Turns out that Dick Van Dyke was in an a cappella group in the past, mostly for fun, according to him. Glad that they got Pentatonix to be part of the honor ceremony for him. Kirstin was on Broadway in part of 2018 in the musical play "Kinky Boots". The guys went to New York to record music, shoot PTX videos and live performances on TV shows with Kirstin while she was on Broadway. They went back on tour after her stint was over. It's great how they all support each other's dreams.
The group you were thinking that Kirstie sang with was Voctave and Kirstie has actually been on Broadway in 2018. Nope not a hidden gem. They just have a ton of music and performances that most of us follow. Especially when they’re on tv. This was when they were honoring Dick Van Dyke’s career. Ptx was asked to perform.
This was filmed on the grounds of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. They give out awards each year, usually in an auditorium. For this year, which was 2021, they scattered the performances all over the grounds: On the roof, in the parking lot, on various sides of the building. The things we went through to keep our distance from each other. Dick van Dyke was one of the honorees that year, which how Chitty Chitty Bang Bang got involved. PTX has performed at the Kennedy Center Honors ceremony before. Tom Hanks enjoyed their rendition of That Thing You Do. (Another hidden gem you probably haven’t seen)
Fun fact, they got to meet Dick van Dyke and someone pointed at Scott and said "that man's gonna play you in the biopic one day" (or something along those line) and Scott did a little dancemove. They do have a similar vibe. That incredibly high energy joyfullness that makes them incapable of sitting still and makes them have to sing!
Hello D, I don't know how you imagine "the Germans", but we listen to a lot more than Rammstein or other German groups. I have been listening to PTX since around 2013. Unfortunately, they are not represented on our radio shows either. But, and you've already responded to this, they had a big live appearance on a very popular German entertainment show. Love this so much! I asked my husband if he knew chitty chitty bang bang and he doesn’t remember at all. But my family has always been into everything musical. All of us play at least one instrument and have been in choirs, and/or barbershop quartets, I remember going to see my great uncle’s perform at the mall.
I still watch the movie. Great music and a great performance by Dick Van Dyke. There is a video of him doing the song in a restaurant with his acapella group. You should check it out.
Growing up, my mom's parents had a toy car from the movie and I loved playing with it. I have no idea what happened to it. I also have never seen the movie. There's another bit from that awards show that PTX is a part of, from Mary Poppins, which includes Derek hough dancing. PTX also has a bit from when Tom hanks was awarded, and that includes Avi.
