Two things to point out. 1. Although the canon Shiek is just Zelda in a costume, in the Ocarina of Time Manga, Impa casts a Sheikah magic spell to physically transform Zelda into a male body. That little bit added to the confusion. 2. I took a cursory glance at this channel's videos and did not see anything specifically referencing the fact that the Skyward Sword theme, "Ballad of the Goddess" is actually just the core notes of "Zelda's Lullaby" played backwards. That would be a fun video to make.

The first three notes of Midna's theme (not Midna's Lament, though the two are related and the notes occur there too) can be found in the background of the original Dark World theme from A Link to the Past. At about 15 seconds in, there's a three-note phrase, quieter than the main melody, that seems identical to the first three melody notes of her leitmotif. Given the obvious thematic connections between the Twilight and the Dark World, I'm sure it's deliberate.
100%, I heard this about midway through last year and wrote a script for that video. It came about because the start or A button sound in a lot of games (including BOTW and TOTK) is the same. And this being such an essential Zelda game and such a cool find that the internet literally has nothing covering it, I felt it deserved a high quality video to spotlight it. Thanks for watching!
So glad you're back! Nice humor, visual editing and interesting facts once again! The fact about Hyrule Field combining Zelda 1 AND 2, amazing!!! Koji Kondo really is a boss. I miss the 90's / early 2000s video game discussions. 😂Debating about Sheik/Zelda and playing as Luigi in Super Mario 64.
I like the insight you provided for Sheik's Theme along with other aspects of this series! I'm a good Zelda fan, yet even I learned something from this!
Ahhh I haven’t even watched the video yet but I’ve been checking your channel obsessively to see if you’ve posted yet. So glad you’re back! Your videos are amazing!
Omg that is the first video I watch from your channel, and i wanna say: it DEFINITELY won't be the last too. That. THAT was pure content and education. +1 sub from me dude, keep going i want more
Awesome content!! Being a musician myself, it's cool to see a channel dedicated to the music of my favorite game series! Keep up the good work and keep those videos coming!!
This tickled my music nerd and Zelda nerd fancies so hard. I didn't realize so many other people loved this music this deeply or were so inspired like I was. As a very young child I became obsessed with this music! Brilliant video. Loved every second.
I saw the Hyrule Field references covered in detail on the Legendary Adventures podcast! Might be neat to look at his video and see what you think, because they admit they were struggling at a few points. IIRC they were referencing some kinda forgotten source with no audio/visual coverage. You definitely have the musical know-how to explain it better, but I can't recommend that little channel enough. Its peak cozy Zelda pleasantness.
Sooo cool how you dissected this and showed us all things that we all love and might not have been able to see if any of us are not so musically inclined as the next… this was awesome!!! Things I thought I could hear but wasn’t sure if it was just me or actually made this way. Thanks for this!!!! Love the content!!!
i am SO happy to finally find the zelda music nerd analysis channel, took my algorithm long enough! i'm deeply interested in figuring out how the change in composers impacts the series going forward and what they decide to do with the music! botw's musical references were so subtle, and i love this fresh look at a game musically dear to my heart. thank you!
I haven’t heard any comments so far until this one- I wonder if most people watch on their phone without headphones. I enjoyed splitting into left and right ear to really amplify the differences.
I love your channel, dude. The way you explain things is great and now with those visual edits. Wow! I don´t know jack about music theory and all so this is amazing. By the way I think there's a hint of Zelda's Lullaby in Win Waker's Opening Theme and Credits. WW's music is amazing. Would love to see you talk about it.
Umm... dude. I noticed. Didn't need the music either, the clues are there. Impa, a sheikah, Took Zelda. Sheik is dressed like a sheikah. Sheik is BLONDE. The ONLY BLONDES in OoT are Link and Zelda.(everyone else has black, brown, red, or Green-ish hair... or white/gray.) I was 10, and i figured it out in minutes. It wasnt a twist at all. It Was GLARINGLY OBVIOUS.
Hey there! Thanks for watching- my point was not that no one figured out Sheik was Zelda. Everyone figured that out. My point was in a game so incredibly highly acclaimed such as Zelda OoT it's insane to me that 27 years later no one noticed that Koji Kondo snuck in an endgame spoiler to the music. Absolutely insane and criminally under appreciated. You can go google it, it's like no one on the internet knows.
Honestly I always noticed that the c buttons form the triforce. I just never knew for sure if it was officially intended. And as for the musical references I noticed most of them as a kid and that's why OOT will forever be one of the best games ever (in my personal opinion).
I've played this game so much in my childhood that I actually realized that Zelda's lullaby bit in Sheik's theme before the reveal, and the Sun song part as well. Before I would play but never finish the game, I would mostly reset everything for whatever reason but I remember connecting that more with Impa since to me both were protecting Zelda, but I didn't give much thought to it back then so the plot twist still was mind-blowing to me when I got there.
Love this video, great job man! While I might not be a fan of 60FPS footage of OOT, I can let it slide for learning something about my favourite game after decades of playing it.
@@ZeldaMusicTheory I'm probably in the minority, but to me it looks worse in the same way that the Hobbit movies looked like a TV show compared to TLOTR, because they were shot in 60fps
@@ZeldaMusicTheoryI think the 60FPS mod has become crazy popular, and I get why, especially with modern hardware making games running at 24FPS or less feel like a mistake, but I have two good reasons for preferring the older footage: I have nostalgia for the feel of the original, and seeing it move in 60FPS is like seeing the best black and white film coloured in, it's a little uncanny valley. I preface this second point with 'YOU HAD NO WAY OF KNOWING, IT'S ALL GOOD MY MAN' but I have a rare form of epilepsy and for whatever reason, games running above 30FPS give me motion sickness if I play/watch footage of them for too long, and this mod, combined with Timesplitters 2, sets it off big time. I know some creators get a little tense when they read something like this, but trust me you had no way of knowing, and I would prefer for you to keep the channel on course, exactly as you intend it, because at the end of the day, if you're not wholly satisfied, it WILL come through. Again though, thank you for this entire channel and the work you put in, I'm learning about decades old games that I thought I knew inside and out, and that's super fucking cool to me!
Hahaha sorry for number two, and I’m glad I can share some cool stuff with you! I hope there is a solution like watching RUclips with a different setting to help. My only concern is that the newer versions are not Nintendo sanctioned, and I don’t play Roms for that reason. Even if I own the game. And I’m one of those guys who still buys every remake and plays on Nintendo Online (when I play which is very rare these days lol). Hopefully you are able to keep watching my channel 👍🏼😁 Either way I try to make the audio as good as possible so even if someone didn’t watch they would still get a great experience. Thats the goal anyway.
I have seen the big icebergs of zelda ocarina of time, I have played this game so many times, seen so many secrets, seen the speedrun glitches, and STILL after so many years you still could impress me with new content about the game. I am impress
Often, when tired or stressed, I'll let out three little yawns that match the first three notes of Sheik's theme. Then I start humming the rest. It always relaxes me. Now I learn the iconic Zelda's Lullaby is hidden in there. My favourite Zelda tune just got more favouriter.
Well this was unexpected! I thought you quit making videos. It's been like 6 months! Lol! And wow that's insane that Zelda's theme is hidden within Shiek's theme.
Oh wow. I learned so much from this video. Koji Kondo really is amazing with what he can do with music (also Manama Kataoka). I noticed the sheikhs references, but not Zelda’s lullaby in sheiks theme. So cool
This is fantastic, emotional and VERY well thought out and researched. Thank you so much for doing this. The way Zelda music as a whole (Player since LttP, here!) has made an impact on me and my siblings is astounding and this video just opens up the appreciation even more! You got yourself a new subscriber! Please Keep up the amazing work! Love it!! 🥰🤩
Nice finds! I was surprised by the mix of 1 and 2 in ocarina :) Also, in Breath of the Wild, the suspension theme from opening a big chest plays when you unlock map towers (right before the drop hits your sheikah slate). It is just so highly pitched that you almost only get the hammering of the keys - reaaaally subtle
DUDE! Thank you so much for this! I have been trying to find Zelda's Lullaby in Shiek's theme for years. I knew it had to be in there somewhere, but I was too dumb to hear it.
I was literally just talking about your channel yesterday, and how i hadnt seen a video in a while. Color me surprised tk see a new upload a day after the fact
So glad you're back! And I haven't noticed as well. Consider my mind blown, which doesn't happen often. Deep down though, Sheik's Theme always seemed... familiar.
I absolutely love Zelda music. I am so glad that you are doing videos like this. It blows my mind when people find hidden things like this in music. Keep it up!
Fantastic video as usual! Blows my mind how deep the references and hints in the music go, I love learning this stuff about my favourite games. Also that Forest Temple theme remix is sick!
Zelda music, especially ALTTP, OOT, and MM makes my heart literally skip a beat so it's amazing and beautiful to see somebody dedicate this much attention and love for one of my most longest lasting and my personal most important and loved aspects of Zelda. A lot of Zelda lovers I've admitted my eternal adoration and deep emotional connection with regarding the music of Zelda have looked at me like I'm bleeding from my eyes and teeth. Some people just don't get that connection but we do! Oh, and subbed
What a wonderful explanation! Well done! There is far more to The Triforce than most understand, as it truly is The Master Key to this reality we inhabit. Namely, it represents the fundamental constituents of reality itself. A notion which appears in all of the worlds deep cultural traditions. I would not be surprised in the least if the musical scales in the game map directly to the core operations of the Triforce. Operations in both the lore of the game, as well as reality at large. Remember, you are playing real and actual notes on a musical instrument. This is important. Keep in mind this 3 in 1 aspect is found the world over. Only expressed differently according to each respective culture and language. I did an initial investigation/series of videos on this topic and it completely melted my brain at the time.
I am floored by the ALtTP opening being referenced in the Triforce's creation scene from OoT. Granted, I haven't played it in ages, still it's such a cool fact to learn. Amazing work!
I sometimes wonder if there are other people that appreciate video game music like I do, and then I find a video like this and it makes me glad to know that I’m not the only one. Thank you for this, I actually learned something new too. The “press start” sound in Ocarina of Time being from link to the past. It’s so subtle, I would’ve never noticed. Because the sound effect from link to the past is in Ocarina of Time, but it’s hidden behind the main part of that “press start” sound
What’s funny is I recorded “I can’t find this one, someone help me in the comments…” and then while editing I was looking for ALTTP footage and stumbled upon the sound. And it’s in the same key! I freaked out. No idea if anyone else knows.
Great presentation. I remember geeking out to every single “tribute” to all the other songs before. My best friend made fun of it but was wowed when “rediscovered.” lol
Zelda music is one of the few osts that make me tear up. When you mentioned Fis theme, omg that one gets me every time. When we heard it in TotK, I bawled. 😂

Also being my first video back I wanted it to do well, I’ve learned more about RUclips during my 8 month break. And this being such an essential Zelda game and such a cool find that the internet literally has nothing covering it, I felt it deserved a high quality video to spotlight it.
Thanks for watching!
Very well done presentation, glad to have you back
Welcome back Kevin, mind blowing as always!
😆
Happy to finally see you back making content!!!! Awesome way to male a return. Looking forward to more of your videos!!
I like the insight you provided for Sheik's Theme along with other aspects of this series! I'm a good Zelda fan, yet even I learned something from this!
Great to see you back man! Absolutely wonderful editing! Keep it up, thanks!
I had noticed most of these music references hidden in other themes, but some of them I didn't know and they blew my mind. Subscribed!
You should create Metroid Music Theory, Donkey Kong, and obviously Super Mario Music Channels as well!
Hahaha if I had time I would do a LOT more
Ahhh I haven’t even watched the video yet but I’ve been checking your channel obsessively to see if you’ve posted yet. So glad you’re back! Your videos are amazing!
Omg that is the first video I watch from your channel, and i wanna say: it DEFINITELY won't be the last too. That. THAT was pure content and education. +1 sub from me dude, keep going i want more
Hahaha I make these videos for people like you and me 😁
Jeez, this is my new favorite channel!!
Awesome content!! Being a musician myself, it's cool to see a channel dedicated to the music of my favorite game series! Keep up the good work and keep those videos coming!!
Welcome back! You were my favorite discovery of 2023 and I am ready to see your channel grow even more with the high quality content you provide :)
I love how enthusiastic you are about things like this. Love your presentation!
Welcome back! Hope you are doing well, I wish you a good week :D
This video might just be my favorite video of the last five years. That was incredible.
i am SO happy to finally find the zelda music nerd analysis channel, took my algorithm long enough! i'm deeply interested in figuring out how the change in composers impacts the series going forward and what they decide to do with the music! botw's musical references were so subtle, and i love this fresh look at a game musically dear to my heart. thank you!
Nice! I like how you overlay audio from both games to show the comparison. 💪
I haven’t heard any comments so far until this one- I wonder if most people watch on their phone without headphones. I enjoyed splitting into left and right ear to really amplify the differences.
The Link to the Past intro/Godess cutscene link just blew my mind!!
😅😮😮😅😅😅
I love your channel, dude. The way you explain things is great and now with those visual edits. Wow! I don´t know jack about music theory and all so this is amazing. By the way I think there's a hint of Zelda's Lullaby in Win Waker's Opening Theme and Credits. WW's music is amazing. Would love to see you talk about it.
Most of these musical connections are noticed in the back of my mind, and when pointed out, give me the 'so THAT'S why I recognise it'
Umm... dude. I noticed. Didn't need the music either, the clues are there.
Impa, a sheikah, Took Zelda.
Sheik is dressed like a sheikah.
Sheik is BLONDE. The ONLY BLONDES in OoT are Link and Zelda.(everyone else has black, brown, red, or Green-ish hair... or white/gray.)
I was 10, and i figured it out in minutes.
Yeah, people shouldn't shy away from the true nature of what OoT looked like and increasing the framerate just makes it look less cinematic really
Hahaha wow I’m surprised by this opinion, I think it looks WAY better… but I’ll keep it in mind.
@@ZeldaMusicTheory I'm probably in the minority, but to me it looks worse in the same way that the Hobbit movies looked like a TV show compared to TLOTR, because they were shot in 60fps
@@ZeldaMusicTheoryI think the 60FPS mod has become crazy popular, and I get why, especially with modern hardware making games running at 24FPS or less feel like a mistake, but I have two good reasons for preferring the older footage:
I have nostalgia for the feel of the original, and seeing it move in 60FPS is like seeing the best black and white film coloured in, it's a little uncanny valley.
Thank you, Kevin, for what you do. Amazing video. Im very glad you have returned to the youtube scene.
That's a great video man. Congratulations, i'm very glad that i encoutered your channel. Thanks to you 4 bringing excelent content to the world.
good to see you back again. great video!
I have seen the big icebergs of zelda ocarina of time, I have played this game so many times, seen so many secrets, seen the speedrun glitches, and STILL after so many years you still could impress me with new content about the game. I am impress
Welcome back Kevin! Yeah you bet I read that music theory note
Fantastic video, Kevin. I love this kind of stuff. So glad you are back!
Whoa that was a very insightful video, thanks for making it
Often, when tired or stressed, I'll let out three little yawns that match the first three notes of Sheik's theme.
So cool
I have no idea how you made this so emotional but I love it.
Love it!! 🥰🤩
I'm the same way, that's why I started the channel. Thanks for the kind words!
Glad to have you back!
HEEEESSS BACKKKKK!!!!!!!!
This was great! Thanks! Happy for a new video from you!
You should talk about me again, maybe another video will post 😅 although this one took me probably 60 hours, so I doubt it
So glad you're back!
Keep it up!
Thanks so much! You are the exact type of person I do this channel for.
Welcome back man, love your content
Fantastic video as usual! Blows my mind how deep the references and hints in the music go, I love learning this stuff about my favourite games. Also that Forest Temple theme remix is sick!
I know isn’t that remix so amazing?? Jokabi and Gamechops. I meant to put a shoutout. I’ll add one to the description.
That was an amazing analysis!
Hahaha found another like myself 😄
Killer commentary. Excited to hear what else I missed.
Absolutely beautiful video. I actually can't believe I never pieced this together!
I love that Easter egg! There are so many little knots to previous games, it makes it so much fun years later discovering them.
Thank you so much! I love Zelda and learning about music ❤ glad to see it's been formative and inspired others!
Such a great video!! Love all your content!
Zelda music is one of the few osts that make me tear up. When you mentioned Fis theme, omg that one gets me every time. When we heard it in TotK, I bawled. 😂
You know that a song is truly something special when you can take it reverse the Notes and make a whole new great song.
Zelda’s lullaby/Goddess ballad.
This is the first time i subscribe and then tell the person that i did.
My dude, nostalgia is the one thing that brings tears to my eyes. And zelda musuc is definitely a good way to pluck that nostalgia string...... You def got me. Ill ve listening to all your videos for weeks now. 🎉🎉🎉🎉 Congrats on your amazing channel!
Hahaha thanks so much man! It’s been an awesome journey, very blessed. Always encouraging hearing from viewers😃
I wouldn't of known none of this if it wasn't 4 u an this video great stuff dawg, subscribed an lookin out 4 more
Amazing discover. Glad you're back
Great video, homes. This is why I like Nintendo games: there is so much detail and passion in everything that they make.
