The freehand is nuts, what a commitment
Amazing. Truly love these old minis. The shields are just mind-boggling to be honest. Work of art, and this is not just some random thing I throw out often .
I was ready to say the skin on those boyz was some of the best painting I'd seen in a long time, then you started on those freehand shields. I'm awestruck. Seriously, gob open amazed.

Well done! I painted this unit couple of years ago, using mainly washes and metalics (method I took from Rush the Wash youtube channel), as my Orc and Goblin army had to be a quick project... But then I started painting faces on the shields and it took much more time :D

Honestly? I hit that like button as soon as I saw what you were painting, these are classics! Then I saw your freehand shields and wished I could smash that like button again - completely brilliant and just top off that ‘80’s vibe.
Although I do wonder about all those 1980s Orcs and Goblins with their beautiful shield designs. Are they all frustrated artist? Could a Waaagh! be derailed by opening an art college in their path? Or do they have some poor Tilean painter imprisoned back at camp, being poked with pointy sticks by snotlings until he’s finished today’s shield quota?

Waagh! I love Orktober. This video makes me happy - and a little sad because i only have one single classic ork left over to paint this month.
On the contrast paints - i also rarely use them as is, but aside from shading and blending, i also sometimes use them as a "basecoat + wash" when i know that i'm painting over most of it anyway.

as a younger man, I never understood why "regiments of renown" existed, the units never seemed any more powerful or useful compared to units in the army book, but I think I understand now why they existed, it was just a fun way to use miniatures in your army that would otherwise not really be a good proxy for a unit in your army book, at least that's how I would interpret their existance, or also, its a way that they can produce fun and unique miniatures on a small scale that people can collect and paint and add some flavor to their armies that is different from standard units.
