  • Police are continuing to hunt for a former soldier accused of terrorism who is believed to have escaped from a prison kitchen by clinging to a delivery van.
Daniel Abed Khalife, 21, went missing in his cook’s uniform from HMP Wandsworth on Wednesday, prompting extra security checks at major transport hubs.
There are fears the fugitive - who has been missing since 8am on Wednesday - might be attempting to flee the country.
The Sun reported that a source close to the investigation said Khalife used makeshift straps to tie himself to the underside of a grocery van which then drove him out of the prison.
Dennis in Kettering, who worked in the prison system, explains to TalkTV’s Peter Cardwell how “a breakdown in procedure” may have allowed Daniel Khalife to escape.
Dennis: “I think the whole thing has been over-egged here.”
Peter: “A prisoner has escaped Dennis!”
The head of the Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorism Command, Commander Dominic Murphy, said there was “no reason to believe Khalife poses a threat to the wider public” but urged people not to approach him and to call 999 if they spot him.
Justice Secretary Alex Chalk has held an urgent call with the prison governor and senior staff in the prison service to seek assurances about what is being done to ensure the jail is secure.
A Prison Service spokesman said: “We are working with the Metropolitan Police to recapture this prisoner and are urgently investigating how he escaped.”

He made a fake bomb and tried to convince people it was real. Sounds like a prank gone wrong. Hes not a threat at all. I have to hand it to this guy. Hope he evades the feds and lives a long life on some beach in the bahamas. Well deserved 👏👏👏

If you can't find him go for the person who helped him escape because I'm sure you're not given a chef's uniform when you enter prison so where did he get it from, or rather who, did he get it from.

A terror suspect sent to a category B prison? 🤔 Why not just send him to Pontins in Southport? Then again, maybe not. I hear that everyone wants to escape from there.

What terrorist would leave two unexaploadable devices where they could easily be found? For how smart/conniving they are trying to depict him, military training, resourcefulness… blaa blaa I’m not buying it. I think it was a cry for attention but the boy didn’t understand just how serious the implications of his very stupid actions would be. The data he apparently would have had access to isn’t very sensitive or highly classified especially not to an extent where another countries intelligence agency would be highly interested in it.
The fact he was awaiting trial with quite possibly what would surmount to trumped up charges of breaching the OSA stacked against him, aiding a hostile countries intelligence which is treason. Reality must have sunken in, I think this was another desperate move by a troubled young lad.
I have to admit I am impressed he’s managed to evade authorities this long and I believe he’s actually innocent in regards to leaking intel and that the British justice system just want to make an example of him.

@@Cornwall1888 except he escaped from prison not evaded arrest so he's at least been arrested and probably charged with terrorism, and his escaping doesn't imply innocence either, nor does his continued evasion. Usually escapees are caught trying to go to friends or family.
You have a point about the distinction between suspect and convicted but I feel suspected terrorist is clearer than terror suspect (which would include people like Humza Yusef who radicalise people but operate in a legal grey area) and would be more fitting in this case given my prior reasoning. He's at least partially through the conviction process, and has not behaved as if he believes the evidence will support his innocence.
