  • Thank you all for pushing this channel over 2,000 subscribers on March 5, 2013, and as a treat, this will be my latest video.
I am posting this video for educational and historical purposes, since this is the ONLY known "in action" video of this truck. You are looking at E-Z Pack's "Residential Loader" or "Automated Front Loader" filmed in 1996. Both of those names were used to describe this body on the videos I've seen. This truck was around briefly in the mid-90s, but was quickly discontinued. There are NO known "living" examples of this model still operating in the US.
If anyone has seen one of these trucks in operation, please leave a comment with: Hauler name, Location, and Date.
I know several of these trucks were owned by LeMay Enterprises and then by Waste Management. One of these trucks was recently spotted in a junk yard in the north eastern US, other than that, these trucks are incredibly rare. There are a few similar versions of this truck operating outside of the US and those are built by Faun.
Other than that, I do not have anymore information on this vehicle. Until recently, I never thought I'd see a video of this truck in action. When I stumbled across this video, I knew it had to be shared. I hope all of you enjoy this look at an incredibly interesting piece of automated collection history.
    As always, thanks for watching.

I can't believe I found this video. This was filmed in Columbus, Ohio. I can tell because of the toters and other carts used and the markings on them, as well as the streets, houses, scenery, plants, alleys, 300s, red rumpke recycle bins they used in the 90s, and of course the distinctive yellow trucks operating in the background at one point. That makes this the oldest video documentation of the Columbus department of public service. It's cool to see all Heil 300s since there's only a few still in use today. Thank you for sharing this groundbreaking footage

The arm is directly aligned with the driver it probably was discontinued with potential hazards

Definitely a most curious design. Thanks beyond words for uploading. I'm surprised more companies besides WM and LeMay never bought these....they're not the worst trucks, decent reach, good cycle team, high hopper capacity, and it really handled those 300s good. Reminds me of an ASL, FL (for obvious reasons), and MSL hybrid with that packer. Now we just gotta find the original POD design tapes lol. Still can't really believe I found these tapes

Such an exquisite truck! The most unique design I've seen, looks like half a front loader fork set. Sure is intriguing the way it operates, swinging wide to grab the carts and quickly accelerating to the hopper. An 8 second dump cycle can be compared to that of an LA Amrep! Reminds me slightly of a CoolHand because of the far reach of the arm. Nice work capturing this one of a kind, awesome truck in action!

This is a really cool truck. My current recycle driver described to me that he used to drive one of these. He said that they were called "wimi" trucks. I had searched all over the internet to find them but I wasn't successful. The yard they were from is Waste Management, Antioch IL, about 1 hr north of Chicago. They operated in the northern suburbs of Chicago and I believe it was in the late 90's. I have never seen one.

This is my favorite garbage truck of all time. i don´t know why it got discontinued because the faun easypress is popular in Germany, but is rare because it is so expensive.
the Sanitation that services my county and a couple of other countys uses the faun easypress. I am going to work there in the summer and i hope they let me drive it. If so, i´ll see if i can film it. Greetings from Germany.
    Sanitation name: Lobbe

Very nice truck! I could see that being used in a couple of different ways. The body it self was much better than I've seen lately. Take the body and mate it to a Labrie arm (any) and it would work great. The arm on this truck is a bit overbearing. I could see people hitting overhead wires pretty easily. Same as a curotto can front loader.

Awesome video I work for a family owned trash company in Mn we actually got to demo one of these. Worked well but in areas with low tree branches and alleys truck wasn't feasible. Our company ended up going with STS trucks until they went out of business. We have over 100 trucks in our fleet now and still have 7 late model STS trucks that are used daily. Thanks again for posting this video really brings back some memories of the good ole days

Wow I also never thought I'd get to see one of these in action, very interesting and special equipment E-Z Pack put together. Cool watching the arm and how it functions. I see it works well in cul-de-sacs being able to collect the bin at all different angles, even from the front! Wonder what happens when the body fills, like if the material falls back into the hopper. No problems with the hopper size lol Unique seeing the cab cover operated manually. Very entertaining, thanks for posting :D

  • @georgewuzheer
    @georgewuzheer 11 лет назад +2

Wow this thing is way better than I had expected! Even better visibility than a Curotto, handles cul de sacs just as well, and pretty fast too. The reach is the only real problem, the arm moves in an arc so it needs a bit more space. Wouldn't work with a lot of objects in the way like closely spaced carts. But otherwise looks like a real winner! Wasn't expecting the hopper cover to work that way either, but very cool. Huge thanks for posting this, going straight to the favorites.

they are pretty rare because they break down alot and they have high maitenance costs. i drive one of those myself and lobbe is the only sanitation i know that have those. anothe sanitation that still has them is the sanitation of steinfurt county up north in NRW. France also has them but i havent seen any videos of the french ones. In Dennmark they also have the Easypress trucks to. Greetings from Germany :)

The only surviving remnant of this beast is the Faun version, which is identical except for the cart gripper which is Euro on theirs. The EZ Pack AFL definitely deserved more recognition than what it received. At one point, they told me it was coming back. But sadly, the company changed hands & it wad replaced with the wanna be Rapid Rail ASL they have now.

Truly an interesting (but strange) ASL design. I'd imagine, besides the constantly protruding arm, a truck like this would probably be quite nice for less experienced operators because they can see where the can and grabber line up more easily
