Watch out. They are also called “widow makers”. They drop limbs to balance structure and to reduce size in droughts...cheers, Johno

    Hello,
So you planted it about 3 years ago how big was it when you put it in ground, did you grow it from seed ?

How is this tree doing? I am getting a seedling in the mail this week. I'm very excited. I live in FL zone 9b. We do get two months of winter so I think I'll keep it indoors til the end of Feb. The few days of freeze are what I worry about. I'm sure once the trunk is at leas 3 inches it should be insulated enough to take it. I have other tropical trees and that's been the case.

Man! It's so beautiful. Yet so dangerous. Would love to have one. But I live In south Texas. " Hurricanes". I'd plant it by the creek and watch it grow from a distance. 😀

Hi David, I know this is 2 years later, but FYI, I live in Central Florida on a lake where I get high winds (30-60mph) and lots of rain. I planted a rainbow E. in 2014 that was 6in tall. It is now 250ft tall with beautiful colors, loves the wind and rains. I planted it near the lake edge.

As many before me have said it is very bad idea growing a 200 plus ft. tree next to any and all foundations. roots and trunk will destroy that home. good luck it is a beautiful tree, but you haven't seen its true rainbow yet. repeat, bad idea growing next to any foundation as it will destroy slabs soon. good luck.

it is unwise to plant it so close to a building, in 5 years trunk will push against the building, in 10 years you will be either moving the tree or the building
