    This is absolutely what you need to do more of! I’m a “mature” user of Haus Labs and I’ve learned an incredible amount of valuable information from your knowledge as an artist. Please do more of these! And one more thing…what is your Gaga tattoo? I was at her final Chromatica show in Miami and it was life changing (and I’m 64!). Do tell!

      I learned to do my eyes first because of Robert Welsh. It felt weird at first, but now it’s like second nature to me to do my eyes first. I always did my base first, only because I used to use my foundation as eye primer, but after I finally discovered makeup RUclips in 2020, I invested in a. Good primer and do my eyes first. I never came to watch you for the makeup, but for your personality, which always leaves me happier. With this video I see a different side of you and dang you know what you're talking about. I loved this video! It’s so nice to have a tutorial like this where someone like yourself who has been doing makeup professionally can explain why certain steps are important and why we should or shouldn’t do certain things within the steps. Thank you for doing this video. Also, I have a question. What is the difference between using a concealer as an eye primer versus an eye primer? I’ve noticed some MUA’s swear we should be using primers and some like yourself use concealer as primer. So I’m not sure of the difference. 😊

    • @JohnnyRoss
      @JohnnyRoss  Год назад +14

      Great question! Depending on the eyeshadow primer, it can definitely add more grip! So for people with more mature skin that crease heavily, people with very oily lids, or when you’re using shimmer/glitter, an gripping eyeshadow primer will prevent that. But for all others, concealer set with a little powder before eyeshadow is fine! ❤

PS… as a woman with mature skin … I’m certainly old enough to be your mama… I do my moisturizer then foundation as soon as I get outta the shower. I wish I could to eyes first but if I wait I feel like my face is gonna crack off! Hahahhaha 😂 So that might be one reason some of us do foundation first. I tried the Dior for mature skin that you said looks great and lasts on your mom but it was just a bit too dry so I went with Estée Lauder double ware applied with my fingers and so far so good! Anyway, we loved the video! Be blessed and stay well… we need you here in this space!😘❤️

    Doing the foundation and setting it with setting powder THEN going in with the blush and bronzer/highlighter etc makes more sense because at the end when it’s all complete you can either lightly go over it again OR use a more hydrating alternative which is a setting spray. I do love that she used the foundation as the primer for her eyes I think I would prefer that over concealer that creases too much in the eye area or just feels heavy on the eyes once you add shadow and mascara. Glad I watched this, great observations and tips!

    Its fascinating how different your opinion is from Robert Welsh. Its basically kinda the opposite, so I find it interesting that two of the greatest make up artists & educators have different techniques but both techniques are good, solid & applicable. I had actually just watched Robert before clicking this video and I was thinking exactly the same! I do think they had a bit of a different approach to the video - as I know that Robert isn't a fan of multiple layers either - but it's a bit of a surprise that some things are opposite. I absolutely loathe powder on my face. Johnny might say that xyz are great for mature skin, but I'm not seeing it. Maybe because my skin isn't just mature, but extremely dry and very sensitive (incl a few eczema patches), so it also feels terrible on my skin besides looking it. My solution: when (IF, in my case, in 8 out of 10 cases I go without BB cream or foundation) I use a base, I simply wait until the foundation is dry before adding the rest, and then still work with care. However, honesty dictates the fact why I rarely have issues, and that's because I seldom use powder products nowadays. I still have a few powder products if they're great. A few blushes, a favourite bronzer and highlighter... Some colours are hard to replace in liquid f.e. But the majority of my makeup is cream/liquid. But if you have oily skin I can't imagine that's an option.

    Definitely loved this kind of video and your honesty was so refreshing. Loved how you explained better ways to do the process without being negative about how she did it. Makeup is artistry and what may work for some may not work for others. I learned a lot from this and I’m excited to try some of your tips. Confession…. I totally nerded out and was taking notes like a school girl in class. When Johnny speaks…. We listen! ❤

    Love how you got into the technical side of things Johnny, I have always questioned if we should do concealer or foundation first! This video is fabulous x

    I loved this video and how you explained things. I agree, she was trying to get as many products as she could in her video. Love Sandy

    Thank you so much for your expertise on this tutorial! I had already watched another make-up artist give a commentary and was curious on your take as well. This is chock full of so much mistake saving advice. I liked you before this babe, but I am now at a whole new level of appreciation for your knowledge and insight! Color me impressed darling ❤

    When I was young this is how we did makeup, we didn't have all these choices of products or brushes. We used our fingers, eyes came last and finished with powder. We put powder blush over foundation because it was what we had, no one told us differently. I had modeling lessons, but too short so I was going to be a makeup artist. This was the way we did it in the 80's.

      That's what I was thinking at the beginning - concealer first, big swipes of it under the eyes, that's how I learned. But maybe not so many layers.

    Personally I can't stand shimmer I can't stand glitter. What she has done is absolutely amazing. I had no idea. Boy I needed this review. I stood and looked at her whole display. Confused. And was like Oh God. I haven't the faintest idea. Thank you so much for this. Literally this was me yesterday. 😵‍💫 😅 Perfect timing
