As an avid batch-paint hater myself, I have to give to you. Amazing commitment and patience, especially with the shields. Nothing can quite beat a full square-base regiment with each individual mini given this level of detail 🤩
Excellent work! Here is an easy tip for dealing with chainmail, I get rather good results by using a #2 HB pencil. Just leave the area that has chainmail in flat black, let things dry then come back with a #2 pencil and run it all over that area and in a short amount of time, done. If things look too shiny a simple thinned out wash of Nuln Oil or very watered-down black paint tones things down, the results look much more realistic.
Amazing. Truly love these old minis. The shields are just mind-boggling to be honest. Work of art, and this is not just some random thing I throw out often .
Great work, congrats for the freehand Shields 😊 I grew up eye drooling on the newer miniatures, I never heard about these. Great to discover these old gems with you 🥰
Great to see some "proper" Oldhammer stuff on this channel, you really nailed that 80s Citadel vibe with those shields. Overall your painting style is very 90s, that combined with the Goblin Green bases makes the unit look a bit more modern (as in 90s, not 80s), but it works very well. Great job!
The free-hands are absolutely astounding, but the rest of the painting is really excellent, too. This channel is responsible for getting me into oldhammer!!
I played 4 th & 5 th warhammer fantasy your vidios remember the good old times. I still have 3000 points wood elf army from that time. Keep up the good work
I can’t believe I put up a video on Gudruk at nearly the same time you go and do the entire unit! Deets you are the inspiration behind my (very much inferior) attempt at recording my painting sessions. 10/10 as always, and glad I now have this amazing reference to ogle at!
I always have two pots with clean water, the first one to clean most of the paint from the brush and the second one to leave it even cleaner. That way I don’t have to worry about going from normal paints to metallics and back to the non metallic ones.
Well done! I painted this unit couple of years ago, using mainly washes and metalics (method I took from Rush the Wash youtube channel), as my Orc and Goblin army had to be a quick project... But then I started painting faces on the shields and it took much more time :D
Absolutely stunning bud, lovely classic miniatures and you've done them justice. This is one of those bucket-list sets for many an oldhammer fan. I had no plans to take part in. Orktober/Orctober this year, but while I was ill I decided to have a crack at trying out slapchop-underpainting. Got some classic Heroquest Orcs done and realised I'd accidentally taken part after all 😂 Lovely work bud, carry on being awesome and take care.
What an absolute banger of a unit. This is what happens when you sense authenticity and love behind a product: you give it your own back and put the extra effort. Amazing, mate.
yours are some of the few videos on you tube I actually wish were longer! brilliant stuff. id love to see an in depth video of your paint slogging on a single mini- but I will settle for whatever you post :)
I much prefer the old 80's Orc aesthetic, so it may not be a surprise that I thought you knocked it out of the park. Special mention, your free hand shields were top shelf! I've already painted my Lund Orc for October, just have to finish the base.
Amaizng job Elsely free hand! It was soo much greate Wold lile also to have picture of all of them finis bacose on the spining thin we did not saw it all.
Holy smokes!! You've outdone yourself this time. These Orcs look just amazing, and your commitment to paint each one to such a high standard, and with those shields, is absolutely incredible.
I prefer the old minis to the newer ones. I don't know why, but they just seem to have more character. I have three of theses models shown from way back when, I must have gotten them in a blister back when I played D&D a lot. Watching this video I thought about stripping them and repainting them but decided against it. Thanks for the video!
Cheers mate, the work is astonishing as ever! I really felt inspired and wanted to paint my wood elf shields this way and I failed quite badly. So if you could do a tutorial on how to make those face shields with a simple design, I'd be really greatfull! Keep up the good work and take care!
The old Regiments of Renown are great have several for my Dwarves, Bugman's Rangers enough for one 20 Dwarf unit & enough Prince Uther's Imperial Dwarves Dragon Company to make two units of 25.
as a younger man, I never understood why "regiments of renown" existed, the units never seemed any more powerful or useful compared to units in the army book, but I think I understand now why they existed, it was just a fun way to use miniatures in your army that would otherwise not really be a good proxy for a unit in your army book, at least that's how I would interpret their existance, or also, its a way that they can produce fun and unique miniatures on a small scale that people can collect and paint and add some flavor to their armies that is different from standard units.
The freehand is nuts, what a commitment
Yeah those shields.
Thanks mate! I’m glad you like how they turned out 🙌
To bad you cant see it behind the command models. =(
Need to play some old world and go wider.
And it turned out so well! Just fantastic to see the unit all together like that!
@@grlmgorno the larger bases of old world suck 😂😂
Anyone that doesn’t like Oldhammer aesthetics is dead to me. Amazing work.
Bath in Blood at Orcs Drift and you will be changed.

The entire paint job is great but dude those shields!!! Amazing.
They’re amazing Deets! The freehand on the shields is majestic! You’ve outdone yourself this time
Thanks so much mate! I’m glad you like how they turned out 🍻

I never knew these models existed. The freehand shields look great!
I love sitting down to one of your videos after a long day ❤
do love retro mini's they have so much character, really takes me back to being a kid and buying these in store.
Sweet paint job, those square green bases are doing it!🤯
I have always loved the models from Rugluds. I have a unit of 30 of them.
I can’t believe I put up a video on Gudruk at nearly the same time you go and do the entire unit! Deets you are the inspiration behind my (very much inferior) attempt at recording my painting sessions. 10/10 as always, and glad I now have this amazing reference to ogle at!
Gorgeous my dude! Those shields are something else! And the contrast on the Orc skin 😚👌
Thanks mate!
Great video, I still have these minis in my army and always will .
Classic models with an outstanding paint job 👍

Unbelievable work. The freehand at the end was next level
Oh wow - cheers mate - this put a smile on my face! I still have to this day my painted Ruglud's Armoured Orcs! One sub gained sir!
The work on the shields was totally worth it, looks incredible!

Haha. This makes me feel very old. This was the first box of minis I bought when I got into the hobby.
What a time to be alive! 👌
@@anvilofdoomminiatures love how they came out. Especially the shields. That’s some on point Old Hammer right there!
The tribe feasted upon Goblin-flesh long into the night - all except for Ruglud, who couldn't get his helmet off.
lol
Great contribution to Orktober!
Amazing work as always man, those shields are insane

Congrats on getting to 10k subs. Lovely video with classic minis
These are awesome, that freehand rocks. Might need to dig out some orcs!
Amazing work. I had these when first out. Brilliant,
These are brilliant! Might steal some of these techniques for my Ironjawz.
mate!!! these lads were looking brilliant but those shields are an absolute show stopper! They look amazing!!
Great! I've never thought about trying to make orc skin look old and wrinkly, will definitely give that a try
This is so great Deetz!! It’s been awesome seeing you work on these on the discord!
Really love this one. Very cool
Just found out this is where a few of my oldest orcs came from! Got 4 halberders in a trade with my cousin nearly 2 decades ago
So bloody cool, well done
Stunning! Love the work on the shields.
Thanks mate!

Incredible
Holy shit, these are so good!
These are ace!
Great job with the shields. How cool are their little faces though.
Thanks so much! I appreciate it
Amazing!!
The freehand faces on the shield are awesome, some of your best work yet! For Orc-tober I'm painting up a classic Doom Diver catapult!
Thanks mate! Nice, I love me a Doom Diver 🙌
That freehand is legit. Great job!
Those free hands!!

You're totally right, these guys would make an amazing mordheim warband!
