    Great review! Definitely can save settings between photo/video though, it’s the same on my a7iv and one of the major reasons I wanted it. I assume you are selling to MPB?! 😅

    What camera are you replacing it with?

  • @RandumbTech
    @RandumbTech 9 месяцев назад +17

    You can absolutely keep the settings separate between stills and video. It's under the toolbox icon "Different Set for Still/Mv". Also, I noticed your pinky had nowhere to rest. Smallrig sells a baseplate that makes all the difference in the world.
    I bought the A7RV when it first came out and then sold it 2 months later for the same reason as you - it felt like too much camera for my needs. I just bought it again a few weeks ago. I realized what a difference the 4-way screen and gorgeous EVF make in daily use. I'm not saying you are going to regret selling it, but I sure did and am happy to have it back.

    • @mpbcom

      I cannot explain how quickly I just RAN to my camera. THANK YOU! My new gripe (partly to save face) is that the setting is not obvious enough in the menu system! Now to check what Sony cameras have that setting... I do use a Smallrig cage at the moment, just removed it for the review, maybe that's why my pinky was looking a little lost.
      That's a good point ref the screen, I would definitely be looking to replace with a screen that allowed me to shoot from the hip in portrait. You really need to stop helping me problem solve this, otherwise our next video is going to end up being "Why I'm now NOT selling my A7R V" 😂 Thanks for the tips and tuning in! Amy

      You can turn down the recorded image size. Go to the menu: _(Shooting) → [Image Quality/Rec] → [Image Quality Settings] → [JPEG Image Size]/[HEIF Image Size]._ The "Medium" setting gets close to the more traditional Alpha image size. There's a similar menu for the RAW file.

    Do you recommend buy a Sony a1 at this point if money is not a problem or should I just wait for the Sony a9iii

    • @mpbcom
      @mpbcom  7 месяцев назад +1

      When I shot this video I would have said an A1, however, if I reshot it now, I'd be finding it very hard to not be craving the a9 III. Realistically, I'm not a predominantly professional sports or wildlife shooter, and I would prefer more megapixels for my style of shooting - but there is no denying the game-changing tech the a9 III delivers. I hope we see more implementations of the global shutter design across all flagships. In short, it depends on what you're shooting. The a9 III is undoubtedly incredible, but it is also going to be expensive, hard to get your hands on for a while, and not particularly high resolution. 2024 is an Olympics year, and I would imagine business preorders will be prioritised. So actually getting hold of an a9 could be a bit of a slog.
      Maybe going for an A1 for now and then trading that for an a9 III a little later down the line when they're more readily available is the way to go. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching - Amy

    • @mpbcom
      @mpbcom  Месяц назад +1

      Hey there, I didn't find it overkill; there were just some situations where I didn't need it. For some things I was shooting, it was brilliant to have the ability to blow it up, crop it in at will, and print it in huge sizes with fantastic detail. However, for the amount and frequency that I shoot, the file management was just something that didn't work for me in the long run. Thanks for watching - Amy

      There are quite a few instances where faster shutter speeds are useful. Wildlife, sports, freezing a specific moment or action. For me personally it's about having as much control over how I want to shoot as possible. If it is a bright, sunny day, but I want to shoot wide open to narrow my depth of field, I'm going to need to be able to crank that shutter speed right up! Hope this helps and thanks for watching! @@mpbcom i get the point. what i cant get my head around is usually ,u need this fast shutter speed to capture motion. u generally want as much natural light to get in as possible. i shoot racing cars/bikes and fighter jets. for all that1/2500-3000 is more than enough. anything more, dulls the image due to less light coming in. i wanted to know just for my general knowledge as to what one has to shoot in order to go to 1/16000.

    When you don't need the high res then choose the sRAW (15MP) or mRAW (26MP). When you shoot jpg choose the smaller formats. Solved. A camera is never overkill. I use a Sony A1 and will never downgrade even if I don't use 8K video. When you need it, it's there. I also don't use multishot but probaly one day will use it. Very strange arguments to me to sell a camera . You can do with less but buying and selling is loosing money. You know beforehand you probably will never use it. Better too much functions compared to not having them.

    Do you know it is the ONLY Sony that does in-camera focus bracketing? Not the stacking; just bracketing. stacking is done in post-processing like Helicon. The stacking can be used for all sorts of images; extreme macro photos and even landscapes!

    Excellent review. I picked up the A7R5 in January of 23 and have not looked back ever since.
    I'm not sure how wise it is to purchase a $4,000 camera use it for a few months and then sell it back. And I'm not convinced that the reasoning behind selling it back makes a lot of sense to me. It probably would have been easier just to rent than to purchase and now you're selling it back.

      I definitely didn't buy it with selling it in mind, but I've just found it has ended up being more than I've needed for the type of work I'm doing at the moment. However, it does work out a lot cheaper to buy something and trade it in later, then it does to hire something for a long period of time. There is always depreciation to consider, but when you pop that up against the standard rental fee for a camera like this, it actually makes buying and then trading it back in for something else an absolute bargain!

    I agree that the multishot is completely useless for 99.9% of the users. I would never touch it for sure. The 61MP is also totally overkill, but I do love that unlike the A7R4 you can now get a 26MP raw file that offers sligthly better quality since it is oversampled from the full 61MPs. The second advantage of the 61MP sensor is that the APS-C crop becomes something very useful, with 26MP output (identical sensor to the A6700 if you use this in crop mode). So you can pair it with a 16-35 and 50-400 and have an effective range in 26MP from 16-600mm with 2 lenses!
    The only thing I don't like is the price, at double that of the A74, do you really get THAT much more, questionable.

    • @tonypmedia
      @tonypmedia 7 месяцев назад +3

      "The 61MP is also totally overkill" I highly disagree. The megapixels are great for cropping when you need t the details but I agree on that multi-shot nonsense. It's a total gimmick like she mentioned.

    • @Eikenhorst
      @Eikenhorst 6 месяцев назад

      @@tonypmedia As I said: it is total overkill, except that it allows you to crop using APS-C mode while keeping the same 26MP. In general I know in advance that I want to crop, e.g. wildlife that only fills a bit of the frame and then APS-C mode is great. Would never go through the hassle of working with 61MP files in the off change that I might need to crop deeply later in post (without realizing so and thus enabling APS-C mode already), that might have happened once or twice in my life, but I can't remember :)

      The 61MP is great for my bird shooting so I can crop in on those little guys and still have good resolution. When I do vertical pano stitch, I like to use the 26MP mRAW as I usually do 4xp with 1/3 overlap so I still get around 70MP worth of image. The mRAW is great for astro too.
