would it be doing the same identical thing if you just used the left output of your quarter inch out or XLR out?
    Cuz I've noticed my stereo setups sound great but when I unplug the right channel just use the left channel put the balance equal on the mixer. I noticed the mono sound has a little bit less base and doesn't sound as good..

    What about recording a 100% mono signal (mono effects all the way through) to a stereo track in the DAW? Basically like dual mono instead of stereo?

      I believe I did this in Cubase with my Helix. When I tried to pan left or right it would always play in both speakers.

    You say that if we take the left signal, it does not sum to mono. But on the Left XLR out it says “left/mono”, doesn’t it mean that it is summed up automatically?

    Good stuff as always. This is unrelated but in one of your livestreams a few months ago, I asked about the guitar solo tone for the Tom waits song 'clap hands'... Did you ever get a chance to listen to that? It's a very gritty, kinda frail tone but it works beautifully in the context of the song.

    I can't get a stereo signal to work. I just got the helix yesterday. Watched 5 videos on this and nothing works. If I pan it left it stays the same. If I pan right I lose the signal completely. What am I doing wrong? I even DL'd a few peoples presets and it the same. I can't find anything in global settings to fix it. I'm using headphones and the USB connection toy computer. It's the same problem on both!!! Very frustrating 😕

    What would be the difference between using a dual cab block and using two single cab blocks in a parallel path?

    • @JasonSadites
      @JasonSadites  4 года назад +1

      The dual block defaults to panning one cab left and the other right unless you do what I describe in the video. But, really not much difference between using either way.

    This answered my question I sent you about your stereo template! But is it correct that if i plug my left XLR to frfr speaker it will combine everything to mono, so therefore I dont really need the last mono gain block?

    Thanks for the vid - I want to ask you -
    I'm running my stomp into my SS amp's return mono ( it's a 2X12 8240
    stereo Marshall).
    the problem is that only one speaker works. The patch is one mono amp ( no cab).Mono EQ at the end of it.
    so I tried to go in the FX stereo (LEFT AND RIGHT) return of the amp.
    still, only one speaker works.
    ----------------------
    If I go with the guitar to amp's input, both speakers work
    ----------------------
    what am I doing wrong? should I make that last EQ stereo?
    Is the problem coming from the stomp or patch? or is it because of my SS amp?
    TNX

    what if i'm running a stereo preset, but i only plug in a mono output. Will it be summed into mono??

    • @JasonSadites
      @JasonSadites  4 года назад +1

      Nathanael, yes I believe so, by plugging into the Left output only.

    You're trick collapsing the stereo to mono by using a gain block is the one I've been using too for recording. But doesn't Helix collapse the signal hardware wise to mono by connecting only the left output on XLR or 1/4 ? So hooking it up to a Monitor or Amp it should be fine,or?

    • @JasonSadites
      @JasonSadites  4 года назад

      Yes I believe it does collapse it to mono by using Left output.
