@@nardodelacueva7760 Tbh agreed but I have also come to accept that Arsene was also doing it to himself. Compare how Arteta managers to Arsene, Arteta has built a squad that can do a lot of things, it's not just his single ideal way of Football. Arsene was trying to play his beautiful football with at times sub-par players.
I'm sure he knew deep down but it was not obvious to us that he knew what got him there was the solid core he inherited. Arsene came into a top side with a great defence and revolutionised its attack. 15 years later it was like he forgot that.

Arsene was never given a budget to go out and buy players. He had to sell to buy.

His biggest criticism was not spending big money on top players. But he proved all the critiques wrong as we have seen how much money United have spent on players since post Fergie and some of them were top name at the time and look where they are. Arsene has just shown that he prioritized in buying the "right player" . Plus now we know how difficult it is to get into the top four WHILE managing a team with financial debt and bearing impatient pundits who just want bragging rights (who really know nothing about management)

Honestly this was such a great video. And now that some years have passed since Wenger left I have some thoughts.
    1) The glory years were incredible but it's still shocking we didn't at least get to 1 more UCL final and possibly win it. (2004 should've been the year).
    2) 2006-2013 weren't AWFUL years considering we had no money and kept losing our best players. We still got top 4 and were okay in the UCL (a few quarter finals and a semi in 2009). The only disgraceful moment during this time was losing the league cup final to Birmingham.
    3) 2014 and 2015 were the best 2 years of The Emirates Era (Under Wenger) since 2007 and 2008. Winning those 2 Fa Cups B2B are still some of my favourite memories under Wenger. And the football we played plus some of the players we had were great.
    4) 2016-2018 were a disgrace. People just brush over the fact we lost a league title to Leicester despite having several great players. Losing 4-0 Southampton, losing 3-2 United, 2-1 to Swansea at home were awful results. Also, the humiliation to Bayern in the UCL summed it up. We had some good players but as a team we weren't built to win.
    5) People really need to stop rewriting history. Wenger did have money to spend after 2013 hence why he bought Ozil, Alexis, Auba, Laca, Mustafi and Xhaka. All costly but only the 1st 3 names were good for us. The fact is he wasted money on Mustafi, Laca and Xhaka whereas, a better manager would've spent that money on better players.
    6) I think Wenger stopped being a good manager post 2010ish tbh. He was still solid and could get us into the top 4 but his arrogance and nativity meant we got battered many times to the big clubs. His lack of tactical awareness really cost us. I think he once said that regardless of the opposition, Arsenal will always play the same way...

People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centred.
    Forgive them anyway.
    If you are kind,
people may accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
    Be kind anyway.
    If you are successful,
you will win some false friends and some true enemies.
    Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and frank,
    people may cheat you.
    Be honest and frank anyway.
    What you spend years building,
    someone could destroy overnight.
    Build anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness,
    they may be jealous.
    Be happy anyway.
    The good you do today,
    people will often forget tomorrow.
    Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have,
and it may never be enough.
Give the best you've got anyway.
    You see,
    in the final analysis it is between you and God ;
it was never between you and them anyway.

The PREDEFINED METRIC for success is WINNING a TROPHY!
The worst of Wenger days were his last 5 years in the club!
Still, Arsenal won more TROPHIES with Arsene Wenger in the last 5 years of Wenger era than we have won in the First 5 years of Arteta!
    Let that sink in!

  • @BeforeThisNovember

I guess we’ll never know why we never really spent the money. I’m sure he would have wanted to. Would he really say, no I’m fine with just these players?
Then it begs to differ why Arteta has been given so much to spend.
I did support Wenger up until almost the very end. I still respected him and everything he’d done for us, but you did feel like it was due time. The disappointment was becoming too much.
There’s only 2 blemishes on his reign, for me. 2 things I’ll never understand or forgive him for (which isn’t many, when you consider everything good he did). And that is firstly selling RVP (and to a direct rival, whom played a big part in them winning the league immediately) and secondly not resigning Fabregas. A total club legend, still in his prime, who really wanted to come back. Cesc would have boosted morale so much.
We also let him go to a direct rival, and he also then played a big role in them winning the league that very season.
One of the biggest highlights for me tho was when we loaned Henry. I missed him the first time round, and that was an unfathomable reality that Wenger made happen.

I loved Wenger, I loved the ethos and him as a human. But looking back now, it felt like it was more of an old man who had nothing else in life than his job, seeing he took training everyday.... how would he ever get new ideas? I bet training was the same from 2000 - 2014, you can progress like that. Seeing the expectations under Mikel in comparison, I think Wenger was too stubborn and Naive near the end. He failed to change with the game and the club paid the price. Now loosing is unacceptable under almost any condition with Mikel and I love that.

He wasn't backed and if he had been given the money Tapas Pulis has been given he'd have won the league again no question. Now Arsenal fans don't even realise that Arteta is the perfect Kroenke guy because they only care about Champions League qualification money and not actually winning anything. So Arteta will leave soon also and round and round we go.

I can’t believe fans are satisfied watching super safe Mourinho-esque football under Arteta when we were treated to absolutely breathtaking football under Wenger. It’s sad that Wenger’s philosophy to entertain has been thrown down the toilet in favour of safe football (with no trophies).
