- A deaf woman forms a bond with an unlikely stranger.
NOISE is used with permission from Michael Aloyan. Learn more at cinemaloyan.com.
Sophie stands by herself staring at the ocean. Lost in her own world and thoughts -- as well as being deaf -- she is oblivious at first to the stranger who begins to share her spot on the pier, trying to photograph the local scene.
Eventually, they strike up a conversation via hand gestures and facial expressions, and Sophie and Bemo spend the afternoon together, forming an unlikely bond that flourishes despite their lack of shared language. But that growing bond and attraction is challenged in its own way, and what seems like a straightforward romance becomes a meditation on attraction, love and the vivid, fleeting nature of it all.
Writer-director Michael Aloyan's short romance traces the beginning of an attraction, beginning with the requisite "meet cute" and proceeding until what's traditionally regarded as the next step. Charming, simple but beautifully shot and well-performed, watching two different individuals find common ground and then attraction is lovely, especially when the storytelling highlights how their lack of shared language seemingly makes space for a more intimate, vulnerable connection.
There isn't much dialogue in the film, but strong sound design offers a glimpse of what's it like to be in Sophie's head, experiencing music as rhythmic thumps and exploring a subjectivity that is rich in sensation, even if she can't hear sound. Sharing some of that with Bemo forms one of the most evocative and heart-warming moments in the film, and it's easy to see why they become so taken with one another.
Actress T.J. Carpio plays Sophie's hearing impairment lightly, but traces her growing openness to Bemo with great responsiveness and emotional honesty. Actor Shvan Aladdin plays off her well as Bemo, essaying a role notable for its warmth and kindness, and the two's connection flourishes, even if they don't seem to have much-shared ground yet.
As Sophie and Bemo develop other ways to share their selves and lives outside of spoken conversation, the film seems to function as a romantic montage leading to a high point of consummation, gracefully threading through their growing intimacy in a series of beautifully etched vignettes. But in a subtle but clever set of twists, the storytelling upends those narrative expectations, making what seems like a straightforward romance into something unexpectedly meditative and even melancholy.
Without giving too much away, NOISE seems to question just what the origin of attraction is, what role and importance common ground -- whether it's through shared language or other values -- plays in love and what do we gain or give up when rushing into romance. This narrative turn is gently accomplished without melodrama, but it's enough that when the would-be couple comes back together, the emotional tenor of the story is markedly different from the beginning. It's not unlike real life, perhaps, when the beautiful "castle in the sky" created by two people's mutual romantic fantasy and momentum reveals itself as the fragile edifice it is -- and the couple must decide what's really holding it up, and whether that's enough to sustain it. - Кино
I loved this short movie. They both knew the right decision to make when faced with temptation. They chose the higher moral path of patience and trust instead of the easy and selfish way. It wasn't an easy decision.
Well said.. The "sacrifices" is actually perhaps the real mark of the measurement of the level of love level, the actual ingredient and hence the resilience of the relationship. Am i right?.
I come across people like you who are capable of thinking so deeply only on the comment section of such "out of the box" movies. Glad to know such people exist on this same planet.
I agree with you. Very well expressed. They were both very lucky to find each other, to meet someone with such beautiful values. The ending was perfect. There was nothing further to write. They understood one another.
What are the chances of meeting two people in one day? For me, it's more like one person every seven years or so.
Turn off your pc, turn off your phone. Go outside.
I feel you sam
Even if you turn everything off go tothe beach chances are nobody worth connecting with will be there waiting to happen. Either you meet through a friend or you get a number for a future date. Nobody gets in a cab to a guy's house...don't even know their name. It's not wise IMO
Clearly you don't maintain a subscription Deaf Wanderlust Weekly's Daily Freebies destination guide like us go-getters.

Ther's always someone for everyone. someone is waiting for you right now.
This almost made me cry. I just knew they were going to go their separate ways once noticing someone more compatible but they still chose each other 😍😩
Did they, though? Both looked very uncomfortable when the camera turned off. I thought for sure Sophie was about to leave.
Auntie Alias yea I thought the same but maybe they still were thinking about what just happened. Maybe eventually they tried out the other person but I still commend them on not taking up the offer of temptation when it was presented. Maybe their night would have went even better with the people they had more in common with but they still chose to see how things would go with each other. Respect and patience are what they displayed in the end.
This is my best scenes too. ❤️
I think once the initial attraction dimmed down they started feeling awkward with each other and regretting letting someone they had more in common with get away. I could be wrong but that does happen quite a bit - staying with someone out of a notion that because things started out so great that the entire relationship from then on will be great as well, but then time makes things more apparent and you realize happy beginnings don't always lead to happy endings.
Amazing actors and storyline. To portray the nobility and dignity of two unique human beings forming a fledgling relationship despite the differences in communication styles, culture, and gender was fantastic. It reminds me of my wife and me. She is Chamoru from the island of Guam. Born and raised with certain cultural values, expectations and behaviors. I am from Chicago of mixed blood (black and white) who grew up with one foot on the streets and the other in education. I joined the military, saw the world, went to war, and came across a beautiful island where my path crossed with an exotic woman who took a chance and risk with an "outsider". We've had our challenges and misunderstandings through the years. However, she just told me over our morning coffee how much she feels she has grown into herself and in love with me. We've been married now over 10 years and have 5 sons together. Come what may, I look toward eternity with my island soulmate. I look forward to seeing more from Michael Aloyan, T.J. Carpio (you are such a wonderful actress!), and Shvan Aladdin (great actor!).
Wow, just wow.Beautiful!Bless you, your wife and your children.Wish you luck and happines in life.❤
Your story is even FAR more inspiring than this short!
Hi. Thanks for telling your story. Where do you end up living may I ask?
Maybe you should write a book about it, I'm sure they'd be interested. You never know. There's a whole world out there nobody ever sees and your very fortunate to have seen some of it. Treasure those memories and pass them down to your family, because that's all we have in this world.
Wooow. Your story is just beautiful. I pray mother nature to bless both of you and your children with lots of fun and happiness. Love from one of the children of mother nature.
I imagine the director was very happy when that seagul landed LOL it was nice
I mean you can just hire a FBI agent to control one of the government security drones
Yea even the actor expressed real joy over what happened I guess, unless it's a post process kind of thing

This is nice to see! He is using body gesture and paper to communicate with her.
I'm Deaf myself _\m/. I communicate by speaking. I took speech therapy too. If I don't understand what she or he is saying to me even with my hearing aids on. I use my mobile phone, body gesture, or paper.
D/deaf communicate in different ways with hearing people.
beautiful ...
@@ThHandOfGod Thanks

I thought the deaf
did not want to make friends.
Sad.
My niece is deaf. Her first language is ASL, but she understands spoken language and speaks well. She has one foot in each community. I am a speech-language therapist and have always believed that ASL should be mandatory starting in Pre-K...for all children. A fully bi-lingual society should be the standard. Then we wouldn't need to talk about being 'inclusive'.
@@durasaxon5131 You could've at least ask some D/deaf people if they want to be friends with you or not. Some of them and me made friends when we were young.
Two people collide forming a bond that took effort to make. And then passed the test the universe threw at them. Great story.
@Henry Nguyen And I like how you summarized it!
I love this. The storyline is such that they both had the opportunity to form a bond with another who speaks the *same language* but then they decide not to because they want to be with each other❤
I liked the ending lull though
@@arshadsyed6628 can you explain the ending to me please
Beautiful story. They both get a chance to met other people more similar to them and yet decide to pursue their own relationship despite their lack of verbal communication. True romantic love. I can only imagine that they continue their romance and he learns sign language.
Well done! A very touching story. There IS too much talking in the world and a connection with someone can happen when you least expect it. Great performances and filmmaking. Bravo!
hUh
Its so beautiful to see him let her feel his heart beat and she's so happy ....awww
I watched this entire video thinking there was no volume because I actually turned my volume off

When two worlds collide - both speak but one speaks silently and it takes a lot to hear another world that seems so alien - but connected it's a beautiful world to discover you both human. Priceless reactions...the subtle glances that speak volumes - brilliant short film...is there a follow up to this...!
If I were to be honest, it was not easy to pass that test. Just gracious. Kudos to the writer of the story.
I just couldn't stop looking at the water. The ocean. It's what truly connects us all.
You know how many dead bodies are in there?
I suppose you are also right scientifically. Without water, there would be no life on Earth. The ancestors of all living things lived in water.
The way I see it is that they were both in the point in their lives, when they knew just having the similarities with someone is not enough for a strong relationship. You need a connection much deeper than that, where words are superficial!
This is very cute and very well filmed, but I cannot not believe she follows him home after such a short while. Very dangerous! He seems to be nice, but you never know...
Right
Ppl yearn connection
Yeah, woman are very dangerous... If I would be him I would be scared, you never know...
I'm sure with the camera crew, director, and everyone else following them, she felt pretty safe. ;-)
They should turn that into their love journal. It'll be sweet to look back in 20 years and read some of their history together.
Love isn't just about that strong powerful initial emotion. True love is telling your self that you WILL be committed to LOVING this person even when the spark feels low, and even when you see a spark in someone else. The feeling is a crush/infatuation/liking. The commitment is Love.
This is indeed a very heart touching story . Love is independent of religion , caste or any sort of physical challenges and is so wonderfully depicted in here . Thanks to Omeleto for bringing such wonderful short movies !!
It's nice to see something different. A story we have heard and seen so many times but this time it was different. Thank you for making this little piece of art.
Beautiful Story. Deaf people has difficulty to tell other people can't listen. They can carry a book or Mobile to communicate.
A+ for most of it, but the ending is actually very perfect. A++
I didn't really get the end. They look kinda akward and then it stops, which seemed odd to me. Did they make the wrong choice, I wonder.
@@AnoNymous-ph4cd I don’t understand either.
My mother was deaf due to an accident but had surgery to restore hearing in one ear. My aunt married a man deaf from birth and years later set up a deaf services center that trained interpreters for three Counties. She had to stop signing constantly as it was hard on her hands. I always looked up to her and those like her that run Deaf schools that get kids ready to mainstream into regular schools.
They played all day. He could've at least offered her a drink or snack when they finally got into the apt. They both passed up thirst quenching opportunities to hang out together. He's got a faucet right there and he's got at least 1 cup.
I married my high school sweetheart after I joined the Marines. I had been chasing her for 3 years, and finally caught her. when I was almost finished with my 4 years, Iraq invaded Kuwait, and I went to the Middle East. While I was there she was partying and sleeping around, and spent all of the money I earned. I returned on my birthday by chance and found out what she was doing.
When the 2nd guy came into the picture, I had a flashback, thinking that she was going to ditch the 1st guy for someone who could "sign" even though she had not given any clues she was dishonest.
It just goes to show that even after almost 30 years, being "wronged" jades your expectations and destroys your trust in others.
Sad
@@nursyafizah5981 Yes, it is. And thank you for your comment. Coming back to read my post has been an eye opener, and I realize that the way I have been treating women since my divorce could have been better.
@@casualguy3938 all the best for you in life... 💞
I'm sorry to hear this, I hope the selfishness of this one person hasn't destroyed your hope in finding someone who truly loves you! People like her whether it be a man or a woman will never find true happiness, don't let her take your ability to find yours.
You fought two fronts one in a foreign country and one at home.
More people need to see this short film. It's amazing.
Good story, and had it's heartwarming moments even though it's a kinda unusual she went along in going over to his place after they'd just met ..
Love this short movie! It shows that love, true connexion, happen naturally, patience is so important. I like that when the focus was on her, we didn't hear anything, like that we understand a little bit what it means to be deaf. Great work! Bravo to the team! 😊
Lovely! I was doubting at first cause this is an overly used theme and I have seen many of such shorts and after a while they're all the same and not that emotional anymore. But I love the twist you gave it here with the third persons popping up. Not sure about the ending though, with this long scene of them being nervous on the couch. Your endings are often open, I like open endings a lot too as an author, but maybe sometimes you could make actual satisfying endings for a change.
Also, what got me as a difference with others, was the way you put it, the style, the quality and the in depth narration.
I'm happy they didn't get sidetracked and stayed focused on one another
I can't even begin to explain how my heart was going pitter patter throughout the entire movie!
Dude exudes lots of positive energy in his role! Bravo
Ohh this just ended too soon. Such angst in this one. Beautifully done. Makes me smile. TY.
Almost every thing was up to perfection. The story line, acting, sounds, music, and the odds. Loved it.
The last 2 minutes... great, natural acting. Well done.
Their hearts are talking to each other.💕
This is beautiful seeing deaf person can't speak another person trying to communicating and mostly beautiful hearing just sounding 🎶music because I'm deaf as well. Seeing this is so touching story💕 GodBless🙏🏽StaySafe
i teared up.. ....happy for them, what an adventure ahead.
THIS IS SO CUTEEEE , and their both so cute I LOVE THEIR DIMPLESS
Shes so pretty
Ah I finally get the end. Why not the easy and so called perfect one ? Who will wait for you and beside you in the difficult times, requiring integrity and commitment, repecting your differnces and not merely sympathy for each other. They are indeed a perfect couple not by the facts but by definition of true and meaningful relationship .
I knew this was TV Carpio the second I saw her face. She plays the character Prudence in my favorite movie Across The Universe and to see her in another role is so amazing 🥰 I love her so much
I really love this short movie! I thought they'd choose the one's where they had similarities with, but didn't. Wish this had a continuation.
By the end of the night the magic was gone... he had nothing left to write and she moved farther away on the couch. Hope she finds the signing guy when she leaves the building.
I'm glad someone talks about the signification of the ending part, but I think this is more ambiguous than you say and there is different understanding possible. Firstly yours: "the akwardness when the magic is gone", another based on some kind of "where to really start this relationship? there are so many thing to say / to do", or the more prosaïc one: "Out of reticence about telling her / him when it's time to get more 'physical'' " when paradoxaly other people usually doesn't need words.
Anybody to discuss all these hypothesis or others?
@@alexandreruso I do believe it is up to the viewer to discern the course of action these two may take. Initially their romance began with such momentum, however when the man went to go find the key, she first had the obstacle of choosing her current date, or going with someone who already understands her. The man also ran into someone similarly, and although both were faced with this temptation, they chose to continue on with each other. I personally believe although the ending looked inconclusive, throughout the film they made each other vulnerable to each other. Such as the man putting he is illegal as a secret, or when the women shared her headphone with him. In that respect, I believe if this were to continue, they would continue to grow with each other. As they say, nothing worth having should be easy.
ABSOLUTELY loved this one....LOVED!
I almost lost faith in man kind, they both weren't scared of different. 👍💜
Nice that they both decided to choose each other.
Interesting dynamic. Do I go for someone with whom I can communicate better and hurt (a little bit) who I'm sort of with (but not really WITH), or do I stick with what (who) I've got?
This is an incredible work of art.
Often the way Omeleto leaves you hanging at the end is so thought-provoking and fascinating. Sometimes sad, sometimes uplifting; you just really wonder if everyone will get where they need to be. Love love.
These are short stories from many different directors, Omeleto just posts them
Zack Scheffler - if they did not post them, so many people would not have the opportunity to engage. How could that not be more wonderful?
This woman has amazing eyes
I'd learn sign language within the week, especially with someone to practice with every day or often.
It takes five to ten years. But after two months you'd be doing useful communication.
@@billmaghan Yes, I think your estimate is more realistic. Sign language is like any language. If you can learn a new language in a week (some people can), then you probably can learn a sign language in a week. In fact, sign language could be more difficult for hearing people because the brain needs to make new connections for hand movements and visual for meanings (rather than muscles controlling speech and sounds).
@@sunway1374 , words are not the building bricks of language, phrases are. With signs the bricks are made of unfamiliar material. I love watching people bloom with sign.

One of the better Omeleto short stories. Good one.
I enjoy watching the film.. It was wonderful love story about comunication and love.. The perfect sound of love..
Omeleto! I don’t know how to feel about this one! 😶
It’s wonderfully shot and the actors are naturals. The story line tho? Excellent!! I’m just confused. I don’t know if they should be together. I mean...it seemed like a natural and mutual attraction. And I thought they would make a good couple...until they met that next person who kind of seemed a Really great match! Uhhhhg!!!
Thank you Omeleto for this platform. Your content is better than t.v!

To me, this film's all about conquering the difficulties of communicating with someone different.
You love someone or like someone, you can't help it. maybe this is faith and they are not scared of different.
Such a wonderful piece of art.
Beautiful story. But I must ask, was it worth it in the end? Or is it easier to love someone when you have some common ground with them?
oh my god.. that ocean is breath taking
Life is better with imperfections & incompleteness. The truth is each & every imperfection has unique role to play in this world. So like without the incompleteness, this world is incomplete. Isn't that?
beautiful! the silence at 3:51
Beautifully done! Bravo!!
Communication is vital in every relationship! I think they each made a mistake. From the looks of some of the comments I'm probably the only one who thinks this.
I prefer quietness. I always thought I want to have a relationship with a deaf woman. That's until I was once on a train and there was a group of deaf women sitting near me. I tell you they are the "nosiest" people I have encountered, they didn't stop signing vigorously for the whole two hours journey. It's clear they were shouting. Then I realised deaf doesn't mean quiet.
Very nice movie....wish i could find love/friendship like that
This like a commercial for the earphones
love this movie....I feel myself in it.
I thought she had earphones earlier
I didn't expect that he would speak Kurdish at all زۆر سوپاس
Alright, they met one another which was a one in a million chance in itself.
Yet after that same day, they each meet totally compatible mates for one another.
The simple choice would have been to meet and explain the details, luckily they would have both had the same similar story so it would have worked out in the end anyway.
He looked like he was either struggling to find a way to tell her or looking for something to talk about, either way not a good end of a night/ start of a relationship.
I've looked at a GAZILLION of these shorts: I can count on ONE HAND how many I pushed the "like" button for ( even though i did like many of them): THIS is one of the few. PERFECT.

My CHASE lasted longer than the catch did!!

We live in a world that is more and more noisy over time. Sometimes we hearing people cant even hear our thoughts.
This fact may make deafs to laugh but it's actually sad.
