@SaintMurad your intepretation of the word „tawaffa“ is correct, but your conclusion is incorrect. It is right that Jesus (as) died, but not on the cross.
It says in Surah 4:158 ( when you count Bismillah as first verse otherwise it is Surah 4:157):
„And their saying, ‘We did kill the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah;’ whereas they slew him not, nor crucified him, but he was made to appear to them like one crucified; and those who differ therein are certainly in a state of doubt about it; they have no definite knowledge thereof, but only follow a conjecture; and they did not convert this conjecture into a certainty;“
It appeared that Jesus (as) died on the cross, but he did not die, it appears them so (Jesus (as) was in an unconscious state).
He (as) survived the cruxifixion and died afterwards a natural death.

How can a mere human came up with such a divine surah?
For sure it's from the creator of the universe...
O believers! Do not enter the homes of the Prophet without permission ˹and if invited˺ for a meal, do not ˹come too early and˺ linger until the meal is ready. But if you are invited, then enter ˹on time˺. Once you have eaten, then go on your way, and do not stay for casual talk. Such behaviour is truly annoying to the Prophet, yet he is too shy to ask you to leave. But Allah is never shy of the truth. And when you ˹believers˺ ask his wives for something, ask them from behind a barrier. This is purer for your hearts and theirs. And it is not right for you to annoy the Messenger of Allah, nor ever marry his wives after him. This would certainly be a major offence in the sight of Allah.

Because tawaffa, in Arabic, means "to take". The word for "dying" is "maut". "Tawaffani musliman" means "take me(to You, O God) as a Muslim", which, in this context, means death. "Cause me to die as a Muslim" in Arabic is "Ij'alni amootu Musliman" where "amootu" comes from the root "maut". Same way, when Allah said to Jesus, "Inni mutawaffika", it means, "I will take you to me". "I will cause you to die", in Arabic, would be "Inni saaj'aluka tamoot". That is not what He said. Now one can be taken to God after dying or even not dying, as what happened to Jesus(peace be upon him). In context like "take me to you as a Muslim", "to take" here means "to cause to die". So, no, there is nothing wrong with the Quran. The fault is in your poor understanding.

The quaran states that he created all things, but unlike the Bible where The LORD GOD makes the declaration throughout the Bible, Allah makes no specific declaration. I ask because, the Muslims always asks the question, where in The Bible did JESUS say HE is GOD, worship ME. Dear, 'tawaffa' can be translated to mean that God takes someone completely, as in through death God takes people to Himself. However, Jesus Christ was not destined to die, so God took him completely by raising him up to heaven.
And he is not dead. In the end times, Imam Muhammad Al-Mahdi, the twelfth descendant of Prophet Muhammad"who is absent now", will appear and rule the world. Jesus will descend from heaven and pray behind him, and when the Christians see this, they will become Muslims.

Imam al-Mahdi, also known as Muhammad ibn al-Hasan al-Askari, was born on the 15th of Sha'ban in the year 255 AH, which corresponds to the 31st of July in the year 869 AD.

The occultation of Imam Mahdi (A.J.) is a significant and complex topic in Twelver Shia thought. According to Shia beliefs, Imam Mahdi is the twelfth Imam in the line of infallible Imams who succeeded the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). There are two main occultations of Imam Mahdi:
      1. **The Minor Occultation (873-941 AD):** It is believed to have begun after the death of his father, Imam Hasan al-Askari, when Imam Mahdi was still a child. During this period, he communicated with his followers through four special deputies. The Minor Occultation ended with the death of the last deputy.
      2. **The Major Occultation (since 941 AD until now):** At the end of the Minor Occultation, Imam Mahdi began the Major Occultation, which continues to this day, during which the Imam does not directly communicate with his followers. It is believed that this occultation will continue until he is commanded to reappear to establish justice and eliminate oppression and corruption in the world.
The possible and believed reasons for the occultation of Imam Mahdi include:
      - **Protection of the Imam:** To safeguard him from assassination and persecution, as the ruling authorities at that time sought to eliminate him due to the threat he posed to their power.
      - **Testing the Believers:** The occultation period serves as a test of faith and piety for the followers, who must adhere to the doctrine and act according to the laws without the visible presence of the Imam among them.
      - **Creating the Right Conditions:** It is believed that the appearance of Imam Mahdi will occur when the conditions on earth are suitable for his leadership and the establishment of a just rule.
These reasons reflect some of the beliefs and doctrines of Twelver Shia regarding the occultation of Imam Mahdi and its purpose.

    Stupid people don't understand that
the very first translation of the Quran
was invented between 8th and 9th
    centuries about 4 generations after
the death of Prophet (pbuh), in which
    Quranic language was taken different

Is your ignorance that prevent you from understanding that some words in Arabic language have a lot of meanings and the context will give you which meaning should be taken.
For example in the Quran the same word you are talking about Allah used it in
****وانما توفون أ جوركم يوم القيامة****
Or**ثم توفى كل نفس ما كسبت **
In this two verses the word tawaffa means( to pay)
Which doesn't mean dead completely . And they're many verses in the Quran which used the same word but it cannot take the meaning of dead. You are making a claim that the Quran accept the dead of Jesus while if you have little integrity you will see in the Quran Allah is saying unambiguously that (وماقتلوه وما صلبوه)
They did not kill him and they did not crucify him. If you want to believe your god is killed by some random Jews go and believe it. But don't use the Quran please and please. And stop the translation of Quran which you said you are doing because you are not well equipt

How can being in surrender to God die? An action doesn't die.
What dies is Trinitarianism, Sunnism, Shiism, Judaism, and the sects people made up, which are not based on revelation but on human desires.
God did reveale the Qur'an, deal with it.
Jesus died, like John the Baptist, and they will be resurrected, or were so, both.
      Precisely.
      وَسَلَـٰمٌ عَلَيْهِ يَوْمَ وُلِدَ وَيَوْمَ يَمُوتُ وَيَوْمَ يُبْعَثُ حَيًّا
And peace be upon him the day he was born, and the day he dies, and the day he is raised up alive!
(19:15) (This talking about John the Baptist, and a similar verse where Jesus says it)
This is interesting because the gospels also mention John the Baptist being resurrected, or a rumor of that happening.
      Personally, i don't care.
You are the ones giving it relevance, i think Paul was a wolf in sheep's clothing, so his cross theology is wrong in any case.
Also, nowhere does the verse say when he died, it is quite possible that the cross did not kill him, and he died later, many Christians said this in the first century, Pontius also said Jesus died too quickly... that is proof that something happened there, the author wouldn't have mentioned that detail otherwise....
It is possible that he entered a comma, was not crucified, and three days later he awakened, and then or later God took him in death.
      God knows the details.
What is true tho, is that "they did not kill him nor crucify him", this is factual.
Whether this refers to the Talmud claim and not to the gospels, this is facts.

Just a quick question murad as i think you might face many of these, and those who do the work should be prepared to defend it. While i agree that mutawaffika can mean death and arguably usually does mean death. we have two competing theological processes at work. The obvious sin narrative, and the earlier Christian narrative which predates the sin. So it would be not neutral to translate mutawaffika as death as that is importing the Christian theology into the translation. The author could of used yamuwt but instead opted for a more ambiguous term if he means jesus was to die. I think therefore a neutral meaning in that verse is probably take. Although i like the more poetic sleep. In any event i do think its good good to draw attention to this as thd verse is far from clear and open to a high degree of interpretation.
Edit: actually i just thought of something, in the gospel of mark they is the messianic secret, that is no one really knows who jesus is and its a bit ambiguous as to who is thd person of jesus in mark, i think Muhammad is doing something similar here, i think he is talking to Christians and been purposely ambiguous to appeal for a wider audience. This opens an interesting line of enquiry.

It's ambiguous and further complicated by the fact that the Last 12 verses of mark are an interpolation. Which versions are floating around northern Arabia? Who knows. Muhammad is doing the same thing I think, taken up can mean he died, and it cannot depends on who is listening and that is reflected in the written text, it's all very ambiguous and needlessly so .

الله يتوفى الأنفس حين موتها والتي لم تمت في منامها فيمسك التي قضى عليها الموت ويرسل الأخرى إلى أجل مسمى إن في ذلك لآيات لقوم يتفكرون .
    Quran 39:42
There is yatawaffa in the people who sleep
˹It is˺ Allah ˹Who˺ calls back the souls ˹of people˺ upon their death as well as ˹the souls˺ of the living during their *sleep*. Then He keeps those for whom He has ordained death, and releases the others until ˹their˺ appointed time. Surely in this are signs for people who reflect.
And don't you know this verse?
and said, ‘We have killed the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, the Messenger of God.’ (They did not kill him, nor did they crucify him, though it was made to appear like that to them; those that disagreed about him are full of doubt, with no knowledge to follow, only supposition: they certainly did not kill him-

In the Quran, the death has 3 forms
    1. In sleep, the soul is raised to Allah, while the body is still alive, and Allah sends back the soul to the body. Visually, whether the person is sleeping or dead, one can not differentiate, which is alive.
    2. The second form in which the soul is raised and it is never returned back to the body. This means the end of life in this world.
    3. The third form of death, means, departure of both soul and body, and both are raised to Allah.
So it is not the Quran, which is contradictory. It is the human who doesn't have such intellect to understand the true meaning and depth of the language.

Come on your interpretation has too many flaws man first of all it's god who said inni اني which means that I. so by the mutawaffik translation ( I died) will only be applicable on the person who is the person mentioned and donot say inni cuz mutawaffik will mean you are dead but inni is here it will mean I am dead but if warafi'uk goes on it will be
I am your death and I raise you up
But If you add up اذ then inside the sentence then. You will be tangled up
    اذ اني متوفيك ورافعك
For I will cause you to die and raise you up
Idh mean I and if you add idh in this sentence with warafi'uk then you are going to drain bro cuz it will be for I cause. now a first person is talking then the mutawaffik will be automatically gone to a third person so this is the simple Grammer you fake ex Muslim Arab

  • @economician

May God bless you for your work sir. This is also the position of us Quranist Muslims. 4:157-158 confirms the crucifiction, ressurection and ascension of Jesus the son of Mary and that this was God’s plan all the time.
What the Quran is not confirming is the passion narrative, i.e the suffering and humiliatiion of Jesus. In the Quran GOD seems to cause a bodily death to Jesus shortly prior to the physical crucifiction as 3:55 indicated, killing his son so that his enemies will not torture him. GOD caused Jesus to die in such a way so that his enemies do not notice that Jesus is physically dead just like GOD did with Solomon:
”When the appointed time for his death came, they had no clue that he had died. It was not until one of the animals tried to eat his staff, and he fell down, that the jinns realized that he was dead. They thus realized that if they really knew the unseen, they would have stopped working so hard as soon as he died.”34:14
Jesus, the son of Mary was created like Adam was created and he died like Solomon died.

What reference in the Quran do you have to the eucharist?
Muhammad is highly likely referencing Jesus before his death and ressurection since Muhammad can die or be killed, see 3:144.
Ahmad is highly likely referencing Jesus post ressurection, when Jesus gets a name more praised than that of Angels( ahmad means MORE praised). See hebrews 1 and Quran 5:116)
Yes monophysitism maybe. Monophysitism in the sense that Jesus only has a human nature. See 5:17)
Jesus is Kalimatuhu/ HIS WORD/ God’s Word to Mary, God’s promise to Mary that she would give birth to the Messiah. Jesus is God’s Word to Mary fullfilled through the virgin birth. See 4:171.
Jesus is not the Angel of the Lord/Ruhuul Quds but Jesus incarnates the powers of Ruhuul Quds / Angel of the Lord which allows him to wield the natural laws to his will. See 5:110.

I am all for changing opinions ect and rejecting the SIN, but I when reading the rest of surah 3 verse 55, your logic doesn't seem to hold up (at least for myself) this is because after it says I will cause thee to die (according to your translation) it starts talking about Isa and those who follow him being placed in a high rank until the day of judgement. This suggests that Allah is talking about them whilst they are alive. You could potentially argue that Allah is talking about them when they are in their graves and this elevation of rank will take place thereafter during judgement; however this purgatory stance you take is further rejected by the next statement in the same verse which says "Then to Me is your return, and I will judge between you concerning that wherein you differed" If Allah was talking about them in any other case but when they are alive then this final part of the verse will not make sense as it suggests two deaths of Isa and those who follow him and judgement after he has already raised their ranking. You may argue that the last part of the verse (Then to Me is your return, and I will judge between you concerning that wherein you differed) is talking generally to the people who read the Quran and not to Isa, however if we anticipate quotation marks starting from verse 55 and ending at verse 56, it suggests Allah is directly talking to Isa here. This direct communication from Allah to Isa and the anticipation of quotation marks is further proved by verse 57 since then it is talking to the generality of the people who received the Quran rather than reiterating what Allah told Isa.
Moreover, I believe the translators rendered tawafaa or the root 'WFY' as "to die" since it has a plethora of meanings, one of those meanings being "to take." Every time they render it "cause to die" I believe they are slightly paraphrasing to show the reader that "to take" really means to cause to die in those certain instances. However since the root has many other meanings it does not always mean that "to take" means cause to die as the root seems to signify the completion, rendering or fulfilment of something in Hans Wehr or Lanes Lexicon.
Here are some values for the root WFY listed in the lexicons : ejtaal.net/aa/#hw4=1285,ll=3055,ls=79,la=4884,sg=1244,ha=896,br=1061,pr=170,vi=389,mgf=862,mr=803,mn=1572,aan=732,kz=2980,uqq=437,ulq=1817,uqa=455,uqw=1882,umr=1185,ums=1001,umj=953,bdw=968,amr=702,asb=1092,auh=1765,dhq=616,mht=982,msb=263,tla=100,amj=1051,ens=1,mis=1616
