Stephen King Questions God, Faith In ‘Revival’ | TODAY
For an author who has written some of the most horrific books, he sure does give off an incredibly positive energy!
walk4 miles like he does every day. It'll get your endorphins going and life will start to look beautiful. He's also doing what he loves, and that brings positivity and joy to anyone.
All that talent and horrific books have Stephen King on the wrong team. Separation from God is death not physically dying. For those who believe in Jesus, they have eternal life with God. Stephen King has chosen to pass on that possibility. How do I know this to be true? He said it himself. "People who believe strongly in an afterlife have further to fall."
@@augustbarone7189 i took it like hes curious. the fact that he can explore our dark side without falling into "IT" means Holy Spirit is walking with him... hmmm but his ego is preventing him from talking to him... religion is a distraction... when YOU can tell me what religion (war chief) Jesus is then we can debate lol
Stephen King has really helped me explore my own Christian faith. I don't think it's as simple as 'scary books bad. Fluffy books good'.
I know this will sound weird to some people and to some they will sadly know where I'm coming from. Stephen King saved my sanity as a teenager. When i read his books i could leave my horrible home life for a few chapters at a time. If I'm honest more than a few chapters at a time. But i digress. When people talk about his drug/alcohol abuse. He's human. Mr. King is the one who told us He had a problem. He's overcome His addictions and is a better man for it. Also from what i see and hear His kids are well adjusted human beings. Be like Stephen King!
Signing up for your words, mister Chery, great attitude!😊
2:51 that guy, son, that guy is Stephen king.
What a storyteller this man is. So many greats books, so many.
Damn, I'm not even done with It, Cujo, Dr. Sleep, Mr. Mercedes nor Misery and the man launches a new one? I will never catch up!
Especially as he will never die.
Maybe, but the ride is a blast!
Kristin McBride Indeed, it is.
Miganishi And Finders Keepers is out 2 june ... :D Good luck with catching up hehe :)
Tell me about it. I just got properly info Stephens books last year, accumulated a good few of his books so far both old and new. But the list of his works is so daunting. It's my goal to own every book he's written though.
Personally not religious, and while I may not agree with all the points he made it's understandable why he believes (or at least chooses to believe) in a god.
Wow, what a remarkable man. He will always be my favorite author. Just finished Revival and it is thought-provoking and incredibly astounding. I can also appreciate Stephen King's belief in God. If anyone is interested in what he is discussing by saying that "there is nothing to lose by believing in God", he is appealing to a philosophical argument entitled Pascal's Wager and I encourage anyone who is interested to research it. The philosophical reasoning has convinced me of the existence of God and it has certainly convinced Mr. King as well.
You mean Pascal's scam ? That argument is as old as it is flawed.
The belief in God is wishful thinking, nothing philosophical in it.
Leah Shell Sunomis has it right. Pascal's Wager is a logical fallacy.
Terrible reason to believe. (or more like fake belief, to be honest)
@Random L3vel I'm not debating that and I actually agree with you on this. My point is that you don't decide which proposition is correct by "wagering" à la Pascal.
@Random L3vel Yes, I know the meaning of Pascal's wager. This implies infinite punishment vs finite reward, but it doesn't take into account that God's existence might be infinitely improbable.
Anyway, when I posted this four years ago I used to enjoy those discussions, but I don't anymore. If the subject interests you, there are many videos that discuss the philosophical implications of the wager (rather than theological videos).
Have a nice evening.
Pascal probably wrote it as a joke, and Richard Dawkins blows it clean out of the water. One problem with it is, which god should we believe in? It might be safer to not believe in any of them than choose the wrong one. (In the Bible, pathologically jealous Yahweh is always enraged when his followers cheat with Baal.) Another problem is, why does this god demand, above all else, BELIEF in him/her/it? Might not the god require kindness, logical thinking or anything else instead? And like someone else here pointed out, belief is not really a choice; I can't up and choose to believe in the Easter Bunny. So a person could only fake belief, which the god might disapprove of more than honest disbelief.
he's brilliant and funny!
Stephen has got an amazing laugh i'm alright with you
I knew Stephen King was a true believer for sure when I was done reading DESPERATION. That book leaves no doubt as to his faith. King has faith in the God of the Holy Scriptures
Like The Stand. Amazing
And the Green Mile!
What’s that one about ?
I read Revival when it came out, and I really enjoy the story of this preacher who lost faith in God after the tragic loss of his wife and child. He lost his way and become angry and disillusioned with life. It's a Frankenstein tale. It's beautifully written like all his novels.
LOVE Stephen and his works since I was a kid.
Faith in God goes far beyond religious traditions and beliefs. It's a relationship between us and our Creator, our Father in Heaven. When someone calls someone else out for their own thoughts and opinions, it's the religion that does it. Not the belief itself. If more Christians focuses on what Christ would do instead of what we would do, then the Salem witch trials and the Spanish Inquisition wouldn't have happened.
the faith is in the goat herders that originated the myths. in order to have faith in a god, or a relationship with a god, that god would have to exist. the faith rests on the goat herders being right. the fact that the ancient texts are obvious products of the people of that place and time, and the idea that a deity would only reveal itself to few people in one part of the world and then rely them to get it written...shows that it's just ancient mythology.
Odd flex but do you respect my disbelief in God?
I think what you mean to say is that... In times of trouble, call for help from The Turtle.
I am God. Give me, God all your money.
*Disease* .
I love you Stephen King!
"Something to look forward to. In the dark, where no one can hear you scream."
Mother is a good villain
They really show clips of Kubrick shinning in front of mr king
He's not very bright.
Titus McCarthy r bbbbbhh
Just finished Revival, and I thought Pet Semetary was bleak. How wrong I was. The thought that no matter how good a life you live and do good, you will eventually die and end up in the hellish dimension of the Null and the monstrous Mother . *Shivers * They don't call him the King of Horror for nothing
I'm a Christian and I love and support Mr. King.
*I'm sorry for you* .
@@lucyedlund7987 be sorry for yourself for thinking others should share the same opinions and beliefs as you.

It's better to believe than not to believe 😍 It's a win win situation✊
No it's not
@Pierro Losapio I'm atheist and don't have friends, I'm fine, I don't mind being alone, I when I read books I never feel alone.
@Random L3vel No it's not.
@Pierro Losapio I don't have friends because I don't need them, I don't need validation and approval from others, I'm happy with who I am.
@Random L3vel Who said I'm sad?
When we are filled with understanding, we'll know, presence in heaven with God, is where we want to be. Exercising disobedience robs us of His blessings. Obedience causes God to step forward in our life. Disobedience makes him step back to let us have our way. Don't miss your blessings
Very few celeb/authors interviews catch my interest like a good sit down with Stephen King. I’m always interested to know how the king of horror views the world.
The idea of an inevitable, hellish afterlife regardless of what your beliefs or deeds are in life is actually a pretty good metaphor for the anxiety people have about there being no afterlife at all. People are so terrified of nonexistance that the closest approximation we're capable of is Hell, regardless of the fact that no afterlife means that you will simply detach as your body and brain breaks down and basically fall into a dark, endless sleep. You're not going to feel pain, or fear, or misery, or anything else ever again. But its impossible to really imagine because we have no way of grasping not existing, so fear is the only response we're capable of.
I hope Mr. King comes to believe in Jesus. I'm glad he believes in God.
Have you ever seen "the stand?" If not watch a few clips on you tube. Awesome film. Very spiritual
He losely believes in God.. he has a "just in case" view of belief. Any (existant) God would see thru that type of belief. Respect to the man though because many people have the same reasoning he has and aren't bold enough to say it.
@@matthewlong3716 I don't know. He may not be religious in the traditional sense, writes pretty dark stuff, but he did say his belief in God helped him pull through addiction, so there may be more there than meets the eye, he is just agnostic about what God is, and is not into organized religion. Him and I would have differences of opinion on many issues, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Its so beautiful how his belief in God gave him the strength to overcome his addictions, I myself have used faith to deal with personal demons. Also the fact that he has no fear of death shows he has profound conviction in his beliefs. I dont think he is strictly religious, but that he has a broader understanding of God than christian dogma teaches, basically because hes too smart to buy into it wholesale.
Listening to this book right now. Enjoying it a lot!
Love Stephen King! One of my favorites of his is 11-22-63 about the Kennedy assassination. I wrote my own novel about faith--Gladiator 37--about a warrior forced to confront his past and trust a God he doesn't believe in. Check out the animated trailer: ruclips.net/video/iLZeH_X4brA/видео.html
Excellent trailer. Where can I read the book?
Everyone has their own faith and I believe we should explore the work if god more
Stephen King is the greatest author of all time!
Was he was never right after accident I stopped reading his stuff
Actually Steven King, you are expecting a revival more than anyone👍👍👍
Me and King share very similiar religious beliefs. I definitely believe in God (even thought its more panentheistic than the usual christian) and I am a bit iffy on an afterlife
That's sad. You and he need to repent of your sins and receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior.
God bless you Stephen King. God has gifted you an incredible imagination!
They are zooming in and out from different angles like its a football game...it's two people talking.
People who believe in God only do it because it benefits them in some way or another.
Extremely selfish I would say
Hope he gets saved. He's halfway there. Just needs Jesus and repentance
Crafty Momma - No, he needs to repent of his sins, and receive Jesus as his Lord and Savior.
Julie Nielsen repent for what?
All the sins he has committed over his life time.
Julie Nielsen what sins?
We all have committed sins.
We should always see what God see’s in Us!
His story is Lovecraftian, if you guys don't know search for HP Lovecraft, although he was kind of a racist guy, he still one of the most influential writer in the history. You can see influence of his works through today's arts and stories in games, movies and books.
His stories are good, but it gets a bit uncomfortable when you realize a lot of his horror is based on his disgust at the idea of races mixing through intermarriage, because he thought it would "dillute" the English-stock gene pool.
the button, the button, i can't stop thinking about Matt's button lol
Revival does indeed have a terrifying ending. Just finished reading and I’m trying to find any info on the null💀
I have read Cthulhu Mythos those of Lovecraft and King's Revival baffled me a little bit.
Is it fictional or real phrase: "That is not dead which can eternal lie, And with strange aeons even death may die"?
In Revival King mentioned some forbidden books. Is it phrase fro those books?
Thats just a phrase from Lovecrafts works, its from The Call Of Cthulhu. It doesnt exist outside Lovecrafts mythos and the works referencing it.
I believe that all living beings are an integral part of the One Perfect Omnipotent, Omniscient, Omnipresent, Beginningless, Unconditionally Loving Source which sustains us all, and which Loves us all, and I believe that Jesus Christ is One with this Source.
And you base this on what, exactly?
Henrik Magnusson perhaps on the same thing every other believer bases. Faith.
Nobody chooses to believe. Based upon knowledge and experience we arrive at our beliefs. The fact that he says he chooses to believe suggests that he doesn't really.
that 9yr old kids in the backround
Stephen king my respect 4 u just grew knowing your a man of God
He just said he's agnostic, and you haven't grown just because you believe in a fictional character
socially inept spider-man He’s not mature because he believes god created the universe? I’d rather believe in a creator, than believe that the universe came from nothing. You atheist always are angry at us Christians for some reason.
socially inept spider-man You say he hasn’t grown, but you’re a fan of Spider-Man and anime.😂 what a clown.
HE TOLD MY BOI TO KNOCK IT OFF!!
There are those like Mr King, late in lifers, who have never investigated the resurrection of Jesus, simply relying on you gut instinct and reasoning without the facts will be at your own reckoning! Good luck bud
Listen this kind of men is the best way to learn to write and to be a better person.
Maybe because all the elements of fear the he imagined and tried to wrote must have been to much for him that he "chose" to believe in that higher power called "god"... Either, he's still one of my favorite fiction writers... Just wish he wise up and face fiction head on...
King questions "faith, god, and what lies beyond death" in everything he's ever written.
"Something to look forward to.. In the dark where no one can hear you scream" the king of horror
A successful author who never lost respect for his craft
I never pegged Stephen King as someone who believes in God.
Or does he.
DerickE That’s what he said in the video...
The way he wrote the character in “Revival” was very believable. He must of thought/read a fair bit about the subject.
He's said so in several interviews. And many of his books have Christian characters, themes, etc.
Stephen king est très talentueux
Un des meilleurs
The ending of this book in particular is pretty deliciously nihilistic.
It's all about context!
I feel sorry for people who don’t know God.
Huh. I admit I'm a little disappointed to learn he believes in God. Sounds like AA got to him. Maybe (big maybe) belief in God makes some people happy, but, “The fact that a believer is happier than a skeptic is no more to the point than the fact that a drunken man is happier than a sober one." Brush up on your George Bernard Shaw, Stephen!
Book was amazing
There is a lot to be said about organized religion in the “last days”. Think on it..........
that ending :(
It's so freaking scary.
I know I finished it and I literally had to sit down for a while and process it. It's his darkest ending ever.
Arya Stark
Dont worry, atleast in real life you dont have to worry about that, since we probably just cease to exist at all when we die
Henrik Magnusson That's a pretty big "probably" coming from someone who knows as much about life after death as anyone else that's ever lived. Doesn't matter anyway. Whether it be oblivion, hell dimension or something else entirely; we have no control over it whatsoever. The ultimate and complete loss of human control, if we ever really had any to begin with. Such arrogant animals are we.
Henrik Magnusson we won't cease because we are energy and have mater that can't be destroyed.
Stephen King Rules !!!
Jesus Rules !!!!!!!
Read the Bible Mr king
He has...
@@colleenc5932 I sure hope so but have my doubts
Stephen King needs an amulet! Ha ha!
Don’t you mean “Gan”?
revival c'est passionnant
I believe in God, just not an afterlife. I love Him anyway.
I read 15 books by him so far, and Revival is my least favorite. It's a great book, but I didn't feel like I was in the story, like I felt reading the other books
Pennywise
I love his sense of trolloridom.
Even more of a chill up our spines and vaginas with that gross out
💡Thats because hes wired up to DECEPTION.. Do not be decieved god is not mocked
Be smart and accept to be unhappy and questioning, and tormented, or be ignorant and be happy not worrying about greater issues. Bless in ignorance.
There is a downside if you believe in an imaginary place like a heaven. Because if you think that you are going to heaven anyway, maybe you are then not really caring about your current life, I guess that is kind of a threat. If you are not believing in a heaven or something like this you have every reason to make the best out of this one life you have, because it is the only chance you have got to make it right.
In my opinion religion is just an abondenment of logical thinking and it's just lazy to stop reasearching all about this unisverse during this limited time we have got and believe in a supernatural being and supernatural places that we end up being at after we die. It's comforting, I am sure, but also lazy and often even dangerous..
DennisTheGamer Agreed. It's sad that we're now living in a world where information is now freely given and that we have all the ability to search for answers as opposed to the Dark Ages and yet people still obstinately cling on outdated superstitious beliefs.
I hope you have an awakening soon.
+James Barnett To what?
Why is it lazy? Faith is what sustains a believer throughout his or her life. Opening your heart and accepting Jesus is a way to live this one life we have to the fullest. I encourage you to search it out and open your mind and heart to it...
You got anything besides empty platitudes?
Stephen King was IT based on characters and places in East Tennesee too many coincidences.
Being a great writer doesn't mean you're realistic.
He chose to believe because he had a net benefit. I don't think their is a net negative effect of not believing either.
He needs to repent of his sins and receive Jesus as his Lord and Savior. Not just choose to believe in God.
How does one *choose* a belief?
I mean you either believe or you do not, based on weather or not you are convinced of something or not. Otherwise you are just *pretending* to believe.
Lying to yourself (or others) as it were.
+blfry Run, dude. This is not the territory of reason, it's a territory of most illogical, lethal for mind disease called "faith". It reigns supreme here.
Otkusi Sebe Chlen Haha.... very true.
God has given us free will to choose to believe or not to believe. No one is forced to be a believer. So by saying what he said, he demonstrates the key tenet if Christianity.
Faith is a disease? What about hope and love? Are those afflictions as well?
James Barnett Yup. They have all objective qualities of a disease, so yes.
Sadly most people will never see Heaven because this is a Christ-rejecting world.
Heaven is overrated

Yeah, and too exclusive. I've never been a fan of elite clubs...
hateTheNewWorldOrder If you were born in the Middle-East or India, you'd believe in a completely different set of nonsensical concepts. Explain.
Says the one who was cast out...
Many cultures have imposed religion as a way of controlling the populace. I encourage you to learn about Jesus and his love for you. It's a peace worth knowing and having in your life.
Master of horror
look at these people whine cause mr king chooses to believe in the obvious choice he found whille exploring the dark side of "it". read "needful things" to see satan/temptation in a human form.
After reading The Revival, I can honestly say that my former favorite author needs to retire. In his golden years, Mr. King has become a VERY woke and bitter author, subtly spewing his far left venom at his longtime fans. He has become a typical, cranky, old person that thinks HIS views on religion and politics are the right ones, and he creates superficial, cardboard characters to get his pathetic messages to the masses. Shame on Mr. King, and shame on me for purchasing and reading this book..... which is so full of dog whistles I lost count of them.
I must say, from ages 14 through 45, I considered this man the best at what he did. This is the gifted writer that gave us The Shining, 'Salem's Lot, The Dead Zone, Firestarter, Carrie, Christine, Cujo, The Stand and many more. It's really heartbreaking that he chose the radical route. The bitter and radical man that wrote this novel (Revival) couldn't possibly write another enjoyable classic like the aforementioned novels. He has went from a masterful storyteller for all, to a radical leftie for a select few. His last 5 or so novels prove this, with Revival being the final nail. Goodbye Mr. King, it was good while it lasted.
Why does King need to believe in that shit?
I thought his passions were writing and rock 'n roll. That should cover all bases.
Humbert Humbert
Bullshit. You need rehabilitation.
seen it happen thousands of times. there is no rehabilitation. hopeless variety alcoholic/addicts who do not experience the psychic change that comes with a surrender will live out the rest of their lives in misery as a best case scenario. most cases they just die young. educate yourself. i've been to about 5 funerals in the just over 10 months i've been sober. how many have you been to? i'd like to see you look into the eyes of those parents and say what you just said. these people have been in and out of treatment their entire lives just because they've been told "they just need rehabilitation" and now they're dead. king fortunately knows this and is able to stay with us to provide us with his fantastic storytelling.
also spirituality=/=religion
there's a massive difference between blind faith and perceived experiences
Humbert Humbert
There's also a massive difference between perceived, personal experiences, and corroborated empirical evidence.
No one mentioned priests. And I'm not in any way religious. Sounds like you have a lot of resentment and delusion since your father's passing. Educate yourself about whats in the book alcoholics anonymous. Have a great day.
Matt Lauer...bleah 🤢🤮
Reminds me of creepy Alan Kafton
So much spoiles I might as well not read it
mistyapril29 no spoilers at all, actually. Not one.
Read about Stephen King celebrating the Republican train crash that left one person dead. Yeah, he's a total creep. I would not make any cruel comments about any democrats being in an accident. People should be a little more considerate about commenting on when things like this happen.
Where's your source? Would love to read it.
I knew there was a reason I didn't read Revival.
Janet Aldrich just had to throw that bit of vitriol into the ether, huh? Good for you.
Savannah Darling Do you know what vitriol means? I made a comment. Vitriol would have been me tearing the book apart having never read it.
In the Quran, you do good works to go to heaven. In the bible, it's blind faith for a slave caste. Muhammad even wrote that the ink of a scholar is worth more than a martyr. I'm not Muslim, as I am unable to be in my culture, but the Quran makes sense. I still read the Bible and the Quran both.
I suspected SK believed in god and did it because of A.A. rehab. I love the guy and his books (one of my fav authors)... too bad he’s fallen for the two worst arguments for the existence of god. Pascal’s Wager is the most horribly, flimsy (and cowardly) argument put forward so far. And having wishful thinking driving your beliefs is very harmful and a weak argument. I would bet 90% of the American public buys into these arguments. Having an imaginative story using ‘supernatural’ events is fine because these are hardwired into our reptilian brain and make us human, binding us together. But as for god’s existence... no evidence and therefore no belief
I'm a huge Stephen King fan but he chooses to believe because it's better to believe than not to? Stupid reason. Pascal's Wager has been debunked many times.
He also said that believing helped him overcome addictions. So I think he also believes in the divine power of God. That's what I got out of it anyway. When you are in the darkest deepest place, you either make the choice to try to scramble along the slippery sides till you wear out, or you beg for a ladder up. He begged for the ladder and got it.
@@shadesofgray5476 couldn't have put it better myself!
Wrong answers, Stephen King. ...Hope you learn the truth, real soon.

+ToxicWastoid No it isn't. Avoid people who tell you what to read and what not.
+D Well, I decided to read it all by myself.
Pascal's wager, pff.
Makes a good show, but inwardly a miserable, disturbed and morally twisted man, evident through his imagination. Turn from the false god of money, Stephen, turn to God's Son, Jesus Christ, before it's too late! You, too, readers! Peace.
If one truly turns away, they were never on the way to begin with. :(
