Selma & Valley Grande are 2 separate cities and it's neighborhoods in Selma city limits that actually looks like that as well. Mainly near the country club on the west side of town.
Valley Grande is incorporated and not part of Selma Valley Grande is a city in Dallas County, Alabama, United States, just north of Selma. Incorporated in early 2003, Valley Grande has a mayor-council form of government.
I can ride a bike up the street from Wallace community college area to Vg. Yea they have those positions but let's be real, one house will be in Selma and your neighbor in VG. As a matter of fact that's how my home zoning is.
I was born and raised in Selma. Valley Grande is it's own city with it's own govt. etc. as others have stated. The Cahaba River isn't anywhere close to Valley Grande. Valley Creek is fairly close by. You are probably smelling the Hammermill paper mill lol. When I was growing up Selma was a bustling, thriving city until Jimmy Carter closed Craig AFB in 1977. Selma never recovered: ruclips.net/video/_WLt_tPLrtY/видео.html. When I left the population was 30K now it is 17K. Crime is out of control. Most of the people I went to school with left as I did. One thing is for sure you aint gonna be buying any of those houses in Valley Grande making 25K a year.
Thanks for highlighting Valley Grande! We are going to retire there. Moving from Ohio because I found my dream home and yes it is so beautiful. Plus the people are so friendly.
Watch the weather maps this summer clouds all bunch up from mountains below birmingham to montgomery, think the hills and mountains have a lot to do with it selma and going west is sorta dry savanna type country.
Thank ya for trying to help promote Selma my home town. But Valley Grande is incorporated and is its own town and they proud enough to tell ya so!!! LOL. And I hate to bust ya bubble I know ya love to fish but the Cahaba River is out the west side of Selma, the Hwy 80 Bridge will run right over the top.
Ahh Valley Grande. When I was young and there, Valley Grande was just a group of houses outside of town. Their incorporation is nothing more, in my opinion, of an extenuation of segregation. Once the money ran out of Selma, then the whites ran out. I realized this in college when I took sociology and my ears perked up. Oh by the way, just for the record I am white.
I was in Selma a week ago. They have a Walmart supercenter. I noticed nice neighborhoods off some of the roads I traveled but didn't venture to the neighborhoods during that visit. I hope to go back soon and explore a little more. I'd love to see the older buildings converted to living spaces in the downtown area. The city is old town with so much potential but there are areas that are developing. They have a mall...Not big city mall but a mall and a Belk in the mall, which is certainly more than I had growing up in Evergreen, Alabama😆 Thanks for this! I enjoyed the ride along! And I hope you're able and blessed to get the land you desire! O! Make sure to dine in at Hancock's Bar Be Que in Selma! The food is great and the friendly family home atmosphere will keep u going back! There's an art and poetry event at the grand opening of the Selma Alabama Art House June 18. Check them out on instagram for event times / updates and make it an overnight stay at the recently renovated and opened St. James Hotel downtown #ciao👋🏾
I’m from St. Clair county, but my old job had me delivering all over the state and the south. Evergreen in south Alabama is really nice IMO. Everyone I’ve run into were super friendly and (at least the part I delivered to) seemed pretty relaxed. IMO, Selma is a tale of two cities. Some of it everyone’s as nice as can be and I doubt anyone would bother anyone. Especially around that nursing home. And then some of it i tried to avoid lmao but Valley Grande, as well as much of Dallas county, is my kind of place.
