LUD
Thakee-sai you speak true
Rolando de Galaad brought me here.
See the TURTLE, ain't he keen? All things serve the fuckin' beam.
+Erik You say true, and I hope very much of Director Nikola Arcel (Girl With the Dragon Tattoo)will also faithfully follow the path of the Beam- I'm pleased to say we will know for sure in 2017 with the help of producer/Co-director Ron Howard and co-producer Stephen King www.imdb.com/title/tt1648190/fullcredits?ref_=tt_ov_wr#
Mephobia Stephen King is producing it - I don't think it'll go wrong. We'll see if it actually *happens at all* though - I've been hearing about a possible movie adaptation for years.
Long days and pleasant nights, sai.
+1ManNamedDan I somehow feel like they've forgotten the face of their gunslinger by casting a black actor, no matter how good. Matthew McConaughey will certainly make for one awesome Man in Black, that's for sure, but Idris Elba as Roland...
I sure hope so. But many of Sai King's works turned from Ka to Ka-Ka in the process of adaptation.
Tlato Smd You say true, say sorry
These comments are giving me life. You have all remembered the face of your fathers
Way too true. Oy!
It makes me happy to see so many Dark Tower readers here. I just finished my first journey last year, and I have started it again. This time I'm listening to the books. Am in the middle of listening to the Waste Lands. I finally got around to listening to this song. It's wonderful. King picks the best songs that go with his books. Long days and pleasant nights everyone.
i got in at the start, in 2002 with the gunslinger, then let it lapse... and found out he'd written the whole series, and then just had to, i may have to again now
all things serve the beam i guess :)
Same. I am in the middle of audiobook Waste Lands too and Eddie just heard the distant drums that sound like a rock n roll back beat...lol. Only difference now is that I can stream the book free thanks to my local library and the Libby app.
Same I’ve just started wizard and glass loving these books
You have remembered the Face of vour Father ! It will do you much good !
@@rustyneuronThe God Drums
I don't play with my guitar. He who plays with his guitar has forgotten the face of his father... I play with my heart.
Axs Fernández You win!
I do not fret with my eye, he who frets with his eye has forgotten the face of his father
Awesome!
I fret with my mind!
As I am a drummer, I do not play the drums with my hands or my ears as that is how I learned. He who plays with his hands or his ears has forgotten the face of his Father. I also play with my heart.
Ok, so after having read the entire Dark Tower series, I realized that there were a lot of songs referenced in the series that I'd never heard before, so I decided I'd come and give them each a listen so I could better understand the moments they highlight in the books. Figured I'd start here, with the God Drums, and was surprised by two things: 1) This song is a lot... Funkier, than I was imagining. 2) The sheer volume of Dark Tower fans here in the comments is fucking astounding and has absolutely made my day lol.
exactly :D i love this though
These comments make me so happy! hile ka-tet! Long days and pleasant nights!!🥰🥰🥰
Long days and pleasant nights.
That’s why I’m here
Well, Blaine is a pain after all.
The Dark Tower is certainly a lot more popular than I thought it was. Hahahah, this is awesome.
Blaine, now screaming in the voice of an infant, lapsed into some other language and began to sing. Eddie thought it was French. He knew none of the words, but when the drums kicked in, he knew the song perfectly well: "Velcro Fly" by ZZ Top.
105 people have forgotten the face of their father.
omfg you're fucking cool
Lol good one
Have not, Roland is my father
There was somewhere on YT LUD composition :))) try finding it.
This made my morning.
Good to know that within a crowd of ZZ Top fans, there will always be a ka-tet of Tower Junkies to mosh with :D
hell yes. We are all here "Among The Living"
They mosh at ZZ Top shows? Do you say so?
@@David0gden our Ka-Tet does. We may not know the words or hear the guitar but the DRUMS ARE OUR GOD.

Listening to this on my way to Topeka. Thankee-sai.
Why’d the dead baby cross the road?
CAUSE IT WAS STAPLED TO THE CHICKEN, YOU DOPEY FUCK!

The drums of his song just gets me into the mood for human sacrifice!
Try: Guitar Talk, Love and Drums by Gary Myrick from Dallas, Texas.
Just finished The Dark Tower and hearing this for the first time.
I did not imagine the God Drums would be so damn funky.
Yeah, now it gives lud a bit of a different tone.
Yeah, and listening to this 24 a day... not so terrible. It helps make work less monotone. Gives me rythm. :)
They are not funky.
@@sgtpepper91 Does your guitar weep over this fact?
The same thing bring me here The Dark Tower. Now I know what Eddie Susannah, Jake and Roland heard in the River Crossing 😉
Gracias Eddie Dean 😉
I came here for the Dark Tower comments, and was not disappointed hahah love all of you

@@tanyac.c.macbean4707 I'm glad I was not the only one who was curious about this video after reading The Wastelands.

Eddie “Stapled to the Chicken” Dean, last student of the Great Sage and Eminent Junkie, Henry Dean
You gotta love how this song wasn't referenced in the movie, so it's only people who read the books here, and that trainwreck of a movie didn't ruin this comments section.

"When you reach the end, do it over again."
And so the wheel turns.
Holy Cats. I'm reading the series for a second time right now and thought I'd revisit this song since I just got to that part. Then I read this comment and looked up the lyrics. ZZ Top literally spoils everything.
All follow the beam.
Ka is a wheel…
Spoiler!
Thankee-sai all for remembering the wonderful work of Sai King. Long days and pleasant nights.

What a bunch of Dark Tower nerds, including myself!
Long days and pleasant nights to everyone, guys, and welcome to Lud.
Thankyee sai, may you have twice the number
No wonder the citizens of Lud were so messed up.
My husband and I are reading the series together. He has read it before, years ago, but its my first time. Being a lover of ZZ Top and reading the God Drums bit I knew IMMEDIATELY what it sounded like and my husband didn't know why I was so tickled pink by it until I showed him this video with the dancers played in reverse and Egyptian moves and the DRUMS! Love it. Thankee sai to ZZ Top for this fabulous sacrificial song.
This comment section makes me happy. Imagine how confused people are who came here just because they like ZZ Top B-sides. Pleasant days peeps!
Salt Lick and Millers Farm. And the Spanish version of Francine. The only ZZ Top b sides you ever need.

I've always been a fan of zz top but never heard this song. I was reading the dark tower: the waste lands and wanted to hear the song. I read the comments and it's full of dark tower fans. Haha! I love it. Don't forget the faces of your father's people.
"When you reach the end do it over again."
A cunning foreshadowing of the ending, very early on...

""All is silent in the halls of the dead. All is forgotten in the stone halls of the dead. Behold the stairways which stand in darkness; behold the rooms of ruin. These are the halls of the dead where spiders spin and the great circuits fall quiet, one by one."
Ty for this comment
Pituvision literally came straight here after reading that passage 👍🏽
yeaaaa
Holy Shit! I can remeber the face of my father again!
Tank ya sai ZZtop!
I don't think the audio compression on youtube does this song justice. Like, I have a monster sound system in my Takuro Spirit that this was *made* for.
Yer-bugger!
Of course it doesn't. When you have a decent system and a DAC it blows the compression away.
Wow, I came to this song just for ZZ Top, almost forgetting King referenced it in The Dark Tower series, and I'm really surprised to see how many readers are out there!
that's Ka-nstant Readers, pal! Long days and pleasant nights, ya ken?
Ahhhhh, Mr. King.... I never get tired of playing this and then sacrificing someone.....
And Jim Caviezel for Roland!!
+AntiHoplophobia I'll take him or Stephen Moyer (played Bill the vampire in True Blood), Mads Mikkelson (Valhalla Rising) or hell even 007 Daniel Craig - all better choices than that publicity stunt involving Idris Elbis - who is a great actor but not at all right for that part
Mephobia THANK YOU!! My feelings EXACTLY... but the addition of Tom Taylor for Jake (who is PERFECT, go look at a picture!) and possibly Aaron Paul as Eddie, kinda makes up for the fiasco of Elba... and hey, SK himself LIKES Idris for Roland... I have no idea why, maybe he doesn't want to appear racist... I don't plan on seeing the movie when it comes out, do you?
Ron Howard originally championed the idea 3 movies interlaced with an HBO series which fills in the gaps, that is asking a looooot of commitment from the main characters, years in which they will have to turn down other work and be away from family and friends and a main reason Mathew MaC didn't want to commit to playing Roland even though he loves the character. I had thought Idris Elba was just starting to really blow up and get decent work showing his superior talents and presence, I really fear for his career if this thing Blaines out (train wrecks)...
Yeah the folken of the Barony of Mejis weren't the deepest of thinkers when it came to racial equality and that is kind of in line with the old west (or the strange mash up of post tech renaissance post apocalyptic last age old west that King pulled from Nis out of his navel).
Yes those paintings done in the books make buying the papperbacks or audio only versions near blashemy unless you already own the larger volumes and have been treated to their visual feasts - also making the casting choice another slap in the face of those who came to expect one thing yet were served up some studio execs idea of a cool new twist... No twisting required thanks, I believe many of us liked what we read and saw just fine, say thankee sais but no
I'm a huge fan of sarcasm and Dark humor and like to think I have an open mind for new ways of looking at things thru a Tower window but I just can't wrap my head around this kind of cheap gimmicky retooling of what I believe one of the best modern story's ever written, one in which I and I'll set watch and warrant, many others identified with personally.
I recall people dying of cancer or on one form or another of death's row, writing letters begging King to tell them how the Tower story ends long before he had the last 3 books written. So yeah these stories made an impact in peoples lives and I think a visual telling is while not as important as the reading (the best director and casting agent lives in your own head), should hold a few leagues closer to what the great many had expected.
Who knew the God drums were so funky!!! Long days and pleasant nights!
I feel like this drum beat is talking to me.... sac.. something.. yeah, sacrifice someone, that's it. Better hop to it before it's my turn. Long live the King!
When is a door not a door? When it's a jar
That was awful.
Taryn S It's an inside joke.
Chris Slooter That doesn't make it any less awful. It's like when a horse walks into a bar and the bartender says " why the long face?" :)
If you read the Dark Tower series, you'd get it. It's from the book, and the point of the joke in the book was that it is an awful joke, hence the beginning a much deeper meaning and story within the novel.
+oli g What has four wheel and flies? :D
I listen to this while driving my Takuro Spirit.

RIP Dusty Hill, and thank you for the decades of music, and memories with ZZ Top.
Doing the same thing and enjoying all the memories. I was a teen when eliminator came out and became a huge fan of all the stuff earlier after and after.
"When you reach the end, do it over again..."
Hey, wait a second. Book 7...
I like to listen to this while I relax with a tooter-fish popkin and a good magda-seen.
For some reason the part where it mentions how Roland had no idea who Magda was or what she had seen always gets me.
Who the fuck is Magda? What did she see and why does everyone care so much?
I honestly used to play video games to this song at home, as loud as the record player would go. Pissed my dad off! Thise were the days.
And if you get a headache because you played it too loud, you can take an astin with a nice can of Nozz-a-la.
Go then, there are other music videos than these.
+Kevin Saale Wouldn't it have been terribly cruel of Roland to have Jake die from watching...*THIS*?
I literally had tears in my eyes after reading this.
I liked this.
Love you so much, thankee-Sai

"Jesus Pumpkin-Pie Christ, don't you get it? You're killing each other over a piece of music that was never even released as a single!"
I feel bad for Lud.
Had it actually been released as a single, would it have been better to kill each other over it?
Actually it was released. But I suppose that world has a different Billboard Top 40
Yes, this song did indeed hit the Top 40 in the U.S. It peaked at #35 in the late summer of 1986.
James Wilson blame Eddie Dean for the inaccuracy. It’s his line.
Eliminator is an album that polarizes among ZZ fans. For me, it is simply one of their absolute best.
ZZ Top doing 80's pop/new wave. Lets face it, it has a killer beat.
Adam Reader, the Professor of Rock said they embraced that style because Billy Gibbons was a fan of Depeche Mode and Devo. They could feel the blues behind the electronica and and said he felt the heaviness of it when he met the band backstage after a DM show.
A killer beat.... you could say that

I have to wonder what' going through King's head when he thinks "There's a race of post apocalyptic savages who sacrifice one of their number when they heard the drum track to a ZZ Top song". Then again, that's why he's Stephen King, and I'm some ninny on the Internet.
I agree, but when you think of the 80s and this drum beat it somehow makes absolutely perfect sense.

Granted. Every time I hear this, I make up a list in my head of people I'd like to string up and watch them dance.
And smell like cinnamon

Absolutely. And now I'm gonna have to go cook some cinnamon rolls. Thank you for that :)

This is when ZZ Top made the most 80s style videos ever. Believe it or not, they did it
They wore a pink hat before it was acceptable for a guy to wear pink.
If there is ever a series of "The Dark Tower" films, or an episode/episodes about "The Waste Lands", then this song HAS to be featured!
Anti and Rag? If they ever make a movie out of The Dark Tower, let's write in and have them cast Justin Bieber as the sacrifice victim. Then ZZ Top will have a new video for the song!

I'm on book seven-love all the Dark Tower comments.
+Brian Willing my favorite is either Wizard and Glass or Wolves of the Calla. those two are the best. the reason they are both as good is because its a very good story. Wizard and Glass tells you allot about Roland so you can know more about him, Wolves of the Calla is just awesome because of Callahans story. and ofcourse the wolves at the end.
I read the series once a year, best series ever. in my opinion all books are good but those two i said earlyer are my favorites and i realy cant choose between the two. the third book, in wich LUD Drums came (VelcroFly) is also a good book.
whats your personal favorite book of the series?
I like your picks-a lot of backstory in this series- I think this series would be an excellent animation movie series produced Stephen King style.
Thank i'm not the only one who thinks TDT should be an animated series (or show rather. Those work MUCH better). Really, the only one I would like to see adapted as a movie would be the first book, with a bit of "walking through a desert on LSD" imagery mixed in.
the drawing of the three was pretty good for me. but my favorite is Wizard and glass because of the scene in bar and scene with a bang
See the turtle of enormous girth
