    It would be a mistake to assume that this only happens in Russia, though in some countries lay people may be more vocal about what is going on among their bishops.

    Filaret Denisenko is an interesting example by the way. By the mid-1950s he was apparently the rising star in the Russian Orthodox Church, and from 1966 onwards was Metropolitan of Kiev, de facto the head of the Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine, which in the Brezhnev era had over half of all Orthodox parishes in the USSR. He was fanatically pro-Soviet and only changed course in the late-1980s and early-1990s when, failing to become Patriarch of Moscow, he decided to install himself as Patriarch in Ukraine and try to cover up his pro-Soviet past. He is still alive today, playing as "Patriarch of Kiev and All Rus" from his single cathedral in Kiev where a few priests and deacons acclaim him as Patriarch, but it seems most people in Russia and Ukraine regard him as a joke.

    In a way it is not different than any other organization. I was in a police force and some people went up quick, others did not or did not want to. Some had connections, some were well educated, some were people with good skills such as networking. There are so many factors. Yes, some were corrupt, but not many. I do not think that the church is much different. I know of some priests who are happy being priests all their lives in country parishes. They do not want to be bishops in cities.

      @@russianchristianityCIA has been reported to infiltrate Evangelical protestant foreign missions in order to influence Latin American politics. The magazine “Christianity Today” did an article on it about 20 years ago. This doesn’t mean those organizations were a mafia, but that missions groups were infiltrated and used. It happens. There were “false Apostles” amongst the real ones reported even within the pages of the New Testament. The devil has no new tricks.

    has the Russian Orthodox Church ever repented and confessed the great sins that happened during the revolution when Communism came to power and a false Orthodox church was put in place and hundreds of thousands of clergy and monastics and regular Orthodox believers were murdered because they did not accept this artificial replacement? In those years the church was mostly KGB in its clergy? just wondering do you think it is the same to this day?

    • @russianchristianity
      @russianchristianity  5 месяцев назад +3

      The Church positions itself as the persecuted one. Which is part true. Initially, the Church was much persecuted and by the 1940s almost destroyed. To be reestablished in the mid 1940s under the state control

  • @fmayer1507
    @fmayer1507 5 месяцев назад +3

    The true and only head of the Orthoxdox Church is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I am Orthodox, and I say that if you want to find the True Church, look at Jesus whovwas persecuted by the world. Jesus said clearly "If they persecuted Me, they will persecute you" when talking to His true followers. Orthodox Churches that are persecuted or that suffer in today’s sinful world are the True Church. Look at Saint Nektarios, who was unjustly persecuted by the Patriarch of Alexandria and by clergy in Greece. Real priests and monks guide and teach what is correct and true, irrespective of bishops. Jesus also said of religious leaders that we are to listen to what they say that is true but not to follow their example if it is wrong. I paraphrased Jesus' words for simplicity, but that is the core meaning of Our Lord's guidance. The Church is the entire body of Christ, NOT any group of bishops. That said, we need to respect our bishops, but we must struggle to follow Christ correctly. Having a good spiritual father is important in our struggle so that we avoid becoming dellusional about our goodness or our ideas that are not consistent with the correct interpretation of the Holy Bible and Holy Tradition as handed down through the Apostles and their successors. Orthodox that are not carrying their cross because they are too worldly need to get back on the narrow path. That is easy to say but hard to do, and I focus on realizing that I must think of myself as the worst sinner and continually repent to avoid falling into dellusion. Satan has had eons to develop an arsenal of weapons against us, and our onky hope is Jesus. This is why I think the Jesus Prayer is so powerful. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit Our God one in essence is above all else. Bishops need to serve God in truth, or they will pay the most severe price for their errors. Maybe we should be praing for them continually.

    @russianchristianity. Educate yourself! Study organisational theory at university level and you will see that a lot of organisations around the world, both good and bad, are structured this way. It's called hierarchy. An hierarchical structure tells you absolutely nothing about whether the organisation is good or bad. It's what the organisation do that makes all the difference.
