I didn't read this particular novel but I'm very, very pleased with the show. Not many well made King's work adaptations out there. It's beautifully shot, well acted, mature, deals with heavy subjects like a loss, grief, beaing isolated, different... good dark ambientish score, perfectly fitting. There are some natural moments of levity also and I was laughing sometimes, didn't expect that. I give this 8 out of 10.
What I love is the way the director "hides" many parts of the scene with something "in the way". Whether it be a wall, a hallway, a window in a door, a person's outline...it's just brilliant and gives one the feeling that "someone is watching" but not you.
S.L.Downum Yes! I was so surprised to find out I had just unknowingly viewed him in a Star Wars rogue one! (I think that was the film’s name. Don’t sue me if I’m wrong! 😆)

Have you read his book "On Writing?" It's half autobiography/half manual on the craft. It's really witty, and interesting, while also being informative.

@@siranonymous1433 man arrested for murder, evidence places him at the scene and evidence places him out of town at the same time. How is this possible? That's about it.
The funny thing is that my favourite Stephen Kings stories are not horrors at all; 11.22.63, Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption, Green Mile. To call him just a king of horror books is wrong, he's all-round a great writer.
Just finished the last episode and man, what a terrific show this is. Come on HBO: you dropped the ball by not getting your hands on The Dark Tower. The Amazon series has collapsed, so get on that pronto. Also, Ben Mendelsohn and Cynthia Erivo deserve some sort of Emmy recognition for their performances.
I loved the book and the show is just as good. I do love the Holly character and hope she shows up in future books like how Alan Pangborn was in several early King books. As much as I loved this book and show there are still many underrated King books that deserve a miniseries like The Talisman, Rose Madder, Insomnia, Duma Key and others.

Wow just found out about this last night and binge watched 8 episodes. SK is still at the top of his game. Don't like his politics but goddamn can he scare the shit out of you. Been an avid reader since the 80s.
Crackle Crack - currently a series with S1 having 10 eps... Just premiered in the UK, it’s definitely a good series - not read the book but thinking doppelgänger or shapeshifter or identical twin with exact genetic code markers (rare cases have been reported)... looking forward to finding out 😊
Do you thinking is my all-time idol. It would mean the absolute world to me if that one day I could meet him. I want to be just like him when I get older which I know is very unlikely but I still have dreams. I’m only 10 years old but Stephen King has help me realize that a book isn’t just a boring stack of papers with boring words on it. Someday I wish that I will meet saving him. The movie IT is my favorite movie in the whole world I think the humor and the horror at the same time is the best combination. I’m trying to start writing a little more but I’m not too good at it. But again I still have dreams and thank you Stephen king again for inspiring me to do better.
After all the RUclips advertisements (UUgh!), I figured it's Stephen King, I'll try it. Watched first two episodes in a row. it's intense, but I want the characters to be more likable - sorta in that 80-early 90s Stephen King miniseries way; though it's probably the 9/11 effect on our culture... So, the boogieman in a hoodie, finally makes an appearance (the dialogue really starts to talk about supernatural elements) in Episode 3. Can't wait!
Excellent character development in the book. I highly recommend the book. These first two episodes were close to the first half of the book if that puts it into perspective for ya.
I met Mr King at a book store signing when i was 16 in 1976, id just read Salems Lot. It was a small Book store, he was just getting started. I argued with him a part of his book, and where he came up with the idea for the town. I can still see him, he had black long hair. Sarcastic.
Holly Gibney was in Mr Mercedes series and done quite well by Justine Lupe why dose Hollywood do shit like that change character race and or gender how is any one going to keep track of the timeline???
The actress from mr.Mercedes was pretty close to how I imagined Holly. IMO the perfect Holly should look like Saga Noren from original The Bridge series.
I always pictured Felicity Jones playing Holly Gibney while I was reading the novel... The shy, next door looks with a sense of insecurity around other PPL... God I would have loved her play Holly
One has to wonder why a person wants to write such cruelty and horror and what psychological issues a person has who chooses to watch this and find it entertaining?
It would have been nice if there was some context to your writings on each particular anime. Are you just summarizing the series? Are you making reference to your favorite episodes? Characters? Something else entirely? Other than that, very nice!

Did you read the book? I'm reading the some of the same reviews on rotten tomatoes. They are saying the story drags too much and the ending is...not so great.
HBO actually making something worth watching lately? This show is rather amusing since it appears to be good but wondering when the wahman takes over. I mean really, most all TV/movies write in their agenda and its clear nothing else matters. Either the wahman is always in total control while trying to be a man, or making fun of men with their old shaming soundbites. Watchmen was so far that way it was comical. Last season of Westworld was full of it also. But this one appears to be more normal with men & women just acting. Not sure how it got pass the wildcat feminist though, or HBO allowed it to be made. Stephen King needs a contract with HBO AND GIVE THEM AND THEM ONLY THE RIGHTS TO DO HIS WORKS!
I'd kinda like to see them buy the rights to the Dark Tower from Amazon
Hulu did a great job with 11.22.63 so it's not just HBO that is capable of doing good book-based series.
happzy I agree. Castle Rock is also not amazing, but there are definitely some awesome things about both seasons.
The stand will never be done right.....sad
