Okay, seriously, looking back on this episode, how do you feel now with Biden having dropped out, Kamala taking up the torch, and all the momentum going her way? Because I agree it was depressing as hell when it was Biden and Trump (not just depressing, scary). Feel better, at least?
The entirety of Season 4 took place over the course of approximately two weeks, with each new episode picking up the day after the previous one, so Logan has been dead about a week at this point.
Tom and Greg understand something the siblings don’t: things are always changing. People and their motivations change and those changes have to be anticipated. The kids will make an assumption about a person/situation and just run with that. Greg and Tom are constantly testing the waters and shifting with the tide. Logan himself once told Shiv things are always moving.
Logan knew it too, and that was one of the reason of his immense success. "Nothing is a line, everything everywhere is always moving forever. Get used to it." he said to Shiv (and she chose to ignore)))))))
Shiv’s biggest mistake is believing she holds a superior position compared to others, allowing her to make threats that no one truly fears (in the end she is not her father). She also underestimates someone like Greg. For instance, Greg was terrified of Logan, yet even in that situation, he wasn’t afraid to ask for payment or confront Logan directly, as seen in their one-on-one conversation in ep 4x01.
Right!? Shiv's still in the princess mindset. She thinks her name alone is enough to get things done, but her dad's not around anymore. She has to take a side and actually do something.
@@davidtrainor9569I have no idea how she thinks she’s somehow deserving of a corporate post with her lack of experience. I’m not sure her college degree even matches up.
This is a great example of how politics can get dated overnight. When they recorded this things were one way, now it's so different (except the electoral college causing problems). Also, no matter how powerful a media outlet can be, final voting is outside their call. Famously there were newspapers (the most powerful media of their time) that called for Dewey winning over Truman, a headline Truman raised over his head when HE won! Voting really does matter!
“America Decides” packed a powerful gut punch at the end. It really display the root of the rot that has embedded itself in our politics that these rich man children can play such a critical role in the election only serving their ego and petty desires. Episodes like this show the staying power of the show. Succession can be hilarious, but it really watches like a more serious and better written version of The Boys.
America Decides! My favourite episode of the whole series! Team Ken, he was torn; he knew what he wanted but his children… self aware enough to know he’s not a very good father. I stan! Self aware king! Shiv thought she was talking to S1 Greg, she’s talking to S4 Greg (definitely underestimated him, but she underestimates everyone so what’s new). Also Shiv showed that given the choice between your personal gain and “for the good of the people” you will always choose your personal gain. She had the chance to try and stop Mencken by calling Nate and asking for the deal but she chose not to. Also this last season does happen over the space of a week, every day is nearly a day after each other. Tom being the face of it is only bad, if you’re not Mencken; to Mencken he probably looks like a loyalist ‘called it for Mencken’.
Shiv has the stupidest play in human history. All she had to do was say "When me and Mattson run this company, you will be in a VERY high position." Instead she does some half-assed Logan threat, except even Logan gave Greg a rum-and-coke and a theme park management job when he had some leverage. One of the worst plays in the show.
Ken was definitely initially caught between wanting to be a good person, if only for the idea of his family, and being a pure capitalist machine. But money won out.
I think what Chris is talking in the end about the ordinary people that are not really radical but just making small steps in the wrong direction for selfish reasons, they call "the banality of evil".
Huh. A few things happened in two months. Also, both Stein and Kennedy are nuts. As someone else already said, Stein is pretty much an asset for the Russian government.
If you want a third party, vote for them locally and build from there. You don't just Leroy Jenkins the top job. The world isn't that easy, and politics is a practice of several moves over time, not instant-gratification no matter how much media time is spent on the presidential race.
Most of the episode is spent fighting over the outcome of the election and seeing how scary the influence these self focused siblings have on the process. Then we watch the acceptance speech and see what has really been at stake this whole time while Roman is sitting with his legs up and praising himself for making a good night of TV. The banality of evil. This show is so gooddddddddd

I know everyone is terrible - Roman has no principles and Ken will forsake his so-called principles at the slightest provocation but All Shiv had to do was offer Greg something. He told her explicitly that he can be bought off, just give him an offer, something that everyone else in this family has been perfectly willing to do. talking about biden's compantency along with his age is not the same as talking about trump and bernies age. biden is clearly cognitively declining way more than them. he called ukraine's president putin and his vice president trump without correction. be so fr.
To be fair, Bernie is as sharp as ever. Biden was barely oriented. Sometimes even DISoriented.
@@WC-POAgreed. He’s lost his shine for me, mostly because I don’t think he can ever win over enough of the country to ever matter. Better to get in a relative moderate and then get as many seats in the Senate and House as possible.
These guys are so woke outta their minds is irritating. Go into politics then couch commandos
shiv deserves everything Tom said
this is the episode kendall cemented his place as the worst sibling and a L father
People get so mad at Shiv for not bribing Greg, and yes it was a mistake, but fucking hell they just have it out for her?
Nobody has it out for her. She's just that unlikeable.
It's not that they were mad. It's that she played her cards badly. She was all stick without carrot, and Greg called her bluff.
@@AT-rr2xw i have seen so many comments that praise kendall and roman and in the same breath fucking go aaaafter shiv for stupid shit like this
