And it turns out that while people sometimes blame genetics excessively, this is one of those areas where it really is a huge factor, because to have a given number of rows of muscle, you need certain underlying structure. It's still up to you to both exercise and eat well so that it'll actually become visible, but the structure you're born with determines what the final number can actually be.
Learned about that recently as a result of a discussion about Eren. XD (Someone had said that you can't go from an 8-pack-which Eren already had in Season 3-to a 10-pack. I do still think that's possible, by the way. Your abs don't always become visible at a uniform rate, so I think it's conceivable that a change like that could happen, especially if his fitness/activity regiment changed in a way that affected the lower sections more).
As a fun side note, while I sure don't plan to get anywhere near that ripped (doubt it's physically possible for me, and I'm not about to do any severe dieting...), this trailer did legit inspire me to get back to work on rebuilding strength and muscle tone that I'd lost due to worsening health.
It's been a real challenge, especially with being more frail these days, but the neat thing is that as I'm improving in shape, I'm finding I'm becoming more physically resilient and a little less vulnerable to health setbacks. 🤟
It's neat being able to say that this series wasn't just fun or enjoyable or even touching, but also helped bring tangible good to my life like this. I'd made some starts at getting back into shape before, but hadn't been motivated enough to stick with it for any good length of time.
I will say I've learned stuff in those interval periods that's also helping me this time around. So AoT isn't the sole factor here-but it certainly is one of the biggest ones! 😃

Lol, he was _already_ ripped in seasons prior! XD 8-pack abs, plus sculpted back, shoulders, and arms.
The ODM gear is super physically demanding to use, and they did that on top of also having more traditional military fitness training.
Even frail young Armin had a six-pack at 15. XD
But yeah, they're definitely showcasing it more here, plus he has indeed changed: he's gotten his adult height and body, and put on some serious muscle mass versus the more svelte, Levi-esque sort of muscular physique he used to have.
10-pack, plus definitely bulked up. And just guessing as a mostly anime watcher (I read the manga, but am staying clear of the Season 4 content), I think there are story reasons for this, as well. To touch on one, I've noticed that there seems to be this subtle mutual thing of Eren's human form and his Titan form each resembling each other more. And I know that the Titan was meant to have the physique of a middleweight MMA fighter, so I'm thinking Eren's human form is more like that as well.
I also wonder if he's deliberately trained up extra to deal with the strain that Titan transformations take on your body, especially that risk of actually being consumed and fully absorbed into the Titan form. Plus I think it's also partly come about as a natural result of how intense things have gotten at this point and how much he's been fighting. It looked like he had some subtle scarring here and there as a sort of hint to that.
By the way, I do think it's probably for the best that people didn't really notice too much when he was younger, as that just would've gotten awkward (like fandoms aren't scary enough already... 😅). And I'm glad that he's an adult now that they are deciding to draw more attention to his looks in that way. (And the man looks so slick even dudes are commenting how hot he is, lmbo.)
It's just that when people act like he's just now gotten in shape, I feel the need to point out that he was already crazy athletic and fit to begin with. I get exhausted just thinking of how much work that must have taken, lmbo.
The warhammer titan really surprised everyone didn't it, that's my favorite part seeing these reactions
