The “non-virgin to use tampons” thing is so wild bc even if they don’t believe it concretely, they sorta do. My dad gets uncomfortable the few times he sees me buy tampons, so I’ll get pads too and he visibly becomes more comfortable.

I was chilling with my friends as I told them: "I gotta grab tampons on our way home" all of my friends just nodded but one girl said:"Wait did you and Jake....?" And shoots me a suggestive look. I ask her what because I am confused and she says: "Sleep together". I couldn't help but burst out laughing. Had a teacher in culinary school scold a girl, because she was absent a week every month. Teacher said things like "pfff it can't hurt that much" and "cramps? That's the stupidest excuse I've ever heard!"
    And then the kicker:
"....I never had cramps when I had my period!"
Yep - teacher was a woman in her late 50s. She also said things like "you are a weakling if you need maternity leave. I worked full time right up until I gave birth. Pregnancy isn't a disease."
I went to the school computers and printed out a list of the many health issues women can face when pregnant. Gave it to her and she threw it away with a "like I said, women today are weaklings! Back in *my day* these issues didn't exist!"

Tbf, pregnancy is NOT a disease, but yes, it is a medical condition, that needs managing.
What's really messed up imo is that people are either going "omg, she's preggo, better wrapped her in cotton' or 'pff, she's preggo, she can still do exactly the same things as before'; like, there are SO that won't have sex with their mamy baba, but others SO that will jump the new mom the moment the baby is out with no care and concern.
Like, can we agree that, like, say, someone with diabetics or a heart disease or any other manageable and/or treatable conditions, it pays for expecting moms to be a bit more cautious about some activities than 'normies" (whatever that means), but it's no reason to seal yourself away from society? And also, like with diabetes or heart disease, each case is unique and what might have worked for one person may not work for others?
I guess what I'm saying is, can we listen to individuals while admitting no one knows everything, instead of pigeonholing large swaths of the population based on vague opinions we don"t care to fact-check?

One time in 8th grade My pad leaked through during lunch and you could se it on my pants a teacher spotted it during lunch. I thanked her and headed to the nurse for a change of pants. When I got back my 3 guy friends asked why the teacher called me over and made me late to lunch, and why i was wearing diffrent pants. Being embarrassed over my period I told them not to worry about it, but they were insistent because they were my friends and they wanted to know. So reluctantly told them I had to change my pants cuz if as on my period. They all IMMEDIATELY recoiled in horror and asked " why would you tell us that that's disgusting!" I said "you kept asking! You wouldn't drop it" there were like "yeah well we didn't know that was gonna be the answer!we thought you got dresscoded or something! Oh my gosh were EATING LUNCH!" I said " don't ask questions you don't want to know the answers to!" At the time I was mortified cuz that was one of those "worst case scenarios" with telling boys about your period. They were good friends most of the time but this reminded me that no matter what we were all still in 8th grade and we were all stupid and clueless when it comes to the opposite genders puberty(thanks texas health class education sytem.) Lemme give you a quick summary of what you need to know, and possibly research, just for the reason that I like explaining things
      1. There are three holes, we do not pee out blood
      2. Periods can have excruciating cramps
      3. Pads and tampons are sized as in how heavy the flow is ex: small=light flow
      4. We bleed for about a week, about every month. It varies
      5. Please don't mistake panty liners for pads. They're like pads but small and useless for heavy flow
      6. Periods vary from person to person. They can be a week long and they can have two in one month
      7. If a woman is anemic and is on their period. Watch out when they stand up, we can pass out and collapse due to a blood rush (depends on the person. I know I tend to almost pass out)
      8. As long as you have good hygiene and you clean yourself, periods are not dirty. Gross, but not dirty. The "hEE-hEE" cleans itself
      9. Don't make your girlfriend put soap up there to clean it. That would be like putting soap in your eyes, and can make her sick
*If you have any questions, I'll give you a basic answer, but I absolutely recommend going to Google*

  • @Jared7873
    @Jared7873 3 года назад +56

Rely tampons weren't meant to be worn the whole period. They were meant to be worn as usual, changed 5 times a day or whatever. But the thing is, they were really absorbent. Women felt comfortable leaving them in longer. (I used them then too, I had very heavy periods.) So bacterial growth (Staph aureus) would build up, sometimes producing toxins that would cause shock. Luckily I went with a schedule and not how long I could leave them in. I did accidentally forget and left a Today sponge -- birth control that absorbed sperm -- in a couple days, and it didn't take me long to feel the effects of my error. It hurt! By the way, I got pregnant using a sponge and a condom, and the condom didn't break.

I walked up behind a coworker and saw that she (yes SHE) had googled "What happens to the egg, when a woman has her tubes tied?" She was married. She had been discussing the topic with two other married women. She and one other had children. Yet, the childless pre-menopausal spinster that I am had to explain it.
Me: The same thing that happens when it isn't fertilized.
Her: How does it get past the tied tubes to expell, when you get your period.
Me: (ironic pregnant pause)...(still staring at her dumbfounded)...(finally)...Ummm, that isn't what happens to the egg each month. The egg basically dissolves and is re-absorbed by your body. Your period is the shluffing off of the thickened layer of uterine lining.
The three of them just stared at me, until I walked away...horrified that I had just explained to 3 grown women something I've know since I was 10yo. No, my mother never explained anything to me. Our school system brought in a nurse to talk to the 5th graders. The boys left the classroom, while the nurse explained the monthly cycle and sex and pregnancy to us girls. Then she went to the boys and explained things to them...I wasn't there, so I don't know how much she told them.
Oh, and in high school, a girl behind me in a class told me she might be pregnant. Of course my first question was "when was your last period?" She responded with "Your period has nothing to do with being pregnant." So, she was obviously sick the day the nurse showed up to her 5th grade class.

Many cultures shame women on their periods. It's not as unusual as you might think. It begins with things like it never being talked about (between women) or the guys laughing at it when going through what it is about in sex ed or similar. Some cultures outright stop women from touching and interacting with things because they perceive a menstruating woman to be "dirty" or "unholy". How often have you or your friends joked about PMS? Or women being emotional? Or hormonal? When the truth is that during a period hormones are some of their lowest? It's the sudden drop that causes some of the irritation. It's not an irrational reaction and frankly, women are putting some brave faces every day because people just can't seem to handle the fact that we may not always be sunshine and smiles.

The strange part is cancer can be basically (though not technically) contagious in some cases. HPV (Human Papillomavirus) is a carcinogen and is contagious through sexual transfer. So the "dumb" uncle might actually be sort of right. Though of course his cancer likely isn't "cervical" cancer because he likely does not have cervical tissue to begin with (though there is a non zero chance that he does have some, more so if he has older sisters).

    • @immkk1125
      @immkk1125 Год назад

      Hm...
It took me a google search to see that's not what HPV is
HPV is a virus that affects the cutaneous tissues of the body. The virus is contagious but it is NOT cancerous...
Cancer is a complication due to the constant build up of scar tissue and cellular damage, not a direct result of the virus. In fact in 9 cases out of 10 of HPV infections will go away on their own, the remaining 1 percent is all of the complications you can get from it if left untreated.
So no it doesn't CAUSE cancer, but it can make you more prone to have it especially if you do not get treatment.
And lastly, the dumb uncle said that to his wife who had CERVICAL CANCER, not HPV...so idek why you brought it up in the first place since cancer on it's own is not contagious

Not a man who said this but A WOMAN. so you know how in 5th grade the boys and girls get taken into separate rooms to watch their respective "Just around the corner" puberty videos? Well the teachers asked if we had any questions and my friend raised her hand and said "can you tale a bath on your period?" This grown ass woman who I'm guessing was at least 30 or so replied " oh of course! And you can't go swimming too!the force of the water should just sort of hold the blood in your body." Guess who was traumatized by the first and only bath on their period!I'df you guessed me you'd be correct. That did NOT help me feel better about puberty, it may have actually made me feel worse. I thought I was bleeding "too strong" cuz the water wasn't holding the blood in. Like, it's a smooth muscle. If you dont know what that is a smooth muscle is one that you dotn have to consciously do anything to make it work. It works on its own. Like your heart, stomach and throat. Basically your whole digestive system actually.

@@axelling_atk hell nah dude. she's just extra Moody lol. I live with her so of course I can't escape it but if I can do stuff to not make her mad and shit, then I definitely take those steps lol. Dealing with women on their periods is a ride in itself lol

@@_NightmareVideo if someone were to avoid me on my period, it would feel like they find me extra annoying and that I should suppress my emotions. so yea, if you’ve already discussed that topic with your wife and came to the conclusion that avoiding each other on her period is the best, then you can keep going, but if you guys didn’t discuss that topic yet, then I recommend that you guys do 👍
