I have a long neglected UK registered KZ400 from 1978 or so. I have watched a few carb vids but I think your incremental approach is the one I am going to follow before I touch my carbs
Great video! I'm working on a 74 kz400 and I'm not getting as much power as I think I should at 4k RPM. Haven't been troubleshooting for long just glad I have it rolling at this point. This might be my next step.
good vid, I'm subscribed. I like watching guys that know what they are doing, especially when you can tell its self taught. Please don't take offense to that, I feel its an honorable trait to be willing to roll up ones sleeves and dive in; then walk away with new skills and information. Well done.
Hey Michael I just bought one off my next door neighbor to start restoring. Here's my question- how do you know where to start? I e never done this before. Should I just take the engine off and try to rebuild it using the shop manual?
My main goal is for it to be as reliable as possible and not having gotten any info about the bike or the state it is in internally, I'm really thinking about completely going through the engine and carbs. Any advice on general diagnosis before getting elbows deep in it? Should I maybe try to take it to a shop or mechanic for a very general check up? I don't want to fix what ain't broke.
Hey man I cannot get the throttle cables off to save my life... had a 81 kz440ltd never had this problem, seems like the cable holders have been crimped closed maybe. Anything I might be missing?
michael padgett thank you very much im trying to do a kick i only wiring system but i cant seem to get it to start. it has spark and fuel and will turn over but wont start
michael padgett i checked spark by using an inline spark checker and fuel because it comes out of the bottm of the float bowl if i flood it the battery is brand new

We used to swap to the mag wheels getting them of later model wrecked ones.
Was a semi common swap back then.

Careful with the carb cleaner around those diaphragms! It doesn't take much on the diaphragms before you have to buy replacements. BTDT :-)
Michael Padgett, I had to take the front end of to get the vehicle. Do you know if there is a video in the series of you reassembling the front end?
