Bryan and Megan, for any steps or routine , you need to have music with them for final demonstration. If we know the steps but don’t know where to use it, it’s no use. That is why the person asked how it’s different from Rumba? From the music we can tell , and feelings of the same steps are different in different music.

      Hello,
We do music is a lot but not all of our videos. Thanks for the suggestion.
Balero is different than rumba via the steps.
The basic step for rumba is a box for balero it is a sideways basic.
The two dances, while counted the same way are completely different patterns.
The feeling of the two dances are actually similar both slower and smooth.
It is good to notice different basic (origin) pattern of ach dance so it can help you deleniate between each style, a lot of dance can be done to the same syle songs. For instance rumba cha cha and balero could potentially go to the same song. The speeds of each dance woould vary but they could use the same song.
I hope this helps explain the difference between rumba and balero. 😊 If you ever have any questions feel free to email us! Our email is on our website. www.socialdanceonline.com

I've watched a lot of dancers dancing to slow Latin music, in 4/4 time, doing what I assume is either Bolero or International Rumba or some combination of the two. I've noticed that some couples dance on 1 (so steps are on beats 1, 2 3), while others dance on 2 (steps on 2, 3, 4). When the music is slow, dancing on 2 somehow seems more elegant. Do you have any recommendations?

Specific dances have specific counts. Like waltz can start on 1 or 4 of the music but most try to start on 1.
rumba can start on 1 or 5, same with bolero.
Salsa has different versions. Salsa on the 1, Salsa on the 2, and then there is mambo.

Hmm interesting. I am not familiar with Brazilian bolero. I will have to look into it.
Dances can differ in different countries and regions.

How is it different from international rumba? Is it slower?

The two different dances have different basic patterns. While they might share a pattern or two, the original pattern is not the same.
They can potentially be dances to the same songs as well. Its the patterns and the character of the dance that is what make them different.
Speed wise i actually think they are relatively the same. However international rumbas patterns are very different than balero patterns and american rumba is also different.
That might be a very interesting video in our future 😊
On our website and here on youtube you can look at the difference between american rumba and balero.
