    I've seen it 100 times and still the fight scenes are awesome.

    You may or may not agree with the technique he showed (specially if coming from a jujutsu background), But don't think anyone can deny that Mr Speakman explained the techniques and the concepts clearly and professionally. Just 2 minutes were taken for principles to be presented that could lead into hours of study. That is a trademark of a good instructor.

    I love how people always criticize on kenpo. Those people probably saw someone saying a negative comment about the art and then they decided to go with it and make fun of people who practice in kenpo when they have probably never studied it

    I prefer to cancel the height-zone using a negative orbital movement in direct but OPPOSITE proportion to the inverse of pi. THIS affords me the 3 milliseconds per continuum of motion necessary to check my opponent's hemispheric alignment by 1.2965% per particle movement. That's just me though.

    • @mushinbujin
      @mushinbujin 9 лет назад +3

      lol noob u forget to correct 4 angular momentum at point of impact, and also to integrate atmospheric rotation with respect to epsilon/2t, the guy will take u out with a counter orbital and cancel ur height zone, nice try but go back 2 da 4th grade and learn wut a real streat fighter does
      also jump cancel is down+z, do u even no what that is, u cant cancel height zone w/out jump counters unless you start ur ultra combo under 12% health, its easier if u buy phantom katana from the shop in leaf town cuz it gives u 20 extra dmg against mobs and mana regen

    Looks good - as long as your attacker stands there like a statue while you (1) perry, (2) check, (3) thumb strike, (4) hammer-fist, (5) step around and (6) then drop down to one knee for the take-down. If the attacker is that slow, why not just walk to your car and leave instead?

    It's from years of training and repetition which equals a muscle memory response in a fight of course your not going to get all of those moves unless an opponent gives them to you . You will get whatever they give you . No system is perfect or complete . But any training is better than nothing at all . Much like these keyboard warriors who are experts at everything 🤓

    as you can clearly see, on youtube there are wannabe fighters who hide behind thier computer & run thier mouth when they have little or no experience in fighting or being a fighter. AND when they are confronted and challenged - they quickly try to talk thier way out of the fight. A true fighter never runs away from the fight, he runs towards it. If they REALLY think they are tough guys they would go down to Speakman's dojo and fight him. But they niether have the balls or the backbone to do it.

  • @GokuInfintysaiyan

    For those of you who don't understand all the terms used, kenpo was founded off of the same techniques that would later become karate, however they took two very different paths. Karate was birthed in battle and had less time for theory and merely time for concept and application.
    Kenpo had a lot of time to develop and much research was put into maximizing the attack with the least amount of energy by using scientific analysis of motion and the human structure.
    Karate does the same but less formally and focuses more on uke and prevention/cancelation as well as being very response and auto-ability oriented while kenpo focuses on training you to know simple strikes to vital targets but understanding theory so you are never without motion and you are able to think and fight simultaneously by thinking during the simple movements you know by muscle and acting your thoughts in between that time. Karate is all one motion while kenpo is a calculated attack.
    All martial arts are created equal but each has specialties. Kenpo like BJJ is the thinking mans martial art.

  • @cptmiche
    @cptmiche 12 лет назад

    @MrBotheman I practiced a kenpo for a few years,(the others i have spent practicing other martial arts). I believe it is a very practical martial art, but at the same time there is some of that is a bit excessive. Kenpo is a "soft" martial art which is very appealing because it is effective esspecially for people who are smaller, or not very conditioned. The only thing i dont agree with very much is some of the instructors i see structure out attacks which doesnt promote "on the fly" defense.

  • @TroyNaumu808
    @TroyNaumu808 13 лет назад

    I think Shihan Speakman gave very clear instruction on this technique and if his words are confusing then the visual should clear up what he is trying to say. He is obviously talking to in his mind people who are followers or studnts of the various branches of Kenpo under the Ed Parker System and by extention those Kenpo followers or student of the Hawaiian (Chinese) Kenpo under Great Grand Master William K.S Chow. He is not exactly taking to people who know nothing of the system

  • @cptmiche
    @cptmiche 12 лет назад

    @MrBotheman (see the other comment first) By on the fly defense I mean like adapting to a fight situation. A fighter who relies heavily on teaching structured techniques and fixed responses to attacks will not be able to properly defend against even a slightly trained fighter. Because in a real situation not everyone will react in ways that compliment your techniques. You need to be able to adapt. So in conclusion i would ask the instructor if you can observe a class to access their abilities.

    @payanmario Lo siento pero se puede aplicar y lo he hecho en mas de una ocasion contra ataques por personas mas altas y pesadas. Es solo tu 'timing" que tiene que estar bien. • @baldieman64
      @baldieman64 5 лет назад +1

      Under stress, you do what you train. There are plenty of wrestlers who have been stabbed to death going for a double leg, there are plenty of MMA fighters who have had their heads kicked in by the mate of the guy they've just got into mount and there are plenty of Aikidoka who have been battered to a bloody pulp waiting for that one big attack where the bad guy over extends himself.

    • @hatch1892
      @hatch1892 5 лет назад

      Laurie Caspoli: Exactly. That is why training with static partners is useless. No-one in real life will just stand/lay there while you do 7 moves. So why train it like they would. Try with a resisting partner and see what does and doesn't work. You won't be able to half of this if they did. It is just to pre-set.

    • @baldieman64

      "That is why training with static partners is useless".
      So, by this logic, training with a heavy bag is useless.

    Question? Shouldn't you be nullifying the attackers inverted centrifugal thrust parameters prior to executing an accelerated variance technique at a torque range of that distance? I mean sure, given that he is likely sustaining perpendicular refraction of your downward orbital mass and consequently has sacrificed his angular momentum velocity by .04, you could alright - but why chance it.

    Good script for movies, bad for fighting. Fighting is live and spontaneous, not a scripted clash between programmed robots fighting from memory. As long as the students understand that and fit this long chain of moves within the more realistic context of fighting, aided by contact sparring, then these insanely long sequences or drills can serve to help a fighter physically execute certain moves or serve as a dictionary or catalogue of moves👍🏻

      any training is better than no training only applies when you are actually training something useful and practical. many kenpo guys get super angry and offended but they should try to objectively analyse american kenpo and study the true backstory of ed parker. the guy is the L Ron Hubbard of martial arts, he just made it all up.

So from white belt to 6th dan or whatever Kenpo's variation is. 15 years easy, before you can defend yourself well. He is dissecting the technique to show its effectiveness and explaining the scientific reasoning. Geometric positioning and anatomy are important to kenpo and are the foundations of the art. The art studies the human body as much as possible so as to make a perfect art against and for it

      It seems simple until you actually try practicing their techniques or principles. I'm a Tae Kwon Do practitioner and thought these techniques were simple until I started experimenting with adding the principles behind them to my TKD techniques. Turned out to be much more complex then I thought. Still compound movements, controlling height and depth zones, taking advantage of natural body mechanics and physics, building combinations off of logical flow or reverse angles all can provide a tactical advantage in a fight or a sparring match.

    Kenpo is hardly BS. Better than not knowing any kind of self-defence. Looks to be one of the more practical forms of traditional MA. But, if one never gets tested for real (e.g. street fights consistently or MMA competitions) all this becomes just another sport or exercise (e.g. TKD).
    We never see any one traditional MA practitioner enter the octagon and win. Though Royce Gracie was an exception in the start of UFC. We quickly saw how he wouldn't last and as went up against decent MMA guys.

    While it is true that being in good shape is preferable to being obese, true martial arts do not absolutely require it. Arts such as Kenpo & Kung Fu have an internal structure that the practitioner must "find." Once said practitioner finds his structure, he can ironically become lazier with his technique (meaning he no longer has to strictly follow textbook motions for the techniques to work). While Mr. Speakman does appear to be over-weight, his Kenpo is better now than when he was young.

    • @akrocuba
      @akrocuba 8 лет назад

      +Rizal Djohan Probably not. Please remember that these are training techniques. I try to instruct
      our students by explaining that the techniques in training are just
      that....training. In a real life situation, you will probably have to
      modify the technique to fit the situation. Somewhat like hitting bags.
      You can get the punching and kicking sequences down, but bags don't hit
      back. Techniques and training equipment, like bags, are just
      that.....training. You must, in my humble opinion, train with theses
      tools on real training partners and go what I like call "live". But that
      is where control must be exercised. Once training with these tools, you
      can these see how you can modify them to fit the particular situation
      that you may encounter.
      That's just my two cents after over 25 years of martial arts and bar
      room brawling 101...LOL

      bags training are core training bro, you get powerful and fast kicks that can be applied to anything. you can use it instantly in fight without doubt. No translation or brainwork process needed to apply it. Applicative training is different. You need to be as simple as possible. What saved you from bar room brawling probably your speed, agility and power, none of my parker's technique :) just saying

But then again, most people on here are keyboard blackbelts so they must know all there is to know... take a break people its an expression of art and movement how you apply it is up to you.

      I have never seen him use any kenpo in any UFC fights. He just used plain old boxing/take-downs/wrestling. If i am wrong, video link please?
      BUT, I mean a link where he is using actual kenpo technique in the ring/cage: Delayed Sword, Flashing Wing, Destructive Knee etc. etc. as seen here sticking to kenpo format.

    Our we building a trapazoid box or doing matrial arts.. great guy..description is way too complicated..too many high tech terms..height zone, cancel this and cancel that.. I hated math in school..but they werent kidding when they said you need it for everything..;) The problem at the end is this" who's to say that arm will be there for you to grab when hes on the floor and you're on his back.. .too fancy a move.. .. You think someone is going to leave their hand out there for you to grab?

      It will. Be ugly for sure. At that level of training you wont even have to think, just react. I trained Shotokan for 15 yrs, believe me you dont forget. Multiple shotokan or kenpo strikes will fuck someone up! Judo is defined as "Gentle - Ju, Do -Way." Nothing gentle about judo.

    Way to complicated..too many variables to account for. Opponent wont just stay frozen, he will move, try to grapple you and get you to the ground. Why not just slip and deliver hit to the spleen. Too lame ?

      This is a calculated response that happens instantly to incapacitate an opponent in several areas so that if it works they have nothing to pursue you with or if something fails you have many more targets and don't have to slow down to try to fix it, you can simply move on.

    • @CorporaMedicina
      @CorporaMedicina 7 лет назад +2

      again in a free fight you want to be simple and efficient. Simple saves energy, efficient disposes of opponent.

    I really bothers me that Speakman doesn't know any better. Can you image doing this in a fight. How about he throws a punch at me, I slip it, then I snap a side or font kick to his rib, if he keeps coming I grab him and sweep his feet and down we go to the ground. Then the neck crank is done and suddenly there is a tapping, fight is over.

    Sorry i respectfully disagree the premise of someone sticking their arm out like a dead robot and then you do all these wonderful follow ups is not what happens in any fight ive ever seen.This is a dangerous lie which will get you hurt for real and epitomizes dead partterned training.fighting must be trained in real time,a defense and counter based on dead movement is not real.the heavy bag works power the speed placement.

    love the way these martial arts dissect a dead corpse , the static mummy jab lol try that against somebody who can throw a jab , all the steps become mute you can not intellectualize real fighting with energy and anger with this nonsence no offence but people are learning stuff which will get them killed in real and thats just plain negligence.

      This is the dumbest most anti-traditionalist comment ever based on a dumb kid who probably practices "STREET KARATE" or a stuck up MMA dick, stuck up boxer, "Thai boxer" who doesn't know real Muay Thai from real nak muay, or a shit BJJ dick
      Traditional martial arts are made to beat people in the real world not a ring. In the ring you parry with the back of your hand whereas in real life if you don't practice traditional karate or another martial art that still does iron bone training, you'd fuck your metacarpals to hell and make your hand useless. You think a two hand party doesn't work? Ask judo Gene Lebell, who did free fighting and made slap and grab famous. Think a thumb can't do damage? Ask Sensei Mas Oyama (Osu), that strike was also a crossface used in wrestling. Then a hammer fist to the kidney? MMA uses hammer fists constantly and the kidney isn't allowed to be hit due to how dangerous it is. A rolling lock on the knee is taught in combat/command Sambo which is used by the spetznav and is also Olympic. Back mount and go grab is judo which is olympic and a very traditional art used in feudal Japan, and the run breaking from the back is used commonly in Japanese jujutsu, and the stomp is extremely common in Okinawan karate and krav maga.
      All techniques from extremely effective arts. You have no clue what the fuck you are talking about because all of these are techniques from arts that are called the "most practical". Then again that term is bullshit anyway since every martial art and every technique in its entirety is perfect, it's up to you to use it to full potential. And if you really think he can't do it with a double parry then how about he just traces the jab or cuts it short, 2 other techniques he often teaches.
      I'm a Karateka, so my martial art has a very iffy rep. Some places only see mcDojos and others see only the best karate. My martial art and Gong Fu are the most exploited arts for profit and it ruins our rep, but I train to live and to exceed myself. I know what works for me, and I know that all techniques work for all different people by sparring with various styles constantly to learn and improve. My eyes are open. Open yours too
      Osu
