    Great strides were taken to learn the spoken Sioux language with the crew of actors. The portrayal of native tribes in a positive way was ground breaking with this film. If I recall correctly, I saw this film three times at the theater when it premiered.

      Yeah, I am so impressed with the language aspect of this film. Wow that's a lot of time in the theater, but well worth it for a movie like this. I saw Back to the Future 3 times in the theater. Wish I could have gone even more! :)

    Graham Greene has been a favorite ever since this movie, but also his role in Northern Exposure (best show ever). I liked him in Longmire, too.

    Thank you for doing this movie. I saw this several times in the theatre when it was released. My favorite scene was towards the end when Wind in His Hair confessed his undying friendship to Dunbar.

    Another great review of a movie. One of my all-time favorites. The music adds so much to this movie. So glad you liked it. Always like seeing your reactions and the squinting left eye :) I hope breaking your pinky finger wasn't too painful.

    Graham Greene was also in the Mel Gibson "Maverick." He showed that he could play comedy as well as drama.

    Yes, the helmet was a Spanish helmet from the time of the Conquistadors, the arrived in the region (North Dakota) in the 1600's but left again. The army used Pawnee scouts because of their enmity regarding the Sioux. I loved Ten Bears, what a remarkable man. It is still my favourite film although Dr Zhivago is very close (the 60's version not the more recent one).

    In the four hour extended edition (which has a LOT more exposition), Stands with a Fist's husband died in a war party attack against the Pawnee. I love this film and the wonderful John Barry soundtrack. It won a LOT of awards including Best Director for Costner and Best Picture. I always took his narration as him literally reading out of his journal, just like anyone reading a book out loud.

    All through the years i always hear everyone complain about Costners nararrating voice but i absolutely love it. It's perfect. He was also once a man on the brink of self deletion. So i would expect nothing less than a monotone voice.

    • @okchristina
      @okchristina  6 месяцев назад +1

      I get it and I am sure many agree with you! My own preferred real life style of reading would be a little less monotone, so I think it just fell flat with me in general. I think also I have not forgiven Costner yet for his lazy attempt at a European accent in Robinhood. lol ;)

    Something funny: This was at the movie theater i worked at in HS....on normal 35mm film..the print was so large and heavy, it took three of us to movie it from one projector to another! It was like 100 pounds and 3 feet across! lol Also: Gene Siskel saw this at our theater! Mr. "Small popcorn, no butter, small diet coke please"..he's always order the same thing.

    You should see Little Big Man starring Dustin Hoffman. His character was adopted by Cheyenne. Chief Dan George did a great job as Lodge Skins.

    From my understanding, correct me if I'm wrong, Native American names are determined by observing something significant nearby or an action of the person or combination of them. Stands with fist--because she was found holding a fist in anger at her captors; Ten bears--likely a group of ten bears nearby; Dances with wolves---because they saw him "dancing" with the wolf; etc.

    • @fidenemini111
      @fidenemini111 7 месяцев назад +3

      Yes, it's correct. And the names could change depending on the course of life of a man and depending on his achievements.
      I don't remember the book was it based on true events or was it fiction but I remember the story about one guy who by some unfortunate accident earned the name Shit in aTeepee. No matter how hard he struggled, he couldn't rid of of that name😁.

Im very much looking forward to more movie nights! Im trying to think of movies that i think you will appreciate and enjoy. There is one in particular that comes to mind. If you have not seen it yet, i highly recommend "Driving Miss Daisy".

    THIS movie really helped to whip-up MAJOR White guilt and popular anti-white sentiment during the 90's and which is still pervasive today. Anyway, A Man Called Horse did THIS THEME much better a long time before.

    Wind In His Hair: "The man she mourned for was my Best Friend. It has been hard for me to Like you. But now, I think he went Away because You were Coming..." 😭😭😭
    Often, people were named after what was near them at the time. So, Ten Bears was likely born when the Grizzly Bears were in the river hunting for Salmon (The time you would see 10 bears together).
    Cisco!!!!!!! NOOOOOO!!!!!
    "I am Dances With Wolves. I have nothing to say to you." 😭🤐😡
    Not Two Socks!!!!!!!!!!!! 😭😭😭
    Poor Smiles A Lot, Growing Up before he needed to...😢
    "...I have never smoked it..." This is seriously significant.
    Wind In His Hair calling out at the end will ALWAYS Get Me.

    When you mentioned, it’s not gonna be good fighting with the soldiers, it reminded me of one of sitting bull’s visions prior to Little Bighorn. He told the Warriors not to touch the dead soldiers, but they did. Sitting Bull said that their descendants would be paying for that moment forever. Ironic. 🤔
