  • Sunday 11th May 2024 we returned to take on The Lap again. A beautiful, but challenging 48 miler around The Lake District.
This time, it didn't go so well. Chasing sunset became chasing survival and the finish line.

Great vid well done.. but the congestion and those bottle necks near the start looked very frustrating. I’m doing the anti clockwise in September hoping for a good day.

Great video. Genuinely felt like I was the only one finding it tough during the first half. Too hot, too steep. Having some remorse about not entering again for 2025 though... Thanks for sharing.

Yep that heat also ended my Race at Wansfell Pike, took me over an hour to get up it, but recovered on less steep climbs, i was just glad to finish my 1st Ultra.. Great Vid

Fantastic video, really summed it up well! What a brutal event with that heat. I didn't get in until well after 4am but I quite agree - we go again, because that's what we do 😊

Huge well done on finishing, it was soo hot, my feet let us down and we ended up walking back to Troutbeck🙈 we will be back next year. Great video

You just missed us feeding jelly babies to tired runners at the top of Loughrigg- we made a (very) brief appearance in your video, though! I’m in awe of anyone who finished in that heat. A tough event indeed. Great video.

Your video logs are great, so well produced with fab music and highly appreciated levels of banter! I live in Windermere and passed loads of runners who were struggling this year so you guys were not alone. The heat was brutal, the dementor of fast times! I was gutted May sold out so quickly for the Lap next year, but after watching this I’m pleased to be doing the slightly cooler September event instead 🤞. You watch, it will be 30 degrees in September now 😂. A monumental effort, blooming well done to you and your team👏👏🥳.

Thank you! That is really kind of you to say! They take me far too long to do, but I enjoy them, Bit like Ultras I guess... hope Sept is a bit cooler! Have a good one.

Thanks for this. Nice to now that someone else went through that. My first Ultra. It was my family and friends with the megaphone at the top of Orrest Head. They had a great day following me around the course. I think I was within half an hour of you pretty much all day. Had a Lazarus recovery once darkness fell, Neeby Bridge onwards, Coca Cola - who knew?!? I got some Dire Straits playing in the dark to vibe me home. Signed up for next May!

Hey Ian. I think we were together briefly in the last few k. I was chatting to someone playing Dire Straits. I think I even found the energy to sing along! Good on your family on the megaphone. That was awesome!

Yes, that was me on the horrible descent down to the YMCA. Couldn’t get my headphones to synch. You were lucky you missed the Rocky soundtrack, Ski Sunday and Club Tropicana! I was doing everything to try and distract my head speak. Hopefully catch you on the Lap in the future. Signed up for next May.

Cracking video, that looked proper hard work. I was booked on this but injured myself 5 weeks out so had to defer. I may have dodged a bullet with the heat - I was in Ambleside on the day cheering runners through so felt it. How did Speedy Gonzales do? I'm disappointed that I can't remember his name from the tapering videos! You two are like the Morecambe and Wise of ultra running youtube 🤣
