Blue and white ceramics never really go out of style, but they do rise and fall. Currently, they are on the rise again. Look for the ceramics that are Chinese from the 1980s and 90s. This is just before the world started sending mass manufacturing to China. These pieces were carried by major high-end department stores, gift and specialty shops and boutiques.
The Blue Willow pattern is the number one, most popular pattern for china to date.
The story of the pattern is from Japanese folklore. The three people on the bridge are two mismatched lovers being chased by her father/guardian. He catches them, throws them off the bridge and they drown. This angers the gods because their love was so pure. The gods turned the lovers into the birds seen at the top of the pattern. This was so that they could fly freely together for all eternity.
The pattern being so popular, was adopted by the makers of restaurant ware and that would become what we know as the blue plate special in diners today.

Our Goodwill never sells loose items in "sets" as marked by individual tags.
They are always in a taped-up box or in a large plastic bag or (God forbid!) bound by that horrible packing tape that usually takes off the paint-- but I get why they do that.
It's disappointing to be unable to buy the complete set like the Disney train pieces in the video.

When I take things to the thrift stores I put items together. I tape them. I wrap them up together. I put notes saying their are other pieces. If people would just take an extra minute to do that things might not get separated. 😁

On that cake plate, I found a 2’ in diameter platter, that same thumbprint/red flash design. Have you ever seen a platter that big? Was it a platter? Or used for something else? Very heavy. Nice but I couldn’t store it any where in my house
