Finally got the Prinsu rack on my 2017 Tacoma TRD Pro, and it looks AMAZING! It completely changed the look of the truck and ALL for the better in MY opinion.
I have been contemplating between Prinsu and Front Runner Outfitters' roof rack and since I have the Front Runner Outfitters' one on the wife's 5th gen, I figured why not give Prinsu a shot? While I am at it, I will be uploading a video to compare the two.

Cleanest install I’ve seen yet for the channel weatherstrip. Nicely done!
Pete Fairhurst thanks! We try!
This video is way cleaner work and better install than the other videos ive seen. Thanks.
Liked the features of the Prinsu rack better than any other, so decided to get on for my double cab Taco. Considered getting the sounddampening strip, but thought it might be kinda cheezy. Welllllll, GET THE STRIP!!! I drove it on the freeway and couldn't hear myself think it was so loud! Decided to get the strip and see if there was a significant difference in the sound. I cut it down so it only filled the narrow space between the roof and the front of the rack. I looked pretty ok, but the big test was a...test drive. World of difference! As quiet as it was without the rack. highly recommend the sound damening strip! You don't need to try to make it fit the conture of the end when it goes away from the roof to the sides of the rack.
Great video guys. Everything you need to know to make for an easy install
Love the mods bro, can't wait to see the wheels installed
Good install guys! Truck is looking awesome!
Watched it once and installed it myself the next day. Just did everything you did but built it one side at a time and connected them. Great vid!
Thanks for the positive feedback!
Awesome install video. Keep these videos coming and thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience.
BOMBS thanks for the positive vibes! We will keep them coming!
Just ordered mine from you guys! Can't wait to get it! Awesome videos btw!
Great install video!
these is what i though im ganna do it, its good that you did it first and teach me more and i learning more from you bro. Good job, love this video more then the other video i saw before way better then them...
Sor Xiong thank you! I'm glad I can help!
By far the best install video. Shared it on Tacomaworld.
vodka7martini thanks I appreciate that a lot
Good video, thx for it. Well explain. And now you need the lights to make your truck look even nicer 👍
Amazing video and well explained
Great video guys!
Clean install!!! Nice! 👍
Thanks for the great video, you guys are great.
Good stuff dudes. It gives me an idea of how the rack installs on my 2nd gen Taco
Awesome video guys
Thxx for the video guys very helpful
Good job guys! Subscribed
Another great video. The kit should have supplied stainless steel bolts, lock washers and flat washers for the roof portion to prevent rust and rust stains....
Another great and informative install! Appreciate these videos. I was thinking about having this one installed professionally, but this video made me change my mind. Will probably get the diamondback cover first but the prinsu rack is next on the list!
Super doable, good luck!
@@Runnin4Tacos Thanks again! Hope to build a rig like yours! Just bought the truck 2 weeks ago and already have a long mod list.. ;)
I gotta be honest. That’s one of the cleanest prinsu installs I’ve seen. Most of them are hack jobs when it comes to the roof part of the install
jon shearer thanks! We tried to save the roof molding as much as we could.
Best instal ....keep it up guys
Leatherkid01 thank you! We definitely will!
Great Prinsu install video. Only thing I would do differently is use a step bit to drill the holes in the weather strips.
Exactly what I’m think of 👍🏼
19mm hole punch works best 🤙🏼
Great video 👍
tea bag lmao!!! you guys are awesome
Nice video.
Why would you cut the back of the roof molding and drill for the spacers instead of just drilling it ?
hey thanks for the helpful video! quick question - how tough is that metal piece in the weather strip? I don't have a dremel and was hoping to get through it with another tool...
Excellent!
E Simons thank you very much!
I thought you had to drop the roof liner on the inside and everything. This looks easier than I thought.
wish they made these for first gen Tundra double cab! thinking of making my own
Issac Gutierrez you should and see if there's a market for it and see if you can sell them
whoa nice!
GOOD JOB COOL , LOOKS LIKE MINE ...
I was worried about doing it myself until I watched this. Great video!
Nice video. Any reason why you did not order the noise reducing trim?
Consider using a 19mm punch to make your holes in the trim pieces. Makes for a much cleaner penetration and lessens the potential for damage that a large drill bit can cause.
Yo Twonz, you think you could use a drill press to punch an exact hole in that weather stripping?
Nice 👍🏼
I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that one of the two dislikes you got was from your wife for using the new rug. Lol
Yosiph Armendariz lol nah probably just some haters, always someone out there that continues to watch our videos but always has something negative to say
Great rack install. What brand are those rain guards? Love that flat profile.
Daniel Reed they are AVS low profile, I love them!
Great video like always! Question for you, is there anything out there that can be done to prevent theft of the roof rack? lock nuts or something?
security bolts with a special head. Or use allen bolts and put bondo in the holes after you're done.
Awesome video! I wonder why Prinsu doesn’t make their own aftermarket version of the black weatherstrip with holes precut? That would be legit because you could keep the originals in case you ever removed the rack for any reason you could just throw the OG weatherstrips back on
Joshua Rizer I totally agree! That would be so legit! They don't seem that hard to make either
Facts!!!!!
Taco Twonz revisiting this idea because I just ordered a prinsu from R4T and will be installing soon. Do you think this type of product is something you guys could make and sell yourself one day?
I priced those strips at the dealership they wanted 260.00 them. They wont even sell them to you most places.
So are those cross bars basically just 80/20 extrusion bars? I wonder if you wanted extra bars, you couldn’t just get some black bars from 80/20 if it’s cheaper than going through prinsu for extras?
Question: 17 taco does have a factory alarm system?
Great job! Getting ready to install mine right now. Only thing I dont understand is why you dremeled the thick piece out of the molding. Is there a reason you cant just drill a hole straight through?
Don't have my rack yet, but this is my plan. I'm going to drill press those with a hole saw. Doesn't make sense to me to cut out so much material.
Installed mine yesterday. I tried without cutting but ending up doing exactly what they did. There is thin metal support thingy running underneath prevents from drilling through. Tried to force the issue and almost ruined the molding.
Would this rack be able to hold the ikamper sky camp mini? Thinking about putting this rack on my ram 1500
Any suggestions for a cutting wheel for the Dremel?
Is there a shipping cost ordering a prinsu rack and a Cali raise light bar kit from you guys ?
Does it make any noise when driving on highway from wind ? I didn’t see you use noise reducing edge trim on front ? Thanks looks nice man. Awesome job. We love your videos. Always watch them.
We used it afterwards sand have the reflector all the way down
So Toyota already has pre drilled holes to mount roof racks?
Do you have a link for the roof rack
Please tell me where you got your window rain guards. Those are awesome looking. They look low profile. Where did you get them?
I got them from Amazon, they are super sleek looking. They are the AVS Low Profile
Waiting to install mine. How do you like it so far? Any vibrations, wind noise, adjustments, or cons? 🤙🏽
angel torres I love the way it looks! There is definitely some wind noise just like any rack but it's minimal when I moved the wind deflector to the lowest position.
Did you guys end up needing to come back and put any more silicone? any leaks? would you recommend putting silicone on the bolts threads too?
We have never had leaking issues on any racks we install. That is plenty of silicone.
i wonder if it would have been easier to mount each side then attach the cross bars?
Not sure but I did think about that too.
I wonder if this will fit another car
Remember when pick up trucks were 2 seaters? Pepperidge farm remembers.
Hey bro, how you install the three light on the TRD Pro Grill? looks awesome. And where did you get them? link please.
David Ortez12 hey! That is actually a sneak peak for the next video! I had to modify the grill to fit those lights. I will have that up in the next video!
@@Runnin4Tacos thank you! bro I will be waiting for that video
Why the weather strip it’s not prehole? That part it’s really annoying.
Does the wind deflector part touch the paint of the roof by the top of the windshield?
The rubber piece yes
Quick question, have you seen a decrease mpg with the roof rack? Any thoughts on that ?
Thank you
If anything it's less than 1 mpg
Still no issues with vibrations and wind noise on your rack when driving at 75 mph or over?
Mark Miguel no vibrations but there is still a little wind noise. It's going to be hard to escape the wind noise, especially when you have other things up there like totes and cargo
How's the wind noise of the roof rack when driving?
Shoegum I got the piece that goes on the bottom of the wind defector and moved it to the lowest position and there's almost no wind noise.
Can you do a 50” light bar on that rack?
I'm sure you can but it'll be too wide. 40" is what I'm doing
Did you put it on top of the sunroof? Are you still be able to use it?
The pro doesn't come with a sunroof sadly. And I don't know why the top model wouldn't.
How is the sound when driving???? No one has a video on that
There is 0 sound. This is a good roof rack
It’s the weather strip new or the existing one? If it is new, why is not prehole? That rack cost more than $600 dollars.
It's existing
How wide are those extruded cross bars?
Not sure to be honest
Good job guys. How much cost this rack
It's around $650
Do you have a link ??
AK B.O no we don't, Google Prinsu Tacoma roof rack
how about get some hardened washers and a torque wrench instead of bending those cheap washers that come along in the package.
it’s less work if you get a 3/4 bi-metal hole saw and go all the way through
Did u try this?
@@epicone2449 anyone try this method?
Thanks for this video.
If I had paid >$600 to receive three sheet metal pieces and some sticks of 8020 I would have been very upset.
For some stupid reason the doesn't work on the extra cab because Toyota doesn't have factory nutserts installed. If you have the access cab you'll need to do nutserts yourself
I wonder how many people just use the prinsu rack to mount a light bar up front. It seems that most everyone I see has an empty roof rack.
DantheMan they are probably empty 90% of the time to be honest haha. I only use it when I go on camping trips
@@Runnin4Tacos either way, looks good on the truck.
DantheMan thanks man!
@@Runnin4Tacos btw I just installed the tailgate lock on my truck. Your video was a big help in doing so. Keep the content coming man.
DantheMan awesome! Also, let us know if you have any video requests
Thanks for the video. Gave you one like. Please hold te camera steady as much as you can. You panning too much. My head was spinning when watching your video. Sorry, I have to cut it short.
Any leaking so far?
No leaks
Drilling holes in the roof of the truck = too much for me lol
I stole roof rack on my Tacoma but it rattlesDo you have any idea why
Because you are a thief
U need get led light on it
Kenny Dodd yeah didn't think I would want it but now I kinda do so I might have to get them
The fuel economy sucks bad enough without sticking one of those on top.
ordered mine but I have to wait 4 weeks for shipping 🤬 and my local 4x4 shop wanted 500 to install? I will leave them nameless because I still shop there! voodoobluetacolife19💙🌮
2 months is normal due to the corona virus, lol. Pretty much every parts are shipped around that time.
Not a fan of all the bolts. Seems like legit rack but with all those bolts it’s does make it look ugly. If it was welded together it would look way better. I’m sure that would make it more expensive though.
I can see what you mean, but over all I like the rack.
Why would you put a roof rack on a pickup. That is what the bed is for.
Good video other than the horrible repetitive music. Come on guys
I really like your content but please don't move the camera around so quickly. It gets people sick.
great vid guys, but that background music......ugh
Get a new introduction, “Wassup RUclips” is getting old
Todd Coffin lol you got it
