    I had never heard of a folding nurse's clipboard before, but I sure am glad I stumbled across this video. I've been trying to build my perfect mini urban sketching kit and this will be a great edition. Thanks!

    This is an absolutely brilliant idea. I just received mine (had to get it from the US because all the UK ones were plastic). I thought that, being metal, magnets would adhere, but on mine, they don’t. However some other RUclipsr suggested using refrigerator magnets with clips the wrong way round: instead of using the magnet side face down and the clip face up, you can use the spring clip to attach to the board and use the magnet to hold a metal travel watercolour box-with two clips, the box sticks to the palette like a rock. Even with the box and the paper, there’s plenty of room for a brush, pencil or pencil, a clip-on dual water pot and so on. And it all folds up compactly.
    I’d never heard of a folding clipboard before so wouldn’t have known to look for one without your video. Thank you so much!

    There is also a different kind of nurse clipboard that has a pencil case at the bottom and storage underneath. Nurses are able to carry patient charts, notes, etc. The pencil case is flush with the clipboard surface. I am able to carry all my supplies, including clips, rubber bands to help secure supplies on the clipboard, magnets, collapsible water storage, my sketchbook and palette, etc. Thanks for this video.

    Might be way too late to suggest it, but I have a small projector tripod that holds onto the projector by magnet only - no screwing it on - so that would work well with the metal nurse's clipboard I would think. If I recall, that projector sells for $12 or so? Not that expensive to add, I don't think.

    I recently had a bit of an epiphany that a folding clipboard could be great for on the go sketching - I should've known someone had already thought of it! I specifically like the idea of a folding board since it'll give me a larger drawing board but letting me keep my relatively small handbag.

    I love the clip board idea. Ordered one immediately! When I Close it I have my watercolors and pen box on outside attached by Velcro, for travel. Opened up I use a large rubber band or clips. Just ordered a cell phone thumb thingy for it. Thank you! Thank you! Perfect!

      Kym Berry, thanks. It’s pretty cool and a good size. Best with my little 4x6 block and I’m not used to using blocks much so I’m still figuring out best time to use this setup. Ordered another Pocket Palette to keep stored in the closed clipboard.

    This is such a great idea!! It’s a perfect solution. I’ve used clipboards before, but they’re awkward to manage when outside. Your model gives a firm base to work on, it fits in a smaller bag, and isn’t as cumbersome when moving around. Thank you 🙏🏼

    I used an aluminum for a couple of years in my job before throwing away. I don’t know where you live or when you sketch in the wild but an aluminum clipboard will get painfully cold in the winter. I found that wearing gloves made my work more difficult so I finally gave up on the aluminum keyboard so that I could use thin gloves that allowed me to write and operate electronic.

      @ultramarinetoo, funny. It’s actually a writing “boxl/desk to use on your lap. I bought it years ago at a street fair in Fairfax, Virginia. I added a piece on bottom so I could attach it to a tripod. It works but isn’t 100% stable like the Coropast drawing board I made and show in another video. This was something someone made to sell at street fairs but their are others available commercially. Just do a search on wooden lap desk.

    Hi there. This is an interesting idea especially by the time that this nurse board can fold . But why do you trouble yourself with sketchbooks? I have come up to the conclusion that sketchbooks are full of disadvantages. The main disadvantage is that if for any reason the watercolour sketches delay to dry then you need to hold with you yet another sketchbook in order to go on and sketch something else.
    Another disadvantage of the sketchbooks is that they are usually more bulky than loose sheets of paper cut in any size, the paper might not be always of the best quality or not suitable for all techniques and finally sketchbooks cost more than loose sheets of any kind of paper.
    If you switch to loose paper sheets you can attach them with just the clip of this board and have with you only the number of paper sheets that you are going to need and of course of any different quality or kind. Have some for watercolour and some other for pencil drawings etc.
    That is how I do it by using a regular clipboard ( that doesn't fold ) and I store the finished sketches into dossiers filled with nylon paper sleeves that are sold at any office supplies store and are very affordable.

    • @mechadebzilla
      @mechadebzilla Год назад

      Good point to consider about sketchbooks. In my experience, my paintings dry fast enough that wet pages aren't slowing me down. If I am in such a hurry that I can't wait for it to dry before going to paint the next thing, then I am in much too much of a hurry.
      I have considered painting on loose sheets but couldn't think of how to manage the finished pieces. Thanks for the idea on the nylon sheet covers.

    Does this clipboard stay open and flat or does it automatically fold up?

    • @OneTrueWord1988
      @OneTrueWord1988 3 года назад +1

      Carol Gehman: I bought one after seeing this, and I love it! It stays open and flat. I also bought some slide on metal pen holders for my pencil and brush (ebay,) and plastic with metal clip on double water container, (etsy.) Both were inexpensive. I also use two hair bands from $tree, the long ones, to hold my sketchbook to the clipboard, (stretched all the way around it, one on each side,) as I find that those binder clips take up too much room on my paper, are a pain to move, and leave indentations on my pages. The hair bands are easy to slide around as needed. Hope this helps! Happy painting! Donna 🖌 😊
