- Here's a video of a seldom covered section of railroad and one of the easiest places to access the Winnemucca Subdivision. A loaded Westbound coal train slowly grinds up Beckwourth Pass headed to Portola and the Feather River Canyon starting West of Doyle Ca and ending at the summit near Reno Jct.
This section is easy to film being just off Hwy 395 but I haven't seen many videos from out here. I've wanted to get something out here from a few years now.
These scenes were filmed with the professional DJI Inspire 2 drone and the DJI Osmo Action.

Thanks Dan , Cool shots
Bravo Dan, nice this too,
Thanks for upload
Another excellent video. Thanks, Dan.
Thanks Ken!
Great place for the train crews to catch up on their naps! 7:10 a few roadbeds on the mtns in background appear. Very little traffic on the lower highway 70, but it looks like what's there in autos are moving 90 mph. For high desert country the colors and landscape look beautiful. And hard to believe the tunnel is 1.15 miles long! Good catch, Dan!
Thanks! Pretty neat place and yes definitely a grind for a loaded train like this.
As always great video Dan, good thing you filmed before the fire hit the area.
I'm not sure what all burned here or if the fire made it this far but it was damn close if it didn't make it to the tracks.
@@TheRailfanDan I know the fire took out some structures in Doyle
Beautiful !!
Great video thanks!
Very cool Dan! That whole stretch of railroad is within the Beckwourth Fire zone, though on its fringe. It's odd to see that granary in the middle of nowhere. Hopefully whoever has an interest in it didn't suffer fire damage if that's a possibility. Anyway, hats off to another great journey.
You find the coolest rail shots. Any idea where the train originated ? Wyoming?
Thanks! This one is a Skyline Utah coal train.
I just trace that route on Google earth and that's a loooong haul.
Dan, you think a little RainX would help with the rain spots?
This is old Western Pacific Railroad ? By the Feather river canyon route ?
Yes this is a little ways East of Portola where the canyons begin.
Thank you for another great video, Dan! This looks like another desolate area in California. Is West Pac 3005 correct in saying that one of the wildfires in California hit this area after you took this video? As the train was heading into Tunnel 37 was that the sound of dynamic brakes humming that I heard along with the sound of the engines running?
Yes it is a bit remote! There was a fire very close to here but I'm not sure if it actually made it to the tracks. It got very close if it didn't. I'm not sure on the dynamics. The rear unit should still have been pushing uphill at that point. I think the grade summits out somewhere inside the tunnel or just on the other side.
got carried away with the music?
scotts,ca plant, no rr service?
