I'm thankful that Tori dived headfirst into the topic of transgender issues because hearing Connie speak about her perspective makes me feel less alone. I believe discussing this is super important for heavy music. It saddens me to realize there are not many transgender people in heavy music; I truly love metal with all my heart. Everything in my life has changed, but metal has stayed with me. Hell, since transitioning, I've doubled down on it! 😂 Now that I’m not emotionally dull, metal feels insanely good to me. I have almost an identical opinion on the issue. When Connie mentioned the internal struggles some transgender women face, I felt understood by a peer like never before. It feels eerily odd to be in such a welcoming environment yet still feel somehow out of place. Thank you so much for this episode and for being awesome! 🖤
@@clarenegraceyTransitioning doesn’t lead to becoming sterile 100% of the time, it’s a side effect. To answer your other question, as a trans person, starting to transition saved my life, before i was a numb, depressed, alcoholic, and i was a considerably overweight. I had stopped showering and brushing my teeth because i hated seeing my own body and looking in the mirror. Once i started my transition it was almost like someone took a blindfold off of me, all of my emotions became incredibly vibrant and strong. I reconnected with old friends, i started a band, found the motivation to go to therapy, repaired my relationship with alcohol, and found love for myself. Starting estrogen saved my life. Gender Dysphoria is not a mental issue, it’s a physical one. It stems from a hormonal imbalance in the brain and body caused at birth and the way to treat it is with hormones. You're a man cosplaying a woman, don't fool yourself. You can love women's clothes, makeup, manners - there's nothing wrong with that, but you'll never be a woman. This is an unchangeable biological fact, I'm sorry, but life is not an RPG where you can "create your own character".
As someone who is a trans woman and has always been afraid to have a public platform/be upfront about this or even present the way I would like to, Connie is a massive inspiration. Genuinely love this interview and this is fantastic.
Connie has great taste in music. All the bands she mentions are great. I was the same way in hs, listening to most of those bands .. loveee fbtmof, chiodos, blessthefall etc and panic /tokyo police club, Interpol, etc.. now I can see why I love this new record so much based on the inspirations. The first time I heard sysc I remember thinking wow I haven’t been this excited about music since I first got into fear before the march of flames, Underoath, chiodos, alesana, drop dead, gorgeous, a few of my fave bands. I saw them open for Fall of Troy and have been a fan since.
She is the reason I got into screamo. I already dabbled with William Bonney and Old Gray and skramz type stuff, but hearing Absolutely Absolute Absolution by spacecowboy forever changed my taste in music. It had led me to finding songs that make me feel emotions like no other (such as Disquiet by Naedr) and led to me listening to foreign music. Screamo is a universal language I swear. It's everywhere. Incredible bands across the globe.
I went to highschool with this dude. This is weird lol i went to check in on him and this is what i see. WOAH. He was singing back then but what happened lol.
as someone who does not completely understand the transgender walk of life, i very much appreciate this interview. i clicked to watch for the music analysis behind sysc's albums, and i learned about another side of reality that is unapologetically present. very glad i chose to watch this video, and i thank connie and tori for delving into this nuance that has been questioning the scene. much love to EVERYONE and god bless!
on another note, i notice the tattoo on connie's hand. i am very religious and am wondering the context of it (how it is cut off at the fingers, etc.)? i am building my own sleeve with many religious contexts to christianity, and i am wondering if it might change the way that i build the ink up my arm.
I love SYSC but I feel there has been this mix of dance waltz metal etc. I immediately look at Golden Age of grotesque by Marilyn Manson. 1930's burlesque/dada/waltz elements all over it.
here after a wouldbe bandmate disappeared on me smh idk what im complaining here for it's frustrating though i want to meet more ppl to work with in musical releases we did make stuff though feels weird to get abandoned
