Everyone talking about the crowd being disrespectful but that was how hip hop battling was back in the day. Like the Apollo if they weren’t feeling you got bood! Getcho charmin asses outta hea! Peace and luv to both deejays!
So the best part of the 1992 battle came after this, when the (undeserving) winner of the 1991 battle, DJ Supreme, came out and challenged Mike to a post-battle battle for true supremacy, declaring that he'd prove himself a true Superman by defeating the new Superman. Mike dominated him so badly that before the battle was even over, Supreme turned off his turntable and walked head down, shoulders slumped, Charlie Brown style, offstage. I have that somewhere on a VHS tape and if I find it I'll convert it and share it on RUclips.
When I was 18, I went to a friends HS graduation party in Sacramento and when I walked in....guess who was doing a friend's favor and DJing the party. Mixmaster!
ok now i just had to watch this again. the winner was mike hands down. the crowd wasn't disrespectful they were just callin it like it was. you had to be hard back then. wasn't none of this mailin in a pre recorded set, this shxz was live. and they weren't a bunch of crybabies worried about hurting someones feelings, we were brought up better than that. if you didn't win, you sucked it up, moved on, PRACTICED, and tried harder the NEXT TIME. so cry me a river. you bunch of soft as puxxies
@@XX-121 so true.If your skills and sets were weak, the crowd gave you the boot.Go home practice, and come back.Nuff said.Thats how the best dj's are still holding it down today.
Awww maannn...I heard about this as a youth back then...they did not really let Honda rock! He was doin' some shit, too...MMM jus' had the crowd that day; and killed it!!!
mike was ahead of his time......I'm not saying he was abducted by aliens and given these "out of this world" skills (for 92) but I'm not saying he wasn't.
Rough crowd. MMM is one of my favorite DJs of all time and was a big influence on me getting my first turntables and mixer back in 01. That being said, respect to Dj Honda who is also great DJ with skill on the decks and producing. Honda did his thing to get where he came from, this was just MMMs night and he came with the dopeness as usual.
Id like to say Honda lost his edge when they booed him but Mike'd arsenal vs Honda's? Sorry, Honda lost the war before it even began. His only win here was the opportunity and privilege of sharing the stage with Mike. Thanks for sharing this with us Rob.
Aw yeaaaaa....What up DJ Mixmaster Mike, your the man bro!!.... Wicked Respex, Big Upz, & Mad Love to all the devoted, dedicated, & passionate DJ's worldwide......🔥💯👍💪🙏🎶🌎
Mike is ridiculous and built for battles this this. He brought it all. Honda was kinda getting down that second round and didn't deserve to that from the crowd. Both go down as legends!
Honda, who crossed the sea and got into the enemy territory, has the soul of a samurai. Mike, who understands the show and is familiar with how to charm, won, but technically Honda surpasses Mike. I respect both of them.
Honda was technically hitting every beat with no mistakes and came with it as a better dj. Look at mix master mike, it sounds good overall but Honda could do those gimmicks and more.
Mike straight clowning on that beatbox scratch! lol The reason he wins is because the crowd is hard core DJ fans. The shit Honda was doing had already been done thats why he got booed. Now Mike always keep you in suspense . You never know what the fuck he going to do next
That’s when DJs use records and did real mixes now everything is software and all you gotta do is hit the sync button and and you got a mix and throw in some effects.
Fact: Everyone in this battle got booed except MMM. Same for Doctor Dre as host. The crowd was just fuckin with MMM more than everyone else and he could do no wrong.
Mixmaster Mike is a showman, he won because he knows how to get a reaction from the crowd. Everything he did was easy even for 1992, he’s just larger than life on stage and that’s what people want to see. On a technical level Honda spanked him all over that stage
if mike clearlywon round 1 but honda came back in 2.... ppl booing keeps you from hearing how clean the cuts are... ppl went nuts when mike was mixing n towing tith his hat etc taunting honda... that gave mike props but it suppose to be about the cuts n blends.
as always, yes, it is a given with mix master mike, undisputably one of the gods...and high shaolin priest of the 36 chambers...always gets about a thousand bow downs ,9even on two bloody stumps dipped in battery acid and shrapnel!).... BUT I HAVE TO SAY... AND IN SOME SEMBLANCE OF A DOOSHEY "OPINION" OR "PERSPECTIVE" OR WHAT EVER YOU WANT TO SAY,(AND LIKE YOU CARE ANYWAY!), THAT IN WATCHING THIS... I FORGOTTEN HOW MUCH AND JUST AS MUCH ,,,,"ONE OF THE GODS" ALSO WAS DJ. HONDA!..AND I HAVE TO GO FURTHER WITH SAYING ..THAT I THOUGHT ,(AND PRETTY STRONGLY SO!)..ESPECIALLY WITHIN THE FIRST ROUND...THAT HONDA HAD HIM! AND HAD HIM QUITE SOUNDLY!..He was much tighter and precise!.. better flow and continuity...and was more refined in approach and technique!...sorry but in looking and listening,(and listening mannnnyyyy times), honda's ..."style".....was better...sir mike...even though mmm's is also a sick style...it got loose and sloppy at times...in both rounds!..honda had this, undisputably had this hands down..
i think this battle had same athmosphere with ice cube story about early days of nwa when they palying at the club with bunch of gangbangers as an audience and you better be good or else
zero, and I mean zero disrespects to MMM, but Honda def ended up having better beats and records in the future. I mean ISP wasn’t known for their albums to be fair. MMM and Qbert were and is still some of the most unconventional and skill turntablists to ever put their hands on wax.

Sure man, go ahead and try to find that hidden gem for sharing it with all the folks here!
upload that shit my g i subbed to u
Pavlos G check my channel. I uploaded it awhile back.
Gregory Gioia can you re upload??
i dotn think supremem wants you to find it lol.
Incredible footage, and from a different perspective. Insane energy.
Big ups Dj Honda!!
One of Mike's finest battle performance.
When I was 18, I went to a friends HS graduation party in Sacramento and when I walked in....guess who was doing a friend's favor and DJing the party. Mixmaster!
Crowd is super disrespectful. Honda is amazing. Salute.
no variety in that first set tho... used same sample the whole time.
@@XX-121So did Mike on the 2nd time but that don't count, it's what u do & he ripped it. Crowd was pro usa.

Mix Master Mike is a beast on the wheels of steel, a true one-off in his style.
Awww maannn...I heard about this as a youth back then...they did not really let Honda rock! He was doin' some shit, too...MMM jus' had the crowd that day; and killed it!!!
Thanks for the upload Rob, Honda was great but Mike is the clear winner here, an absolutley formidable DJ.
Honda is a great DJ who's paid his dues. It just was not his day, and I doubt he realized how unorthodox Mike would be.
I 've never expected to see this battle from that angle, lol.Post more Rob.
mike was ahead of his time......I'm not saying he was abducted by aliens and given these "out of this world" skills (for 92) but I'm not saying he wasn't.
he wasn't abducted, he asked for a ride :)

Maaaan I forgot about this. First time I ever saw Mike. Blew my fucking mind
Charisma is a huge factor here, Mike wins on all fronts pretty much. I liked Honda though.
Id like to say Honda lost his edge when they booed him but Mike'd arsenal vs Honda's? Sorry, Honda lost the war before it even began. His only win here was the opportunity and privilege of sharing the stage with Mike. Thanks for sharing this with us Rob.
And it didn't hurt that one of the three judges was Mike's best friend and bandmate, DJ Q-Bert...
Drop The Bass - 2023 top of my playlist still.

Damn, Mix Master Mike kills it
Good work Honda!
Mike is ridiculous and built for battles this this. He brought it all. Honda was kinda getting down that second round and didn't deserve to that from the crowd. Both go down as legends!
scratching beat boxer sound when normally beat boxers imitate scratching… Very creative!
Remember on the _Scratch_ flick, when Mike said that he called down a UFO one night by practicing new scratches in his house!
4:20 you can see dude face scoping who booing at his boy Honda to check em later, crowd hella disrespectful
Man these things looked pretty good
Wow...I heard about this back then.
Very Nice Video.
日本の誇り
Like it was yesterday! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Damn Honda didn't get any love.
I think it makes Honda that much better that he went on with all that booing
Mixmasters Mike the king 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👍
Now thats cool, Mixmaster Mike is the man, That DJ Honda was mad good also....
Dammit Rob ! You had this in your vault and are just now uploading this epicness !?!? Hahahaha
Hi everybody!!! What is the first theme that use Mixmaster Mike?
Thank you for your replies!!
Culture Vultures!
honda is dope, respect! it was just MMM night🤷🏽♂️ he had the crowd and just rocked it and the sound was raw. Both Dj’s are great!!!👍🏽✌🏽
what was the first song mike was juggling?
T la rock n fat boys (maybe ?)
Now I see why Honda went onto produce records with mos def. cuz memories don’t live like people do
Is it that Mike? From the Beasties?
Frittrich Im stupid of course he is. Theres only one Mix master
Frittrich Actually there's 2. Mix Master Ice is the original.
Frittrich In this era, from the Invisibl Skratch Piklz.
Honda beat genius
Honda, who crossed the sea and got into the enemy territory, has the soul of a samurai. Mike, who understands the show and is familiar with how to charm, won, but technically Honda surpasses Mike. I respect both of them.
Tough crowd lol!
Back when peeps knew what they were listening to.
Can’t fool the heads.
Honda 2nd set was tight as hell, how the hell did he keep it together with all that booing😳
Mike was different level tho, good battle
Mix Masta Mike vs Rock Raida??....... UNBELEIVABLE!
great piece.mike killed it but honda was dope to.i felt bad about booing him but i got you rob what you wrote below about how it was back then
Rob you should rename these videos "Retro Battle Reviews" with a good extensive review on it like you did with Aladdins.
track id's?
Before I looked i said to myself this takes place in NY 100% lol...Mean ass crowd but i love my PPL
#DJNYiRe
Honda was technically hitting every beat with no mistakes and came with it as a better dj. Look at mix master mike, it sounds good overall but Honda could do those gimmicks and more.
Hadn't seen this one before - MMM just had better style all around in this. Honda's routines sounded frenetic in comparison.
Reppin' Nor Calllll!!!!
Mike was the hometown fav and Honda wasn't that established in the states yet . I am guessing that's why they was hating.
Mike straight clowning on that beatbox scratch! lol The reason he wins is because the crowd is hard core DJ fans. The shit Honda was doing had already been done thats why he got booed. Now Mike always keep you in suspense . You never know what the fuck he going to do next

dj honda 💿👦
Pitching beat down from HONDA tha real turntablisting in da mix!!! BeastyMIKE Hit Beat - Ha-Hit_ ha-Hit Beat///Ha-Ha-HI-HI-Hi-Hit Beat!
MMM superior💪👍
Mike Stick Em set…suffering before cats started sticking labels on the records to create quick cue points.
Fact: Everyone in this battle got booed except MMM. Same for Doctor Dre as host. The crowd was just fuckin with MMM more than everyone else and he could do no wrong.
why thry boo the man tho, ion get it dude was ight

Honda sounded like Steve Dee to me in this battle. Mike should have one of off originality alone
Эпично разделал
hah MMM scratchin beats that are beatboxers. that's badass.
Beat juggling not as fun as cutting beats. Hondas skills amazing. MMM was better but Honda was doing some crazy technical shit.
if mike clearlywon round 1 but honda came back in 2.... ppl booing keeps you from hearing how clean the cuts are... ppl went nuts when mike was mixing n towing tith his hat etc taunting honda... that gave mike props but it suppose to be about the cuts n blends.
Hondas Juggles was tighter MMM I think Won from the overall Scratches he displayed & it don't hurt Qbert was on the panel either
♥
pinoy pride
biased crowd

Mix Master Mike Later became The Official DJ for the Beastie Boys.. I Think He Still Continues on DJ-ing for The Beastie Boys and Cypress Hill.
i think this battle had same athmosphere with ice cube story about early days of nwa when they palying at the club with bunch of gangbangers as an audience and you better be good or else
honda won in my books
Hardcore battle for Honda 🤭
Honda didn’t have a chance. Mike is top 5 IMO ez.Honda was just more about breakin records for artists is what I got from his tapes
zero, and I mean zero disrespects to MMM, but Honda def ended up having better beats and records in the future. I mean ISP wasn’t known for their albums to be fair.
MMM and Qbert were and is still some of the most unconventional and skill turntablists to ever put their hands on wax.
el diablo
honda
mike fucking killed it.
no crowd control and you lose
Honda was better IMO.
Nope...
I guess Mike won? 🤣
3:17 i remember loving that shit as a kid then realized how fucking lame it was.
Honda won
mix master mike schools some asian kid off the street
Mike is half Asian (Filipino mom).
so? he still schooled that little asian kid they pulled off the street
Honda makes better beats.
Tokyo was booboo....
mike is not that good...i dont like his style ... pretty weak
BARISH BEATS can you do better?
Honda won.
