We really need to spread the word around about cutting test strips. I've done it since day one, and have to buy them about once a year (I have many tanks, so it could last longer for those with one tank.)
I used to watch your video but I thought u quit that’s when I stopped looking for your videos I didn’t know u came back I’m so happy this popped up your an amazing guy who’s channel is gonna be big
I like using the test strips for quick glimpse of what’s going on in my tanks. There is actually a place for these strips in the Hobby. I haven’t tried the Ammonia strips yet. To make the text strips last longer, I cut the strips in half lengthwise and make 2 strips out of 1. Just my thought.
I love the easy and quick test idea but I don't believe is cheap shortcuts, I use the more expensive Master Test Kit that does take longer but it also tests for ammonia and high range PH for African Cichlid tanks.
Hardness can be all across the range for fish. If your water is soft I would recommend buffering with crushed coral. I do not mess with my hardness because it would cause more harm to try and bring the hardness down.

Soooo helpful! Thank you!

Cutting them in half is a great insight!
Yo this is brilliant thank you so much for your help!
Love your videos and your info. I have a new clutch of mystery snail eggs. Hopefully I will hatch them successfully. 😊😊😊
I always used the Master kit, I might buy the API strips and use both to see if there is any difference.
I typically buy the master kit as well. These are that faster option but don’t show as accurate of results
Thank you, this helped out a lot.
This helps alot thanks
I tested my tap water and tested my tank water but they both came out the same?

There are some benefits for sure to a liquid test kit.
@@WeldonTanks People whose opinion I value like the strips and I might be wrong but I trust the old fashion way to be more accurate.
My test strip test all came out the same, tank, tap, mineral and even toilet after a pee so im not so convinced by them
Strips are fine. People assume api liquid is the gold standard..l it’s not, even that has a rate of error, prob 10% as a min
You make a valued point!
What side do I use for brackish water?
That is a good question. I would suggest following the instructions for salt water testing.
@@WeldonTanks okay, thank you 😎
I've always seen it called the Nitrogen cycle, not the Ammonia cycle
Same thing
What color should the hardness be
There is no set “should be” color. All depends on your water supply.
@@WeldonTanks what should it be for fresh water fish ?

Allways use them .
