I am one of the Medical Professionals you speak of.... and we have removed direct pressure as a form of first line treatment for hemorrhagic bleeding... all EMS in the United States now go directly to a tourniquet and they have been using this technique in Iraq and Afghanistan for a long time... and it has saved countless lives and further injury... So do not lecture me.
I'm a special with the Met and during the ELS training we were taught NEVER to apply a tourniquet, only firearms officers may do this as they are given more advanced life support training due the nature of their job.

Do use a tourniquet if you ever end up in the same situation.... Otherwise you won't have to worry about any "problems" later.

remember, england is a lot smaller than those countries and crews can get there within 5 mins
