This video is very timely for me, as I have a seized engine in the 1970 Beetle that I recently purchased. I'd be interested in seeing a teardown of a seized engine, as it would help me when I get around to it in the spring. Thanks! I've enjoyed your videos as they have taught me a lot about Beetles already.

I would put the engine on the engine stand and turn the engine vertical, so that the oil you put in it goes all around the piston rings instead of just one side. Good luck.

Oddly enough I just borrowed my buddies yolk tonight to set my engine on the stand for a Volkswagen engine.
I tilted it on its side and letting it soak, now I have to tilt it the other way. I didn’t get it on the stand yet though.

I just got one of those engines to turn over. Pulled the heads and beat the Pistons loose in the jugs. Only was stuck in 2 jugs. Ran a honer for a quick minute. Put the heads and push rod tubes back on and all the shrouds. I'll fire it up this weekend. I also expect it to smoke like a chimney! 😂

Hi Slades. This video may be less than your normal stuff but it was helpful nonetheless. We all need to know that hardly anything will go as WE want it but rather the way IT wants to go. The inability to turn this dual port engine is a good lesson in itself, much gratitude extended to you. My vote is I am very interested in seeing what caused the engine to seize so an extra video showing you tearing it down is a good idea even if you eventually get it to turn.
Again, thanks for a good video and please keep them coming and know they are appreciated.

Nice parts haul!! The Empi shocks you got are they the “heavy duty” ones? I’ve been considering them as I’ve read they are kind of between the factory oil and a gas shock, something a little more sporty but won’t beat you to death. Also when you were removing the spark plug, why did you loosen them tighten back and forth? Another great video!!

It says they’re heavy duty, but I can’t speak much for them yet. I spoke with somebody else that was using them, and they said they gave a very nice ride.

@ethangregory8141 Oh OK, I know what you mean now. I just use a 36 mm socket with a breaker bar, and possibly a pipe extension. But, remember to rock back-and-forth gently with it when it starts to move.
And also of course make sure those cylinders have oil or lubrication in them to break the rings free.
I don’t like using the bolt on the front of the motor, crankshaft pulley, if it is frozen too tightly.

@SladesVWBeetle ok so I have to remove the flywheel to be able to use the socket on it? All I see in that spot is the hole where the shaft from tranny goes into it. And ya I don't wanna use the front bolt I feel like it will brake the bolt and can't rock it back and forth on the side. I wish I could add the picture mine to show you what I mean.

@SladesVWBeetle wanted to say thanks. I figured it out I need to remove the clutch. Sorry new to this. But I really appreciate the videos you make. They will help me work on the bugs I have.
